Glenn Hughes announces 2019 Classic Deep Purple Live UK tour

Glenn Hughes will exclusively present material from his former band on his “Glenn Hughes Performs Classic Deep Purple Live” UK tour next spring.

The two-week run will see the singer/bassist deliver a two-hour live homage to his tenure in Deep Purple MK 3 and MK 4.

Currently on the road in the UK this week and next as part of a fall European run, Hughes will return to his homeland in May 2019 for another 8-show series that will begin in Holmfirth on May 14.

"I'm excited to be touring the Classic Deep Purple Live in the UK in May 2019,” says Hughes. “I first toured Classic Deep Purple Live in Australia and New Zealand last year and it went down like a storm. We’re currently touring a first set of dates in the UK and are looking forward for a second round in 2019.”

Planet Rock has launched a 48-hour pre-sale here ahead of general public tickets going on sale Friday, October 5 via thegigcartel.com.

Prior to the UK tour, Hughes will play a pair of newly-announced a pair of shows at The Iridium in New York City in April, with ticket details available at his website.

Hughes and the early lineups of Deep Purple were inducted into the 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at a ceremony in New York in 2016 alongside fellow honorees Cheap Trick, Steve Miller, Chicago and N.W.A.

Glenn Hughes to perform Classic Deep Purple on US tour

Glenn Hughes will exclusively present material from his former band on his “Glenn Hughes Performs Classic Deep Purple Live” US tour this fall.

The month-long run – which opens in Westbury, NY on August 25 – will see the singer/bassist deliver a two-hour live homage to his tenure in Deep Purple MK 3 and MK 4.

“I’m not playing anything on the forthcoming tour that I didn’t either play live or record in the studio with Purple,” says Hughes. “I can still sing the songs, in some ways even better than I did in the 70’s. I can still perform them with the same energy that was on the stage back then, too.

“I feel that the time is right. It’s fun to get back into character of my days with Purple. I’m looking back at my life and I want to remember the good stuff. I’m incredibly excited to perform these songs, as they helped define the genre. I can assure you, the new show is going to blow your mind.”

Hughes will be joined on the trek by a touring band that features guitarist Soren Anderson, keyboardist Jesper Bo Hansen and drummer Fer Escobedo.

Presales for the fall US tour are underway this week ahead of general public tickets going on sale Friday, April 6 at 10 AM EDT – check glennhughes.com for details.

A second US leg will follow in November and December, with dates to be announced.

Hughes will play a series of South American concerts this month before hitting the European festival circuit this summer.

The nine date run – which opens in Bristol on October 2 – will see the singer/bassist deliver a two-hour live homage to his tenure in Deep Purple MK 3 and MK 4.

“I’m excited to be touring the Classic Deep Purple Live in the UK this October,” says Hughes. “I first toured Classic Deep Purple Live in Australia and New Zealand last year and it went down like a storm. We’re also touring the show throughout South America in April, and festivals throughout the summer. By the time we tour the UK in October, we’ll be on fire.”

Black Country Communion are streaming a video for “The Cove”, as the latest track issued from their fourth album, “BCCIV.”

“I wanted to write a song about my love for dolphins,” explains bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes. “Each year thousands of these beautiful souls are murdered by hunters in the coastal town of Taiji Japan. They are drove into the Killing Cove and brutally slaughtered.

“I have been working with Ric O'Barry from the Dolphin Project for four years, and told him I had written a song about this senseless & horrific scenario for BCCIV, that has been happening for decades.”

“My heart aches as I watch on live stream on what happens in the Cove,” adds the rocker. “I ask you all to listen to this song and understand how deeply affected we all are as animal and sea life protectors. The Dolphin

Project has changed my life, and to my dying day I will be of service to be a protector of all inhabitants that live in the sea.”

Black Country Communion are premiering a video for “Love Remains”, as the latest track issued from their fourth album, “BCCIV.”

“I wrote it for my father while I was flying over from L.A.,” bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes tells Planet Mosh. “My father had just passed away in his sleep – he’d had dementia and died the day I got home from the [Deep Purple Rock And Roll] Hall Of Fame induction [in April of 2016], so I had to leave almost immediately to fly over. I wrote that song on a little notepad and I was going to sing it at the memorial but just couldn’t, I was just so sad, so I sang it on the album.

“I sang the song to my mother before my Dad’s funeral, so she knew I was going to sing it on the Black Country album. I’m ok with it now, I can’t bring my mum back or my dad. They’ve lived their lives. The message she gave me [before her passing in February of 2017] was to continue and live my life.”

Recorded in Los Angeles with producer Kevin Shirley, “BCCIV” sees the lineup of Hughes, guitarist Joe Bonamassa, keyboardist Derek Sherinian and drummer Jason Bonham reunite following a split in 2013.

Black Country Communion are premiering a video for “Wanderlust”, from their fourth album, “BCCIV.”

Clocking in at over 8 minutes, the longest track on the supergroup’s latest record mixes some of the band’s influences, which bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes says grew out of a jam with guitarist Joe Bonamassa.

“We’re always jamming, Joe and I,” Hughes tells the Blues Rock Review, “and I may have been tuning my bass up and he starts playing (hums riff) and I’m going, ‘Don’t stop! Carry on, what key is this?’ I found out we were in B and I’m, like, this is great and then I started to sing, ‘Oh, when I come around.’

“I know what’s coming. I know when there’s going to be a pre-chorus and when the chorus hit, I started to play these Beatle kind of chords in a rock version and we just knew this was a song. Of course, the Fleetwood Mac part is Joe being Joe, but as you know, Joe will say to you he’s just borrowing from somebody else as I borrow from X, Y or Z. Trust me, we all borrow from each other.”

The clip sees producer Kevin Shirley cracking the whip in the studio with members of the supergroup - bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes, guitarist Joe Bonamassa, keyboardist Derek Sherinian and drummer Jason Bonham.

“BCCIV” sees the lineup reunite following a split in 2013.

“A lot has happened since we last recorded the 'Afterglow' album in 2013,” explains Hughes, “so, in many ways, the new album shows BCC with a much harder, riffier and bigger and bolder sound. If you’re looking for a folk album, this ain’t the one. I wanted the new album to physically shake your soul.

“The results speak for themselves. All four of us wanted to make a record that stood up to the first three albums. The new album is more of a progression.”

Black Country Communion will launch “BCCIV” with two exclusive concerts in the UK in January, with shows at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall on January 2 and London’s Hammersmith Apollo on January 4.

“All the songs were written with a topic," says Hughes. "What kind of song we’re going to write musically, what kind of song am I going to write lyrics about? This album is about walking through the fear, having faith, hope, the killing of dolphins – which I’m against, of course.

“The results speak for themselves. All four of us wanted to make a record that stood up to the first three albums. The new album is more of a progression.”

“Over My Head” is the third track issued from the project, following “Last Song For My Resting Place” and the set’s lead single, “Collide.”

Deep Purple: Ian Gillan solo box set announced

A new 3CD box set highlighting the solo works of Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan has been announced.

Due November 17, “The Voice Of Deep Purple: The Gillan Years” delivers three of the singer’s projects – 1977’s “Scarabus”, 1988’s “Accidentally On Purpose” and 1990’s “Naked Thunder” – alongside five bonus tracks: "Smoke On The Water", "Black Night" and "Restless" from Gillan; "Child In Time" and "Woman From Tokyo" from Ian Gillan Band, plus an interview with the rocker in Tokyo during the Gillan Japanese tour.

“Scarabus” was the third and final studio album by the Ian Gillan Band.

Gillan was co-billed on “Accidentally On Purpose” with Deep Purple bandmate and bassist Roger Glover.

The rocker issued “Naked Thunder” soon after his exit from Deep Purple in 1989 (he returned in 1992).

Gillan is currently on a break from the road with Deep Purple, who are touring in support of their latest album, “inFinite.”

Produced by Bob Ezrin, Deep Purple will issue a limited gold edition of the project on November 3.

The 2CD digipack release will deliver the original album alongside a previously unreleased 80-minute live show from Hellfest 2017, the biggest metal festival in France.

The concert will also be issued on the 3LP set, “The inFinite Live Recordings, Pt. 1.”

In addition, Deep Purple will release the 97-minute documentary, “From Here to inFinite”, on Blu-ray; it presents, for the first time, the development of the album and a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of the band.

Deep Purple will resume their “inFinite – The Long Goodbye Tour” with dates in Europe beginning November 6 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Deep Purple have issued an animated video for “The Surprising”, a track from their latest album, “inFinite.”

Directed and illustrated by Matt Rooke, alongside producers Peter Rogers, Craig Hooper and Collin Games, the clip takes the viewer on a journey through the 50-year history of the band with sometimes subtle visual references to their classic albums and tracks.

Deep Purple recorded “inFinite” last year in Nashville, TN with producer Bob Ezrin, who also worked with them on 2013’s "Now What?!"

Coinciding with the video premiere for “The Surprising”, Deep Purple will issue a limited gold edition of “inFinite” on November 3.

Glenn Hughes cuts Christchurch show short due to illness

Glenn Hughes cut short the opening night of his New Zealand tour in Christchurch on Tuesday due to what witnesses called "some sort of a medical event."

Currently on the road playing his first full concerts of classic Deep Purple material in 40 years, Hughes performed two shows in Australia before the Christchurch show.

Stuff.co.nz reports Hughes left the stage at the Horncastle Arena with 15 minutes left of his set and spent the night in a Christchurch hospital after being assessed by doctors who said the rocker was suffering from dehydration and fatigue.

Tour publicist Sandra Roberts said Hughes' promoter, Simone Williams of Liberty Stage, had described the singer as "comfortable and resting," with Roberts adding that he "has been given a clean bill of health and the all clear to continue his New Zealand tour."

Hughes is scheduled to perform at Wellington's Michael Fowler Centre on September 27 before returning to Australia for two more dates before wrapping up the trek in Auckland on October 3.

The bassist joined the Mark III edition of Deep Purple in 1973 alongside David Coverdale to deliver a one-two punch on lead vocals. The lineup recorded a pair of 1974 albums – “Burn” and “Stormbringer” – before guitarist Ritchie Blackmore exited, replaced by Tommy Bolin in the Mark IV version for 1975’s “Come Taste The Band.”

Deep Purple disbanded in 1976, only to see the Mark II lineup reform in 1984.

Due September 22 via Mascot Records, the project sees the return of the supergroup to active duty after they disbanded in early 2013.

Black Country Communion return with new album this fall

Supergroup Black Country Communion will return this fall with the release of their fourth album, “BCCIV”, via Mascot Records on September 22.

The lineup of bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes, guitarist Joe Bonamassa, keyboardist Derek Sherinian and drummer Jason Bonham recorded the set at Cave Studios in Los Angeles with producer Kevin Shirley.

Glenn Hughes to perform first full classic Deep Purple shows in 40 years

Glenn Hughes will perform his first full concerts of classic Deep Purple material in 40 years on a newly-announced tour of Australia and New Zealand.

The 2-week, 7-show run - which opens at the State Theatre in Sydney, AU on September 20 – will hit Perth, Christchurch, Willington, Melbourne and Brisbane before wrapping up in Auckland, NZ on October 3.

Hughes joined the Mark III edition of Deep Purple in 1973 alongside David Coverdale to deliver a one-two punch on lead vocals. The lineup recorded a pair of 1974 albums – “Burn” and “Stormbringer” – before guitarist Ritchie Blackmore exited, replaced by Tommy Bolin in the Mark IV version for 1975’s “Come Taste The Band.”

Deep Purple disbanded following a March 15, 1976 concert at Liverpool's Empire Theatre, only to see the Mark II lineup reform in 1984.

The 2017 trek will see Hughes joined by guitarist Jeff Kollman, keyboardist Lachy Doley and drummer Pontus Engborg.

“I’m incredibly excited to get out there and play tracks like ‘Burn’, ‘Mistreated’, ‘Stormbringer’ and ‘Getting Tighter’,“ says Hughes, “as well as some of those older songs that helped define the genre. With this band, I can assure you of a concert that’ll blow your mind."

Hughes and the early lineups of Deep Purple were inducted into the 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at a ceremony in New York alongside fellow honorees Cheap Trick, Steve Miller, Chicago and N.W.A.

The bassist has regrouped with Black Country Communion for a new album, which is expected to be released later this year.

Black Country Communion begin recording fourth album

Black Country Communion have entered the studio to begin recording their fourth album.

“Here we go,” writes bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes on his social media sites, “BCC4 recording in Hollywood.”

“The gang is all here,” tweeted guitarist Joe Bonamassa on Wednesday alongside a photo of the band in the studio.

The lineup of Hughes, Bonamassa, keyboardist Derek Sherinian and drummer Jason Bonham revealed plans last year to reunite after they disbanded in early 2013.

The group connected for a series of writing sessions in September with producer Kevin Shirley.

Formed in 2009, the supergroup issued their self-titled debut album in 2010, “Black Country Communion 2” in 2011 and “Afterglow” in 2012.

Hughes released his first solo album in eight years, “Resonate”, last fall and will perform a 10-date UK tour in support of the project with shows starting January 20 in Newcastle.

Glenn Hughes announces UK tour

Glenn Hughes has announced dates for an early 2017 tour of the UK.

The 10-show run with guests Stone Broken opens in Newcastle on January 20 and wraps in Bristol on February 2.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public from 10 AM on Friday, November 25, and can be booked online from myticket.co.uk and www.seetickets.com.

“I am happy to announce my UK and European tour,” says Hughes. “My team have been hard at work to make this happen, so my band and I can perform on this tour to promote my new album Resonate. All love and see you down the front.”

Hughes was recently forced to cancel a co-headlining tour of the UK and Europe with Living Colour after the American band double-booked dates with Alter Bridge during the same period.

The originally-scheduled 6-week run was set for to begin earlier this month and run into mid-December.

“Resonate” marks the bassist’s first solo release in eight years following stints with California Breed and the recently-reunited Black Country Communion.

Glenn Hughes cancels European tour after Living Colour bails

Glenn Hughes has cancelled his co-headlining tour of Europe with Living Colour after the American band double-booked dates with Alter Bridge during the same period.

The 6-week run to promote his new album, “Resonate”, was scheduled to start November 8 in Leamington, UK and run into mid-December, but now Hughes says the shows are off.

“New management for Living Colour knowingly booked them onto the Alter Bridge tour although they were already confirmed for the Glenn Hughes co-headline tour, which had been on sale since April,” read the statement from Hughes. “Alter Bridge and Glenn Hughes have been long-time friends and neither Alter Bridge, their management and agents or even Living Colour's agent TKO were aware that this was taking place.

“When word got to promoters that Living Colour were no longer planning to perform on the co-headline dates, they were forced to refund all tickets. All ticket holders of Glenn Hughes' UK/European tour will be offered refunds at the point of purchase and can call the venues for more information.

“I am saddened and disappointed that I will not be able to perform for my UK and European fans as I had originally intended,” Hughes adds. “When I partnered with Living Colour to do this tour, I thought we would be able to make something special happen at these shows.

"Unfortunately, an undermining manager got involved and in turn ruined what would have been an amazing tour. I can’t wait to get back to the UK and Europe to bring the new songs of ‘Resonate’ to my fans overseas.”

Living Colour issued a statement regarding the situation, saying “Legendary Grammy Award-winning rock band Living Colour have announced a rescheduled European tour this November after being forced to cancel a co-headlining tour with Glenn Hughes due to an unforeseen conflict.”

Glenn Hughes is streaming the track “Let It Shine”, as the latest preview to the November 4 release of “Resonate.”

Hughes co-produce the record with his guitarist Søren Andersen, and the pair are joined on the project by drummer Pontus Engborg and keyboardist Lachlan “Lachy” Doley.

Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith guests on two tracks, including the lead single “Heavy.”

“It’s my first solo album in 8 years,” says Hughes. “Everybody needs to know that this is absolutely a return to rock music as a solo artist for me. My work is very varied. Groovy, funky, soulful, although the genre has always been rock. But this album is probably THE heaviest record I’ve done in at least 25 years.

“It’s dense. It’s dark. There’s some aggression on this record. Every bloody track is begging to be played live.”

Inducted into the 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame as a member of Deep Purple earlier this year, Hughes returns to live action next month for a UK tour with Midlands rock band Stone Broken after Living Colour pulled out, and then he is schedule to play shows across Europe into December.

Glenn Hughes is streaming “My Town”, as the latest preview to his forthcoming album, “Resonate.”

"'My Town' can kind of mean something for everybody," explains Hughes. "I just feel really comfortable singing that song about where I live. Los Angeles is a make-or-break city. It's a town that can kill you. Like New York, you have to be ready to live on the streets and be a part of the streets. But I have been living here most of my life and this is my town."
