KISS members pay tribute to Ace Frehley

KISS members are paying tribute to Ace Frehley following his October 16 passing at the age of 74.

The lead guitarist suffered injuries and complications after having a fall in his home recording studio that resulted in treatment in hospital.

Frehley was the last member to join KISS upon its formation in New York in 1973, alongside Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and Peter Criss.

"We are devastated by the passing of Ace Frehley," shared KISS in a statement. "He was an essential and irreplaceable rock soldier during some of the most formative foundational chapters of the band and its history. He is and will always be a part of KISS's legacy. Our thoughts are with Jeanette, Monique and all those who loved him, including our fans around the world."

"Our hearts are broken," said Simmons. "Ace has passed on. No one can touch Ace's legacy. I know he loved the fans. He told me many times. Sadder still, Ace didn't live long enough to be honored at the Kennedy Ctr Honors event in Dec. Ace was the eternal rock soldier. Long may his legacy live on!"

"I remember 1974 being in my room at the Hyatt on Sunset in LA," recalled Stanley, and I heard someone playing deep and fiery guitar in the room next door. I thought "Boy, I wish THAT guy was in the band!" I looked over the balcony... He was. It was Ace."

"With a broken heart and deep, deep sadness, my brother Ace Frehley has passed away," shared Criss. "He died peacefully with his family around him. My wife and I were with him to the end as well. I love you my brother. My love and prayers go out to Jeanette, Monique, Charlie and Nancy and all of Ace's extended family, bandmates, fans and friends. May the Lord comfort you at this difficult time.

"As a founding member of the rock group KISS and in Ace's solo career, Ace influenced and touch the hearts of millions of people. His legacy will live on in the music industry and in the hearts of the KISS Army. At this time I ask all of you to please be respectful to Ace's family and allow them to grieve privately. To the KISS Army and Ace's Rock Soldiers, my heart is with you all... Broken..."

"The news of Ace's passing is devastating to the world of rock," said Bruce Kulick. "It has deeply affected me as well. He was one of a kind. And truly an iconic guitar player. His undeniable role in the creation and success of KISS cannot be forgotten. Not only was he loved by all, he influenced millions of guitarists around the world. RIP"

"A legend who will never be forgotten," added Tommy Thayer. "He inspired generations of guitarists, myself included, to chase greatness. It's been an honor to walk in his footsteps. His legacy will live forever. Rest in peace, Ace."

Ace Frehley dead at 74

Original KISS lead guitarist Ace Frehley has died at the age of 74.

The news comes after Frehley made headlines recently when he "had a minor fall in his studio" that resulted "in a trip to the hospital”, according to his spokeperson, who later shared an update: "Due to some ongoing medical issues, Ace has made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of his 2025 dates."

Earlier today, TMZ reported Frehley was hospitalized on life support after he suffered a brain bleed as a result of the studio accident.

Ace's social media team broke the news, posting: "ATTENTION: "Ace Frehley, GRAMMY® Award nominated and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducted rock guitarist; and iconic founding member of KISS, died today at age 74. Frehley passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Morristown, New Jersey, following a recent fall at his home.

"Frehley is survived by his wife Jeanette, daughter Monique, brother Charles, sister Nancy Salvner, nieces Suncere Frehley and Julie Salvner, nephews Sky Frehley and Andrew Salvner, sister-in-law Michelanne and brother-in-law Ron Salvner."

"We are completely devastated and heartbroken," shared his family in a statement. "In his last moments, we were fortunate enough to have been able to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers and intentions as he left this earth. We cherish all of his finest memories, his laughter, and celebrate his strengths and kindness that he bestowed upon others. The magnitude of his passing is of epic proportions, and beyond comprehension. Reflecting on all of his incredible life achievements, Ace's memory will continue to live on forever!"

Frehley was the last member to join KISS following a late 1972 audition in the band's home of New York City. Known as The Spaceman, the rocker appeared on nine KISS studio albums - from the self-titled 1973 record to 1981's "Music From The Elder" - during his original term.

The guitarist left the group in 1982 and started his solo career in 1984, where he toured and issued one album before reuniting with KISS in 1996 for a multi-year reunion tour - and, later, the "Psycho Circus" album - before resuming his solo work in 2003.

Frehley released six albums between 2009 and 2024 while continuing to tour; he had been working on a new album at the time of his passing.

Ace Frehley cancels all 2025 tour dates

Ace Frehley has cancelled all of his tour dates this year.

The guitarist’s team broke the news to fans on social media, saying “Due to some ongoing medical issues, Ace has made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of his 2025 dates.”

While no further details were provided, the news comes just weeks after Frehley had an accident in his studio that resulted in some initial schedule changes.

"Dear Rock Soldiers, Ace had a minor fall in his studio, resulting in a trip to the hospital,” read the online update. “He is fine, but against his wishes, his doctor insists that he refrain from travel at this time.

“As a result, he is forced to cancel his performance at the Antelope Valley Fair in Lancaster, California on Friday, September 26th. Please go to the fair to support his friends in Quiet Riot and Vixen, and Ace looks forward to continuing on his tour and finishing work on his next album, ‘Origins Vol. 4.’”

Frehley has been in the studio working on his latest record,"Origins Vol. 3", which will mark the third project in a series of albums of cover songs, following editions in 2016 and 2020.

Ace Frehley is streaming his new album, “10,000 Volts”, in sync with its February 23 release.

Produced by Frehley and Steve Brown, the project marks the guitarist’s first record since the 2020 covers set, “Origins Vol. 1”, and 2018's "Spaceman".

"It's probably the best record I've ever done," Frehley told Nuvo recently. "I'm very excited about it. It's the first time I ended up writing most of these songs with a good friend of mine, Steve Brown. He used to play in Trixter and now has a group called Rubix Kube."

The KISS icon launched the set with the title track, and follow-up singles “Walkin’ On The Moon” and “Cherry Medicine.”

Frehley will next be seen performing on the Monsters Of Rock Cruise in early March; hosted by Eddie Trunk, the event will see fans depart from Miami, FL aboard the Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas – with stops in Jamaica and the Bahamas – and feature appearances by Joe Satriani, Extreme, Queensryche and many more.

Ace Frehley is debuting a video for “Cherry Medicine”, the third single issued from his forthcoming release, “10,000 Volts.”

“This is one of my favorite tracks on the album,” says Frehley, “and we definitely had fun making the video! Hahahah!”

“Cherry Medicine” follows “Walkin’ On The Moon” and the title track as the latest preview to the set, which will be released on February 23.

Ace Frehley announces US tour

Ace Frehley has announced a new series of 2024 US dates as he prepares to launch his latest album, “10,000 Volts”, on February 23.

The series will begin with a three-show run in the US Midwest late this month, after which Frehley will appear on the Monsters Of Rock Cruise in early March, ahead of gigs along the US Northeast that are scheduled into April.

Produced by Frehley and Steve Brown, the project marks the guitarist’s first album since the 2020 covers set, “Origins Vol. 1”, and 2018's “Spaceman”.

"It's probably the best record I've ever done," Frehley told Nuvo recently. "I'm very excited about it. It's the first time I ended up writing most of these songs with a good friend of mine, Steve Brown. He used to play in Trixter and now has a group called Rubix Kube."

As for the tour, Frehley’s social media team say “Additional tour dates will be announced in the coming days!”

Ace Frehley has released a video for the title track to his newly-announced album, “10,000 Volts.”

Ace Frehley and Peter Criss reunite to perform KISS classics at Creatures Fest

Original KISS members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss reunited at Creatures Fest in Nashville, TN on May 27 to perform a pair of classic tracks from their former band, and video from the event has surfaced online.

After the first three songs of his set, Frehley welcomed Criss to the stage to handle lead vocals for the 1976 “Rock And Roll Over” hit, “Hard Luck Woman”, and to sit in on drums and vocals for the group’s 1974 “Hotter Than Hell” track, “Strange Ways.”

The weekend festival also featured performances by, among others, KISS alumni Vinnie Vincent and Bruce Kulick, with Criss joining Kulick during his set and both guitarists joining Vincent during his appearance.

Gene Simmons recently reiterated his public invitation to Frehley to perform with KISS on the band’s End Of The Road farewell tour.

"The invitations still stand,” tweeted Simmons in late April. “Jump up on stage with us for encores. The fans would love it."

The current KISS lineup sees guitarist Tommy Thayer perform using Frehley’s spaceman makeup and stage gear while longtime drummer Eric Singer appears in Criss’ cat makeup and stage persona.

Frehley reunited with KISS for the first time in 17 years during a fall 2018 acoustic performance on KISS Kruise 8, just two months before the classic rock group launched the farewell series in Vancouver, BC in early 2019; the band resume the trek with summer shows in Euope starting June 1 in Dortmund, Germany.

Ace Frehley livestreams Poughkeepsie concert

Ace Frehley live-streamed video of a March 5 concert performance from The Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY as part of a spring tour.

Filmed from the venue’s balcony, fans can watch footage of Frehley and his band run through a number of KISS classics, solo tunes, and covers of tracks by Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy and Mountain that appeared on the rocker’s “Origins” album series.

The Poughkeepsie footage follows an on-stage livestream on social media of a portion of a performance in Patchogue, NY on March 3.

The rocker will continue his tour this weeked with shows in Vernon, OH, Lawrenceburg, IN and Hazard, KY, with other dates scheduled for later this month before Frehley reteams with Alice Cooper for a three-show series on the US West Coast in April.

Frehley and the original members of KISS – Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and Peter Criss – were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2014.

Ace Frehley livestreams 1974 KISS classic from Long Island concert

Ace Frehley live-streamed on-stage video of a performance of the 1974 KISS classic, “Parasite”, during a March 3 concert at the Patchogue Theatre For The Performing Arts in Patchogue, NY.

The Frehley-written song from KISS’ second album, “Hotter Than Hell”, was one of three clips the guitarist streamed during the event, including show-opener “Rip It Out” (according to setlist.fm) – from the rocker’s self-titled 1978 solo debut – and his extended guitar solo.

Frehley – who toured with Alice Cooper last year – released his covers album, “Origins Vol, 2”, in 2020; the project featured new versions of songs by Deep Purple, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and more.

The original KISS guitarist’s most recent original studio record is 2018’s “Spaceman”, which featured a guest appearance by former bandmate Gene Simmons, who co-wrote two songs for the set.

Alice Cooper joined by Ace Frehley for 1972 classic School’s Out

Alice Cooper was joined by Ace Frehley for his 1972 classic, “School’s Out”, during a pair of concerts in Florida this week.

The pair hooked up to perform the iconic track during Cooper’s finale in West Palm Bach, Fl on October 10 and in Tampa, FL on October 11.

Frehley – who is currently on the road as the opening act for Cooper’s fall US tour – previously delivered “School’s Out” with the shock-rocker in Brisbane during an Australian trek in 2017.

Cooper is on the road in support of his 2021 album, “Detroit Stories”, while original KISS lead guitarist Frehley is performing behind his latest record, 2020’s “Origins Vol. 2”; the pair will wrap up their US series in Tupelo, MS on October 22

Alice Cooper announces US tour with Ace Frehley

Alice Cooper has announced dates for a fall US tour with special guest Ace Frehley.

Cooper will be hitting the road in sopport of his 2021 album, “Detroit Stories”; produced by Bob Ezrin, the project – which recently debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart – is billed as a modern-day homage to the rocker’s hometown and the city that launched the original Alice Cooper group.

Frehley will be promoting his 2020 covers album, “Origins Vol. 2”, which features songs originally recorded by Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Animals, Paul Revere And The Raiders and more.

The month-long US tour by the pair of rock veterans will kick off in Atlantic City on September 18 after Alice plays his own show the night beforer without the former KISS guitarist.

"We've always had fun touring together and it should be a heavy rock show with Ace and a great way to get everyone back to live concerts again," says Cooper. "It should be a great night of virtuoso guitars!"

"I've known Alice for over 30 years," adds Frehley. "We're good friends, and we've toured together numerous times and always had a blast. Our musical roots are very similar, and the combination of our two bands make for a great event that nobody is gonna want to miss. Being off the road for more than a year because of the pandemic has been tough on everyone in the music industry, and I'm really looking forward to seeing all of the fans happy, healthy, and ready to rock."

Pre-sale tickets are available Tuesday, May 18 at 10 a.m. local time, while venue and radio pre-sales are set for Wednesday, May 19 at 10 a.m. local time; general public tickets will go on sale Friday, May 21 at 10 a.m. local time.

Ace Frehley streams animated video for cover of Beatles classic

Ace Frehley is streaming an animated viudeo for his version of the 1965 Beatles classic, “I’m Down”, from his latest covers album, “Origins Vol. 2.”

The original KISS rocker is joined by Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 on the tune, which first appeared as the b-side to the single for the title song to the UK band’s film, “Help!”

“Origins Vol. 2” features eleven tracks, including songs originally recorded by Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Animals, Paul Revere And The Raiders and more.

In sync with the new video’s release, Frehley has announced a special limited-edition Christmas vinyl edition of the record; it’s now available in translucent ruby red and emerald green vinyl and available here.

Ace Frehley is streaming his version of the 1965 Beatles classic, “I’m Down”, as the latest preview to his forthcoming covers album, “Origins Vol. 2.”

The original KISS rocker is joined by Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 on the tune, which first appeared as the b-side to the single for the title song to the UK band’s film, “Help!”

The 2020 version follows Frehley’s take on Deep Purple’s “Space Truckin’” as the second song issued in advance of the September 18 release of the project, which serves as a sequel to the 2016 collection, “Origins Vol 1.”

“Origins Vol. 2” will feature eleven tracks, including songs originally recorded by Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Animals, Paul Revere And The Raiders and more.

"Pretty much the whole concept behind the album is redoing songs of bands that influenced me growing up," Ace told KATT Rock 100.5 in Oklahoma City recently, adding “Those guitar players taught me how to play, so nothing's too difficult for me to handle. I used to do their material when I played in club bands."

Ace Frehley releases cover of Deep Purple classic Space Truckin

Ace Frehley is streaming an animated video for his version of the 1972 Deep Purple classic, “Space Truckin’”, from the forthcoming covers album, “Origins Vol. 2.”

Recorded at The Creation Lab in Turlock, CA, Frehley recorded guitar, bass, and vocals on "Space Truckin'" with long-time studio drummer Matt Star and keyboard player Rob Sabino (Peter Frampton, Simon & Garfunkel).

“'Space Truckin' was recorded years ago, and then I just re-recorded some parts and changed it a little,” explains Frehley. “We never ended up putting it on a record, so it was just sitting around. It turned out very well. Rob Sabino is a very accomplished studio musician, and we actually grew up in the Bronx together, so we go way back.”

Due September 18, “Origins Vol. 2” will feature eleven tracks, including songs originally recorded by Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Animals, Paul Revere And The Raiders and more.

The project is the sequel to Frehley’s 2016 collection, “Origins Vol 1.”
