Def Leppard stream cover of Depeche Mode classic Personal Jesus

Def Leppard are streaming a cover of the Depeche Mode classic, “Personal Jesus”, as one of two songs recorded for the Spotify Singles series.

The UK rockers recorded the cover alongside their 1987 smash, “Hysteria”, during a May 16 session at the streaming service’s studio in New York.

The lead single from Depeche Mode’s seventh record, 1990’s “Violator”, reached No. 28 on the US Billboard Hot 100 while the project delivered the group their first US Top 10 album.

“Hysteria” was the fourth of seven singles from Def Leppard’s 1987 album of the same name; the tune hit No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 while the project went on to become the group’s most successful release with more than 25 million copies sold worldwide, including 12 million in the States alone.

Launched last year, the Spotify Singles series features artists recording at least two live songs — an original and a cover — for exclusively streaming on the site.

Def Leppard are currently playing co-headline dates on a North American tour with Journey that is scheduled to wrap up in Los Angeles in early October.

VIDEO: Scott Weiland rocks Depeche Mode cover on Jimmy Kimmel

To help promote the launch of his new book, “Not Dead & Not For Sale," Scott Weiland made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

Friday night’s performance of Depeche Mode’s “But Not Tonight” on Kimmel’s show came just days after Weiland picked up some unfavorable reviews on a New York city concert earlier in the week.

The Wall Street Journal declared the Gramercy theatre show a disaster, with Weiland hitting the stage 90 minutes later than scheduled, to a vocally unpleasant crowd.

The Tuesday night gig took place after only two days of rehearsals with a new backing band, which resulted in the show’s setlist containing nothing but covers, including songs by David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Radiohead and others.

Steven Tyler presents MusiCares Award to Dave Gahan

Steven Tyler did some giving back to the sobriety community Friday night at the 7th Annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert in Los Angeles.

Tyler presented the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award to Depeche Mode lead singer Dave Gahan at the event - a dinner and concert to benefit the MusiCares MAP Fund, which provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment.

Gahan was honored for his dedication and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund, and for his commitment to helping other addicts with the addiction and recovery process.

"One of the hardest things an addict can do is to get sober and to stay clean," Tyler told the crowd, according to Reuters. A woman yelled out "One day at a time" and Tyler replied "Yeah, yeah baby!"

“The MusiCares MAP Fund is an unbelievably important and courageous organization,” said Gahan in a release. “They continue to make a momentous commitment to the music community, and I am proud to support their ongoing work in raising awareness and funds.”

As a recovering heroin addict, Gahan has had more than his share of brushes with death. The Depeche Mode singer has endured a heart attack on stage, a suicide attempt and an overdose, all while trying to maintain a life and a career.

The MusiCares MAP Fund provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment. MusiCares offers programs and services to members of the music community including emergency financial assistance for basic living expenses, including rent, utilities and car payments; medical expenses including doctor, dentist and hospital bills; psychotherapy; and treatment for HIV/AIDS, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, hepatitis C, and other critical illnesses.

MusiCares offers nationwide educational workshops covering a variety of subjects, including financial, legal, medical, and substance abuse issues, and programs in collaboration with healthcare professionals that provide services such as flu shots, hearing tests and medical/dental screenings. Staffed by qualified chemical dependency and intervention specialists, MusiCares Safe Harbor Rooms offer a support network to those in recovery while they are participating in the production of televised music shows and other major music events.

Steven Tyler to present award to Depeche Mode singer at MusiCares event

As one half of the legendary “Toxic Twins,” Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler has been there, done that, and lived to tell the tale.

Who better, then, to help honor a fellow recovering addict celebrate sobriety than when Tyler will present the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award to Depeche Mode's lead vocalist Dave Gahan at the 7th Annual MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit Concert on May 6.

Gahan is being honored for his dedication and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund, and for his commitment to helping other addicts going through their recovery process.
