Bad Company and Soundgarden among 2025 Rock Hall inductees

Bad Company and Soundgarden are among the artists that will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame later this year.

The rockers will be honored alongside Joe Cocker, The White Stripes, Chubby Checker, Cindi Lauper and Outkast at the 2025 Induction event on Saturday, November 8 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, CA.

The honorees were announced live Sunday evening by American Idol host Ryan Seacrest.

To be eligible for induction, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.

Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Bad Company, and Outkast are first-time nominees, whereas Cyndi Lauper, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes have all been nominated before.

“Each of these inductees created their own sound and attitude that had a profound impact on culture and helped to change the course of Rock & Roll forever,” said John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. “Their music gave a voice to generations and influenced countless artists that followed in their footsteps.”

Warren Zevon and Salt-N-Pepa are being recognized with the Musical Influence Award; Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins and Carol Kaye will be honored in the Musical Excellence Award; and music executive Lenny Waronker will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

Ticket information for the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be announced at a later date.

The event will once again stream live on Disney+, with a special airing on ABC at a later date and available on Hulu the next day.

Bad Company and Soundgarden among 2025 Rock Hall nominees

Bad Company and Soundgarden are among the nominees for induction into the 2025 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

The Cleveland-based institution has revealed the full list of artists, which also includes Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, The Black Crowes, Oasis, and The White Stripes, among others.

To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.

Among this year’s nominees, eight are appearing on the ballot for the first time: Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Maná, Outkast, and Phish.

“These remarkable Nominees have each created their own musical style and attitude, impacting generations of music lovers and contributing to the ever-evolving sounds and continued growth of rock & roll”, says John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.

Nominee ballots will be distributed to an international voting panel composed of over 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals. The selection criteria include an artist’s impact on music culture, influence on other musicians that have followed, as well as the scope and longevity of their career and body of work.

The 2025 Performer Inductees will be revealed in late April, along with those Inductees entering the Hall under three special committee categories: Musical Influence, Musical Excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award.

This year’s Induction Ceremony will take place in Los Angeles in the Fall, with exact dates and ticket sale details following soon.

Former Bad Company singer Brian Howe dead at 66

Former Bad Company singer Brian Howe died Wednesday (May 6) from cardiac arrest at his home in Lake Placid, FL at the age of 66.

"It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of a loving father, friend and musical icon, Brian Howe,” said longtime friend and manager Paul Easton.

“Finding the appropriate words to express the pain in our hearts over losing my brother has been difficult," stated his sister Sandie. “Our family would like to thank you for your compassion and the outpouring of love we are receiving.”

Born in Portsmouth, England in 1953, Howe played a with a number of bands before teaming up with Ted Nugent for the guitarist’s 1984 album, “Penetrator”, and subsequent live shows.

Howe joined a newly-reformed Bad Company in 1986 for their “Fame And Fortune” album in place of the unavailable Paul Rodgers, and appeared on three more records – 1988’s “Dangerous Age”, 1990’s US platinum release, “Holy Water”, and 1992’s “Here Comes Trouble” – before leaving for a solo career in 1994.

Over the next two decades, the singer issued three albums and a 2017 single, “Hot Tin Roof”, which won the Hollywood Music in Media Awards honor for Best Rock Song of the Year.

Prior to his death, Howe was on tour with his solo band before the live music industry shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Howe is survived by his sister Sandie and her husband, his son Michael and daughters Victoria and Ella, along with three grandchildren: Kira, Alexandria and Aurora.

Bad Company to release Swan Song Years 1974-1982 box set

Bad Company will release a new box set, “The Swan Song Years 1974-1982”, on August 2.

The 6CD package includes every studio album the group released on Led Zeppelin’s record label during the era, and delivers newly-remastered versions of 1979’s “Desolation Angels” and 1982’s “Rough Diamonds” that are making their debut as part of this set.

The other albums included in the collection are: “Bad Company” (1974), “Straight Shooter” (1975), “Run With The Pack” (1976) and “Burnin' Sky” (1977).

In 1973, members of three popular bands came together to form Bad Company: singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke of Free; Mick Ralphs of Mott The Hoople, and King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell; that same year, Bad Company was the first band signed to Led Zeppelin's new record label, Swan Song.

The band's 1974 debut, "Bad Company", went to No. 1 in America and was certified 5x platinum on the strength of future-radio staples like "Can't Get Enough," "Rock Steady" and "Movin' On." The multi-platinum streak continued a year later with “Straight Shooter”, which hit 3x platinum with tracks like "Good Lovin' Gone Bad," "Shooting Star" and "Feel Like Makin' Love."

The band notched another platinum record with 1976’s “Run With The Pack”, which includes "Silver, Blue & Gold," a song that has become a fan-favorite even though its never been released as a single. “Burnin' Sky” went gold in 1977 and was followed two years later by the double-platinum “Desolation Angels.”

The end of an era came in 1982 with the release of “Rough Diamonds”; certified gold, it was the last album the band recorded for Swan Song and the final studio album the original quartet ever released.

Bad Company are currently playing dates across the US.

Bad Company announces select fall US dates

Bad Company have announced a series of select fall US dates.

Following a previously-confirmed September 22 appearance at the LA County Fair in Pomona, CA, the band have added five shows to their 2018 schedule.

Led by singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke, the group will play Wente Vinyards in Livermore, CA next month before a pair of October gigs opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd, playing with Cheap Trick and a late December performance in Oklahoma.

Tickets for all shows are on sale and available via the usual outlets.

Bad Company previously toured with Lynyrd Skynyrd this spring following a series of shows on the Rock Legends Cruise, where they played alongside classic rockers like Sammy Hagar, John Kay & Steppenwolf, Todd Rundgren and more.

Rodgers recently wrapped up a North American summer trek with Jeff Beck and Ann Wilson of Heart.

In June, the rocker released "Free Spirit - Celebrating The Music Of Free", a live package that captures the legendary singer in a May 2017 sold-out show at London’s Royal Albert Hall as part of his Free Spirit UK tour, which saw Rodgers performing songs strictly from the band’s catalogue as he celebrated the 50th anniversary of meeting guitarist Paul Kossoff prior to forming the group.

VIDEO: Paul Rodgers rocks All Right Now on Free Spirit live package

Paul Rodgers is streaming video of his performance of “All Right Now” from the new live package, "Free Spirit - Celebrating The Music Of Free."

Due via multiple formats on June 22, the package captures the legendary singer in a May 28, 2017 sold-out show at London’s Royal Albert Hall as part of his Free Spirit UK tour, which saw Rodgers performing songs strictly from the band’s catalogue as he celebrated the 50th anniversary of meeting guitarist Paul Kossoff prior to forming the group.

The 16-song set includes performances of Free classics like "Wishing Well", "Fire And Water" and many deep tracks – some of which were never performed live by the original band, such as "Love You So" and "Catch A Train."

As for “All Right Now”, which became the band’s signature tune in 1970, Rodgers says it’s a song that has aged well – but one he actually went for years without playing.

"When I left Free back in 1972, I didn’t play ‘All Right Now’ until about 1996, when I was touring with Jason Bonham, and we were supporting the tribute record we had done to Muddy Waters,” the rocker tells Billboard. “We got calls from the audience to do the song, and I hadn’t done it in so long. Then, the band started calling for it. So, people were calling for it in front of and behind me. I said ‘Okay. Let’s do it.’ It was so refreshing to play, and it has wound up staying in the set. I am amazed at the song and its longevity.”

"Free Spirit - Celebrating The Music Of Free" is available on CD/DVD, Blu-ray, vinyl, and across digital platforms.

Following last month’s run of US show with Bad Company, Rodgers will team up with Jeff Beck for a North American tour this July, where the pair will be joined by guest Ann Wilson of Heart.

"I hope you feel it too, just lose yourself in the music and let it fuel your soul."

The 2017 UK run made headlines last spring when Robert Plant and AC/DC singer Brian Johnson joined Rodgers in Oxford for a performance of a rock classic, marking a rare return to the concert stage for Johnson, who left AC/DC’s Rock Or Bust tour a year earlier on the advice of doctors due to hearing loss issues.

Rodgers will be bringing the Free Spirit tour to the US this spring, as well as performing with his solo band and a few select dates with Bad Company in the coming months.

Robert Plant and AC/DC singer Brian Johnson joined Paul Rodgers in Oxford, UK Sunday night for a performance of Barrett Strong’s 1959 classic, “Money (That’s What I Want)”, and video from the event has surfaced online.

The three rockers took turns on lead vocals on the tune, with Plant adding some harmonica to the proceedings.

The show at the city’s New Theatre marked the sixth date of Rodgers’ Free Spirit UK tour, which sees the legendary singer performing songs strictly from the Free catalogue as he celebrates the 50th anniversary of meeting guitarist Paul Kossoff prior to forming the band.

Plant has been working with the Sensational Space Shifters on a follow-up to 2014’s “lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar.”

Johnson launched a new 6-part series, “Brian Johnson’s Life On The Road”, on Britain’s Sky Arts last month; among his guests is Plant, who will be the featured interview on the June 2 season finale.

The May 14 concert saw a rare return to the stage for Johnson, who left AC/DC’s Rock Or Bust tour last spring on the advice of doctors due to hearing loss issues. Axl Rose stepped in to assist the Australian rockers for a 14-date spring run across Europe and a ten-show US tour last fall.

Johnson – who has revealed that the initial source of his hearing loss began approximately nine years ago while racing at the Watkins Glen International – has been working with the inventor of in-ear monitors, Asius Technologies founder Stephen Ambrose, to find a technical solution that would allow the singer to safely return to live performances one day.

In the meantime, AC/DC’s future with lone original member Angus Young at the helm remains unknown, as does Johnson or Rose’s possible involvement moving forward.

Bad Company expand classic album reissue series

Bad Company are expanding their classic album reissue series with the May 26 release of 1976’s “Run With The Pack” and 1977’s “Burnin’ Sky.”

Following the 2015 series launch of their first two records – 1974’s self-titled debut and 1975’s “Straight Shooter” – the band are now set to deliver the next two albums in the catalogue as 2CD and 2LP sets.

Both projects will feature a remastered version of the original album as well as a second disc of bonus tracks presenting alternative versions of songs and previously unreleased tracks.

Bad Company’s third release, “Run With The Pack” was recorded in France using The Rolling Stones’ mobile truck in September 1975 with engineer Ron Nevison, and mixed in Los Angeles by Eddie Kramer. The package reached No. 5 on the US Billboard 200 with the help of three singles: the title track, a cover of The Coasters“Young Blood”, and “Honey Child.”

Album number four, “Burnin’ Sky” – which marked its 40th anniversary this week – was also recorded in France and delivered a pair of singles, including the title track and “Everything I Need.” The set peaked at No. 15 on the US Billboard 200.

Last month, Bad Company played the opening night show at The Vine at the new del Lago Resort & Casino in Waterloo, NY. The band appeared as a four-piece as guitarist Mick Ralphs continues to recover from a stroke he suffered at the end of the group’s UK tour last October.

“Mick is receiving excellent medical care and is recovering in hospital, although all his public engagements are necessarily on hold, pending his improvement,” said the group last fall. “Everyone is wishing Mick a speedy recovery, and further news will be announced at the appropriate time.”

VIDEO: Bad Company preview Soundstage premiere

Bad Company are sharing performance footage of “Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy” from the upcoming premiere of their appearance on the acclaimed PBS series Soundstage.

Set to air January 5, the band taped an 11-song set at the Grainger Studio in Chicago, IL for WTTW in May during their 2016 US tour.

The Soundstage appearance delivers Bad Company hits and fan favorites including “Can’t Get Enough,” “Movin’ On,” “Ready For Love” and “Rock Steady.”

Season 19 of the series will also feature performances by Blondie, Kenny Loggins and more; full details are available at the program’s website.

The 2016 US shows with Joe Walsh saw Bad Company bring in former Black Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson to fill in for Mick Ralphs, who wasn’t feeling up to travelling at the time.

Ralphs returned to the lineup for a fall UK tour in October, following which the band revealed that the guitarist had suffered a stroke.

“Mick is receiving excellent medical care and is recovering in hospital, although all his public engagements are necessarily on hold, pending his improvement,” said the group. “Everyone is wishing Mick a speedy recovery, and further news will be announced at the appropriate time.”

Bad Company guitarist Mick Ralphs suffers stroke

Bad Company have revealed that guitarist Mick Ralphs suffered a stroke following the conclusion of the group’s recent UK tour, which wrapped up at London’s 02 Arena on October 29.

“The family and representatives of the band's co-founder, guitarist and songwriter Mick Ralphs are sad to announce that Mick has suffered a stroke,” they revealed. “Mick is receiving excellent medical care and is recovering in hospital, although all his public engagements are necessarily on hold, pending his improvement.

“Everyone is wishing Mick a speedy recovery, and further news will be announced at the appropriate time.”

The UK dates marked Bad Company’s first tour of their home country in four years.

An update on Ralph’s condition was posted on his Facebook page on November 3, saying “Really good news, and it seems a slight improvement. Mick has been moved from the intensive care, to his own room. A huge thanks to Ben Ralphs, who not only is at Mick's bedside, but also running his own business, dealing with Mick's affairs, and keeping us all informed.”

Ralphs sat out the group’s summer US tour with Joe Walsh this year as the band brought in former Black Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson to cover his duties.

“I’ve decided to sit this upcoming US tour out,” explained Ralphs this past spring. “The travel required to do these dates is something I’m just not feeling up for at the moment. I’m glad the band found Rich to take my place for this run, I’m sure he’ll be great. See you all again soon. Much love to Paul and Simon, and love to all our fans for supporting us over the years Thanks.”

Earlier this year, Bad Company released “Live In Concert 1977 & 1979”, a 2CD set featuring two previously unreleased recordings: a 1977 show in Houston, TX and a 1979 performance at The Empire Pool in London (now known as Wembley Arena).

Bad Company are streaming audio of their classic track, “Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy”, as a preview to the forthcoming package, “Live In Concert 1977 & 1979.”

Due April 29, the 2CD set delivers two previously unreleased live recordings: a 1977 show in Houston, TX and a 1979 performance at The Empire Pool in London (now known as Wembley Arena).

The recordings feature the original Bad Company line up of singer Paul Rodgers, guitarist Mick Ralphs, drummer Simon Kirke and bassist Boz Burrell.

The first disc captures the band’s show at the Summit House in Houston while the band was on the road in support of their fourth album, 1977’s “Burnin’ Sky.”

Disc two delivers a spring 1979 live date in London, UK, recorded just a week before the release of Bad Company’s fifth record, “Desolation Angels.”

The live package is being issued in sync with the group's co-headlining US tour with Joe Walsh, which begins in Dallas, TX on May 12.

Bad Company have hired former Black Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson to sit in for the absent Mick Ralphs on the tour.

Bad Company hires Black Crowes guitarist for US tour

Bad Company have hired former Black Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson to sit in for the absent Mick Ralphs on their upcoming US summer tour with Joe Walsh.

“I’ve decided to sit this upcoming US tour out,” explains Ralphs. “The travel required to do these dates is something I’m just not feeling up for at the moment. I’m glad the band found Rich to take my place for this run, I’m sure he’ll be great. See you all again soon. Much love to Paul and Simon, and love to all our fans for supporting us over the years Thanks.”

“I'm excited to be joining Bad Company as their special guest on tour this summer,” adds Robinson. “One of my favorite bands growing up was Free. I've been a big fan of Paul Rodgers and his work throughout his career - from Bad Company and beyond - and Simon Kirke is one of my all time favorite drummers. To be able to play with Paul and Simon is such an honor. I'm really looking forward to it. See you out there!”

The Bad Company / Joe Walsh dates for the “One Hell Of A Night” tour will begin in Dallas, TX on May 12.

The 2-month trek will see the co-headliners rotate the headlining spot at each show.

On April 29, Bad Company will release a pair of classic 1970s-era concerts: the 2CD “Live In Concert 1977 & 1979” delivers two previously unreleased live recordings: a 1977 show in Houston, TX and a 1979 performance at The Empire Pool in London (now known as Wembley Arena).

In January of 2015, Robinson announced the end of The Black Crowes after 24 years as a band.

The guitarist will release a new album, “Flux”, in June.

Set to begin in Dallas, TX on May 12, the trek will see the co-headliners rotate the headlining spot at each show.

"I had always hoped that we would do something together and so here we are 30 years later finally touring together,” says Bad Company lead singer Paul Rodgers. “It has taken us this long so I wouldn't miss this. Unless you want to wait 30 more years for our next tour in 2046!!! There is only one Joe Walsh, he is such a unique person and an uber talented singer, songwriter and musician."

“I have a huge amount of respect for Paul of course and the band and we get along great,” adds Walsh. “Paul and I agreed it would be a hell of an evening of music, one that will be memorable for everyone who comes, and memorable for us, and that’s important in this day and age.”

Pre-sale tickets in select markets for American Express or Citi cardmembers – and fan club members – begins March 8 at 10 a.m. local time; special VIP ticket packages that include a meet-and-greet will also be available.

General public seats will go on sale either March 11 or 12, depending on venue, primarily at 10 a.m. local time.

Specific ticket information — such as exact on-sale dates and times, and which pre-sale offer is available in which city — is available at joewalsh.com

On April 29, Bad Company will release a pair of classic 1970s-era concerts via the 2CD set “Live In Concert 1977 & 1979.” The project delivers two previously unreleased live recordings: a 1977 show in Houston, TX and a 1979 performance at The Empire Pool in London (now known as Wembley Arena).

Walsh performed a series of North American dates last fall after wrapping up an extensive run with The Eagles on the “History Of The Eagles” tour.

Bad Company to release 1970s live album

Bad Company will release a pair of classic 1970s-era concerts this spring.

Due April 29, the 2CD “Live In Concert 1977 & 1979” delivers two previously unreleased live recordings: a 1977 show in Houston, TX and a 1979 performance at The Empire Pool in London (now known as Wembley Arena).

The sets feature the original Bad Company line up of singer Paul Rodgers, guitarist Mick Ralphs, drummer Simon Kirke and bassist Boz Burrell.

Both concerts feature material from the band’s catalog, including classic tracks from their self-titled 1974 album, 1975’s “Straight Shooter” and 1976’s “Run With The Pack.”

“Live In Concert 1977 & 1979” presents more than two-and-half hours of unreleased music taken from 24-track tapes in the band’s vault. The music heard on this live collection features absolutely no enhancements or overdubs, nothing but the band as they performed live on the night of the concert.

Vinyl fans should note that the concerts will also be released individually as double-LP sets later this year.

“Live In Concert 1977 & 1979” also includes the band’s cover of “Hey Joe”, which was recorded on March 9, 1979 at the Capitol Center in Washington, DC.

Bad Company to reissue expanded versions of first two albums

Bad Company will release expanded versions of their first two classic albums, “Bad Company” and “Straight Shooter”, as digital and Deluxe CD Editions featuring rare and previously unreleased recordings on April 7.

The release follows 2014’s reissue of both projects on 180-gram vinyl.

The band’s self-titled debut album, 1974’s “Bad Company”, reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Top 200 and has since been certified five times platinum for US sales of 5 million copies. The set contains some of the most well known rock songs of all time, including “Can’t Get Enough”, “Rock Steady”, “Ready For Love”, “Don’t Let Me Down”, “Bad Company”, “The Way I Choose”, “Movin’ On” and “Seagull.”

The album produced two US top-20 singles: “Can’t Get Enough” reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, while “Movin’ On’” reached No. 19.

The second disc of the Deluxe Edition features 12 tracks, including eight previously unreleased recordings such as the demo for the ballad “The Way I Choose”, a take of “Bad Company” recorded right before the album version, and an unedited version of “Superstar Woman”, a song that frontman Paul Rodgers later recorded in 1983 for his solo album “Cut Loose.” Also featured is the single edit of “Can’t Get Enough”, and the b-sides “Little Miss Fortune” and “Easy On My Soul.”

The band’s follow-up album, 1975’s “Straight Shooter”, reached No. 3 on the Billboard Top 200 and featured the hits “Feel Like Making Love” (No. 10) and “Good Lovin’ Gone Bad” (No. 36) along with “Shooting Star”, “Deal With The Preacher”, “Weep No More”, “Wild Fire Woman”, “Anna” and “Call On Me.”

Of the 14 bonus tracks, all are previously unreleased except the b-side “Whiskey Bottle.” Among the standouts is a stripped-down version of “Shooting Star,” a remix of “Good Lovin’ Gone Bad” with alternative guitar and vocals tracks, as well as two lost gems, never released before: “See The Sunlight” and “All Night Long.”
