Ronnie James Dio documentary trailer now streaming

Producers of the official Ronnie James Dio documentary, “Dio: Dreamers Never Die”, are streaming a video trailer ahead of the film’s debut in cinemas next month.

Directed by Don Argott and Demian Fenton and executive produced by Wendy Dio, the project delves deep into the singer’s career, from a ‘50s doo-wop crooner to his early rock days in Elf and Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, to replacing Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath, and finally cementing his rock star status with his own band, Dio.

The film incorporates never-before-seen footage and personal photos, as well as offering intimate scenes with his closest peers, family, and friends, among them Wendy Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Glenn Hughes, Vinny Appice, Lita Ford, Rob Halford, Sebastian Bach, Eddie Trunk, and Jack Black.

“Dio: Dreamers Never Die” will debut in more than 500 cinemas worldwide via Trafalgar Releasing for two days only – on Wednesday, September. 28 and Sunday, October 2 – and, in addition to the feature-length film, this special cinema event will also include a hand-picked selection of outtakes from the cutting room floor, creating an experience that is exclusive only to fans in attendance.

Tickets for the cinema event are now on sale at diodreamersneverdie.com.

Ronnie James Dio documentary coming to cinemas

The official Ronnie James Dio documentary, “Dio: Dreamers Never Die”, will debut in cinemas worldwide late next month.

Following its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, TX this spring, the project – directed by Don Argott and Demian Fenton and executive produced by Wendy Dio – delves deep into the singer’s career, from a ‘50s doo-wop crooner to his early rock days in Elf and Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, to replacing Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath, and finally cementing his rock star status with his own band, Dio.

“Dio: Dreamers Never Die” will debut in cinemas worldwide via Trafalgar Releasing for two days only – on Wednesday, September. 28 and Sunday, October 2 – and, in addition to the feature-length film, this special cinema event will also include a hand-picked selection of outtakes from the cutting room floor, creating an experience that is exclusive only to fans in attendance.

Tickets for the cinema event will go on sale on Wednesday, August 24 at 10:00 a.m. EDT at diodreamersneverdie.com.

"People who have conviction, talent and heart like Ronnie James Dio are in short supply these days,” says co-directors Argott and Fenton. “It is refreshing to share his inspiring story of believing in yourself and chasing your dreams. As life-long Dio fans, it is incredibly humbling to bring Ronnie’s journey to the screen and we can’t wait to share it with audiences."

A soundtrack from “Dio: Dreamers Never Die” will be released in the fall.

Ronnie James Dio to release expanded Holy Diver reissue

Ronnie James Dio’s team have announced plans to release a remixed and expanded version of his 1983 debut album, “Holy Diver”, on July 8.

Timed to arrive in sync with what would have been the late rocker’s 80th birthday on July 10, the “Holy Diver” Super Deluxe Edition delivers two versions of the project: the first is a new mix of the album from the original analog tapes by Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, Slipknot); the second is a newly-remastered version of the original 1983 mix.

The package will also include a previously-unreleased recording of Dio captured live in a 1983 show at Selland Arena in Fresno, CA during the Holy Diver Tour – and unreleased outtakes for several album cuts, including unheard takes for “Invisible,” “Straight Through The Heart,” and a version of “Rainbow In The Dark” that boasts an alternative guitar solo. There’s also an early version of “Evil Eyes,” a song that would resurface on Dio’s 1984 follow-up album, “The Last in Line.”

A selection of rarities rounds out the new collection with mono and stereo 7” single edits for “Rainbow In The Dark” and a version of “Evil Eyes” that was released in 1983 as the B-side to “Holy Diver.”

The 2022 reissue will be available in multiple formats, including 4CD and 2LP sets.

Dio recorded “Holy Diver” following his 1982 exit from Black Sabbath, putting together a lineup that included drummer Vinny Appice (Dio’s Black Sabbath bandmate), bassist/keyboardist Jimmy Bain (Dio’s Rainbow bandmate) and guitarist Vivian Campbell.

The album delivered two singles – the title track and “Rainbow In The Dark” – that delivered significant airplay in the US and helped push the record to sales of more than 2 million copies in the region.

Dio passed away in 2010 at the age of 67 after a battle with stomach cancer.

The official Ronnie James Dio documentary, “Dio: Dreamers Never Die”, premiered earlier this year at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, TX; directed by Don Argott and Demian Fenton and executive produced by Wendy Dio, the project traces the singer’s legendary career, which included stints with Rainbow and Sabbath, among others, alongside his solo years.

Rainbow stream new single Waiting For A Sign

Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow are streaming a new single, “Waiting For A Sign”, as a preview to the April 6 release of their new live album, “Memories In Rock II.”

The band’s first original track since 1996 – with new vocalist Ronnie Romero – is featured on the 2 CD/DVD package that captures the group in concert over three 2017 shows in the UK.

“Memories In Rock II” combines new live versions of classic tracks from Blackmore’s time with both Deep Purple and Rainbow alongside backstage footage and interviews with the entire revamped Rainbow lineup.

The set marks the follow-up to 2016’s “Memories In Rock - Live In Germany”, which delivered the legendary guitarist’s return to the rock stage for the first time in two decades.

"Rainbow is part of my life, as is Deep Purple,” explains Blackmore. “I just got back together for a few shows because I wanted to have a blast on the Strat. That’s always good fun but it’s not something I will do all the time. I might do another couple of shows. Japan wants us and a lot of other places. Blackmore’s Night is really my main music – that’s much more challenging. It’s not so easy to play.”

Rainbow will launch the project with a series of live dates in April, including shows in Russia, Finland, Germany and the Czech Republic.

Deep Purple premiere video for new single Johnny’s Band

Deep Purple are premiering a video for the new single, “Johnny’s Band”, from their latest album, “inFinite.”

The clip – which tells the tale of a band on their way up and down in the music business – was scripted and directed by Craig Hooper and Collin Games, who put together the documentary “From Here To inFinite” included in the limited CD+DVD edition of the project.

A collector’s edition single for “Johnny’s Band” will include previously unreleased live songs when it’s issued next month.

Deep Purple recorded “inFinite” last year in Nashville, TN with producer Bob Ezrin, who also worked with them on 2013’s "Now What?!"

The band are currently touring the world on their “inFinite – The Long Goodbye Tour”, which they launched last month in Bucharest, Romania.

An extensive European trek runs to July 4 in Lisbon, Portugal before the group begins a joint North American headlining run with Alice Cooper in Las Vegas on August 12.

AUDIO: Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow release first new recordings in two decades

Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow has released two singles that mark the band’s first new recordings in more than two decades.

Originally featured on 1981’s “Difficult To Cure”, the guitarist has re-recorded that project’s lead track, “I Surrender”, with new Rainbow vocalist Ronnie Romero.

A second track, “Land Of Hope And Glory”, is an instrumental reworking of the 1902 British patriotic song of the same name from Edward Elgar's "Pomp And Circumstance March No. 1."

"We recorded some songs for Blackmore’s Night and two songs with the new singer for Rainbow,” Blackmore recently told Japan’s Burrn! magazine. “I wrote one new song, and also recorded one of the old ones. Ronnie, who is in Madrid now, added his vocals and sent it back. Rather than make an album, we may release as singles."

The tunes mark the first recordings released by Rainbow since their eighth album, 1995’s “Stranger In Us All.” After completing a tour in support of the record, the guitarist left rock behind to form the medieval folk band Blackmore’s Night with then-girlfriend and now-wife Candice Night.

Blackmore regrouped Rainbow last year for live dates with a lineup that featured Romero, Stratovarius keyboardist Jens Johansson, Blackmore’s Night drummer David Keith, bassist Bob Nouveau and backup singers Candice Night and Lady Lynn.

On June 9, Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow will release “Live In Birmingham 2016”, a 2CD/digital audio set capturing the guitarist’s return to the rock stage during a June 2016 concert at the city’s Genting Arena that was the third and final date of the group’s European shows – following a pair of appearances at Monsters Of Rock festivals earlier the same month that were issued last fall as “Memories In Rock - Live In Germany.”

The Birmingham release will arrive prior to the launch of Rainbow’s upcoming UK tour: the band will headline the second annual Stone Free Festival at the 02 in London on June 17 before performing shows in Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham.

Rock News Artist of The Year No. 7 – RAINBOW

Late last year, Ritchie Blackmore announced plans to return to the rock stage in 2016 for the first time in two decades with a series of shows featuring a revamped Rainbow lineup.

Having left rock behind in the 90s, the Deep Purple legend launched a medieval folk band called Blackmore’s Night in 1997 alongside then-girlfriend and now wife Candice Night.

The extended Rainbow family began 2016 with sad news at the loss of former bassist Jimmy Bain, who passed away from undiagnosed lung cancer and complications from pneumonia at the age of 68 on January 23 while on Def Leppard's "Hysteria On The High Seas" cruise where he was to perform with the Ronnie James Dio-centered band Last In Line.

In February, Blackmore underwent surgery to address an excess of uric acid buildup in his finger joint, which sidelined him from playing/rehearsing for about a month.

March saw the guitarist being sued by Italian label Frontiers Records over a failed 2015 project by Blackmore’s Night. The suit alleges the guitarist blew off promotion commitments in support of the band’s 10th album, “All Our Yesterdays”, which contributed to poor sales.

Blackmore was among the members of Deep Purple inducted into the 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame during an April 8 ceremony in New York, where the band was honored alongside Cheap Trick, Steve Miller, Chicago and N.W.A.

While the guitarist did not attend the ceremony following word that the present day lineup of the group refused to perform with former members at the event, he did acknowledge his appreciation for the honor a few days later.

Following the Rock Hall induction, Rainbow released “Monsters Of Rock - Live At Donington 1980”, which captured the last performance of the lineup of Blackmore, keyboardist Don Airey, bassist Roger Glover, vocalist Graham Bonnet and drummer Cozy Powell as they headlined the first rock festival ever staged at Castle Donington.

In June, Blackmore hit the stage at a pair of Monsters Of Rock festivals in Loreley and Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany and a headline show in the UK, where he was joined by a Rainbow lineup that included Lords Of Black singer Ronnie Romero, Stratovarius keyboardist Jens Johansson, Blackmore’s Night drummer David Keith and bassist Bob Nouveau.

The festival appearances were captured for a November DVD and Blu-ray release, “Memories In Rock - Live In Germany”, which delivered a mix of classic tracks by Rainbow and Deep Purple.

Blackmore ended 2016 by announcing Rainbow will return in 2017 for a four-date UK tour in June.

Deep Purple confirm new album plans

Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover confirms the band’s new album is done and will be released next spring.

“I have a little bit of news for you – not a lot, but some,” says Glover in a new video update. “I know a lot of you have been waiting for this new album of ours. Well, it’s nearly there. We recorded it in Nashville in February and we’ve been working on it and the mixes were finally done a couple of months ago. It’ll be out sometime next year – early spring. I’m in Hamburg and it’s the first playback to some of the distributors and the record label chiefs and it’s very exciting.

“I know you’ve been very patient – and so have we. We tour a lot and it’s difficult to actually get some time in the studio sometimes. But the album is finished. We haven’t got a title yet. We’re still arguing about that – as we do about everything. But for you, who have been waiting for so long, it won’t be much longer.”

Glover’s update follows similar news from singer Ian Gillan, who confirmed the album’s completion after hearing it for the first time last month.

Recorded with legendary producer Bob Ezrin, the follow-up to 2013’s "Now What?!" will be the group’s 20th studio release.

Deep Purple were inducted into the 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at a ceremony in New York in April alongside fellow honorees Cheap Trick, Steve Miller, Chicago and N.W.A.

Earlier this year, Deep Purple issued the DVD “Live At The NEC”, presenting a concert recorded at the NEC in Birmingham, UK.

The project captures a landmark September 14, 2002 show at the venue as the group bid farewell to founding member and keyboard legend Jon Lord, who would retire from the lineup less than a week later.

Blackmore was joined by Lords Of Black singer Ronnie Romero, Stratovarius keyboardist Jens Johansson, Blackmore’s Night drummer David Keith, bassist Bob Nouveau and backup singers Candice Night and Lady Lynn for the rare rock shows by the former Deep Purple legend.

The setlist for both events mixed Rainbow tracks “Man On The Silver Mountain”, “Long Live Rock ‘N’ Roll” and “Stargazer”, among others, with Deep Purple classics like “Highway Star”, “Child In Time”, “Mistreated”, “Perfect Strangers” and “Smoke On The Water.”

Blackmore last performed rock in 1997 while touring in support of Rainbow’s eighth album, “Stranger In Us All.” That same year he went on to form the medieval folk band Blackmore’s Night with then-girlfriend and now-wife Candice Night, and the group has gone on to release ten albums.

“Memories In Rock - Live In Germany” will also be issued as a deluxe version (DVD, Blu-ray and 2CD in a 48-page hardback photobook) and a 3LP version (180-gram vinyl) on December 2.

VIDEO: Ritchie Blackmore returns to rock with Rainbow

Ritchie Blackmore returned to the stage with a revamped Rainbow lineup over the weekend to perform his first rock shows in two decades.

The band made their 2016 live debut at the Monsters Of Rock festival at Freilichtbühne in Loreley, Germany on June 17 and performed at the Monsters Of Rock festival at Festplatz am Viadukt in Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany on June 18.

The guitarist was joined by Lords Of Black singer Ronnie Romero, Stratovarius keyboardist Jens Johansson, Blackmore’s Night drummer David Keith and bassist Bob Nouveau for the pair of rare rock shows.

The revamped Rainbow lineup will play their third and final scheduled 2016 show with a solo headlining date at the Genting Arena in Birmingham, UK on June 25.

Blackmore was inducted into the 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame as a member of Deep Purple at a ceremony in New York in April.

Former Deep Purple singer responds to Ritchie Blackmore’s Rock Hall induction comments

Former Deep Purple singer Joe Lynn Tuner has issued a response to comments by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore following the band’s induction into the 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at an April 8 ceremony in New York.

"Obviously, as you know from the post here,” wrote Blackmore on Facebook, “I have my reason for not attending the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremony, although I appreciate the award. However, I do think that they should've given an award to Joe Lynn Turner for when he was in Deep Purple for his singing and writing on ‘Slaves And Masters’ – a great record, one of my favorites."

Deep Purple were honored at the event alongside fellow inductees Cheap Trick, Steve Miller, Chicago and N.W.A.

The Rock Hall chose to induct most of Deep Purple’s first three lineups, including Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Jon Lord, Ian Paice, Rod Evans, David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes.

“Congrats to Deep Purple for their long overdue induction,” wrote Turner on Facebook. “And I am proud and blessed to be a part of the DP legacy. However, Blackmore's absence at the ceremony was truly noticed. His credo always was and is to know your own truth and walk your own path... follow no one. A true 'outlaw' til the end.

“So I am humbled and touched by the recent Blackmore post concerning my work with the band. His respectful and supportive comments of my efforts on the ‘Slaves and Masters’ album were better than any 'award' I could receive, especially from an organization that has 'lost the point' many years ago.

“I agree that ‘Slaves and Masters’ is a great album as our collaborations have always been a mix of magical chemistry and artful integrity that will stand the test of time. My heartfelt thanks and sincere respect to a true original."

Former Rainbow singer Turner stepped in as frontman for Deep Purple and the 1990 album after longtime vocalist Ian Gillan was fired from the band in 1989; he remained in the lineup until August of 1992, when Gillan returned to the group in time for their 25th anniversary tour in 1993.

Blackmore will make a rare return to the rock stage with a newly-revamped Rainbow for three concerts in June.

Ritchie Blackmore comments on Deep Purple Rock Hall induction

Ritchie Blackmore has made his first public comments on Deep Purple’s induction into the 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at a ceremony in New York on April 8.

The band were honored at the event alongside fellow inductees Cheap Trick, Steve Miller, Chicago and N.W.A.

The Rock Hall chose to induct most of Deep Purple’s first three lineups, including Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Jon Lord, Ian Paice, Rod Evans, David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes.

Blackmore did not attend the ceremony following word that the present day lineup of the group refused to perform with former members at the event.

"Obviously, as you know from the post here,” wrote Blackmore on his Facebook page, “I have my reason for not attending the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremony, although I appreciate the award. Metallica drummer and hardcore fan Lars Ulrich delivered the induction speech, which was followed by comments from the inductees.

The current Deep Purple lineup – including non-inductees Steve Morse and Don Aireyperformed a mini-set featuring “Highway Star”, a snippet of Booker T. & the M.G.'s “Green Onions”, their Billy Joe Royal cover of “Hush”, and “Smoke On The Water.”

Glover, Coverdale and Hughes joined the all-star jam at the end of the evening following the night’s final inductees Cheap Trick.

Deep Purple will perform a Japanese tour next month before playing dates in Russia in June and across Europe over the summer.

Deep Purple were inducted into the 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame during an April 8 ceremony at New York’s Barclays Center.

The band were honored at the event alongside fellow inductees Cheap Trick, Steve Miller, Chicago and N.W.A.

The ceremony inducted most of Deep Purple's first three lineups into the Hall, including Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Jon Lord, Ian Paice, Ritchie Blackmore, Rod Evans, David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes.

As expected, Blackmore did not attend the ceremony following word that the present day lineup of the group refused to perform with former members at the event.

Metallica drummer and hardcore fan Lars Ulrich delivered the induction speech, recalling his discovery of the group in 1973 at the age of 9 while offering praise to each of the group’s 8 inductees and 14 members overall.

“With almost no exceptions,” said Ulrich, “every hard rock band in the last 40 years, including mine, traces its lineage directly back to Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple.”

Frontman Ian Gillan began the acceptance speeches by giving a shout out to every member in the band’s history, adding, “You know, this is not really for us. I think this award is very much for families and business connections, our crew and our friends who have been absolutely amazing, watching for over 50 years.”

Drummer Ian Paice thanked fans, friends and family as the lone surviving original member of Deep Purple since their formation in 1968.

“I'm the guy who has been there from the beginning,” said Paice. “I've seen it all. And when I say I've seen it all, I mean it. The good, the bad, the crazy, the stuff where we go, ‘How the hell did we get into that situation?’

“Bands are a weird conglomeration of people. You can work together, and you can create wonderful things, and then you find that you can't deal with each other. You can see a way out, you just can't get there. You look back, and you wonder how you can be so stupid. But you come again, so there's nothing better.”

The present day lineup of Deep Purple – including non-inductees Steve Morse and Don Airey – performed a mini-set featuring “Highway Star”, a snippet of Booker T. & the M.G.'s “Green Onions”, their Billy Joe Royal cover of “Hush”, and “Smoke On The Water.”

Glover, Coverdale and Hughes joined the all-star jam at the end of the evening following the night’s final inductees Cheap Trick.

Ritchie Blackmore sued by record label over Blackmore’s Night project

Ritchie Blackmore is being sued by Italian label Frontiers Records over a failed 2015 project by his band Blackmore’s Night.

The New York Post reports the suit – filed in a Manhattan federal court last week – alleges the guitarist blew off promotion commitments in support of the band’s 10th album, “All Our Yesterdays”, which contributed to poor sales.

Blackmore reportedly signed a three-year deal with Frontiers Records to license and distribute his 2015 release worldwide, provided he made “reasonable best efforts” to support the disc.

During a summer tour to promote the album, the label alleges the guitarist cancelled dozens of media appearances and interviews, including six TV and 25 to 30 tabloid sessions in Germany alone.

Frontiers, which paid Blackmore a $220,000 advance, is seeking a minimum of $150,000 in damages.

A lawyer for the guitarist denied the allegations, calling them “ludicrous.”

Meanwhile, Blackmore is gearing up for a rare return to the rock stage with a newly-revamped Rainbow.

The guitarist will be joined by Lords Of Black singer Ronnie Romero, Stratovarius keyboardist Jens Johansson, Blackmore’s Night drummer David Keith and bassist Bob Nouveau when they perform the Best of Rainbow and Deep Purple at the Monsters Of Rock festivals in Loreley, Germany on June 17 and Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany on June 18, as well as a solo headlining date at the Genting Arena in Birmingham, UK on June 25.

Ahead of the Rainbow shows, Blackmore will be inducted into the 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame on April 8 in New York as a member of Deep Purple.
