Rolling Stones and Aerosmith members added to Jeff Beck tribute concerts

Members of The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith have been added to the lineup for the Jeff Beck tribute concerts in London next month.

Ronnie Wood – an original member of The Jeff Beck Group – and Joe Perry of Aerosmith will join an all-star cast at the sold-out Royal Albert Hall on May 22 and 23 to honor the late guitarist, who passed away on January 10 at the age of 78 after suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis.

In association with Sandra Beck and The Jeff Beck Estate, “A Tribute To Jeff Beck With Eric Clapton & Friends” will see members of the Jeff Beck Band (Rhonda Smith, Anika Nilles and Robert Stevenson) joined by an extensive list of artists, including Doyle Bramhall II, Gary Clark Jr, Johnny Depp, Billy F Gibbons, Imelda May, John McLaughlin, Robert Randolph, Olivia Safe, Rod Stewart, Joss Stone, and the Tedeschi Trucks Band.

A full list of artists will be finalized near the date of the performances.

Beck rose to prominence in 1965 when he joined The Yardbirds as a replacement for Clapton, and briefly performed alongside Jimmy Page in the lineup before being fired during a US tour.

Jeff Beck dead at 78

Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck died on January 10 at the age of 78.

“On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing,” shared his social media team on Wednesday. “After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.”

Born in Wallington, UK in 1944, Beck discovered his love of guitar as a youngster and went on to play in a number of bands while in art school in the early 1960s. Beck rose to prominence in 1965 when he joined The Yardbirds as a replacement for Eric Clapton, and briefly performed alongside Jimmy Page in the lineup before being fired during a US tour.

Beck released his solo debut, “Truth”, in 1968, mixing blues and hard rock with vocalist Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood on bass; three more albums under The Jeff Beck Group banner followed before the guitarist teamed up with Vanilla Fudge bassist Tim Bogert and drummer Carmine Appice for an album in 1973 and he scored more success with his second solo release, 1975’s “Blow By Blow”, which included contributions by Stevie Wonder and reached the US Top 5.

The guitarist would go on to release albums regularly throughout his career, up to and including “18”, his 2022 collaboration with Johnny Depp; he recorded with a variety of artists through the years, including Wonder, Roger Waters, Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Kate Bush, Joe Cocker, Ozzy Osbourne and ZZ Top, among many others.

In addition to winning 8 Grammy Awards, Beck was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice: as a member of The Yardbirds in 1992 and as a solo artist in 2009.

Jeff Beck issues lyric video for new single Live In The Dark

photo: Ross Halfin

Jeff Beck has issued a lyric video for “Live In The Dark”, the lead single from his forthcoming album, “Loud Hailer.”

The tune features vocals by London singer Rosie Bones, who Beck met through a chance meeting last year with guitarist Carmen Vandenberg at a birthday party for Queen drummer Roger Taylor that led to the trio’s collaboration.

"She [Vandenberg] invited me to one of their shows, and I was blown away," recalls Beck. "When we got together in January, I explained the subject matter I had in mind, we sat down by the fire with a crate of Prosecco and got right to it. The songs came together very quickly; five in three days."

Bones handles vocals on nine of the 11 songs on the set, which is rounded out by a pair of signature Beck instrumentals: “Pull It” and “Edna.”

Due July 15, “Loud Hailer” sees Beck produce his first record in six years alongside Filippo Cimatti, with bassist Giovanni Pallotti and drummer Davide Sollazzi filling out the lineup.

Beck will launch the project a series of summer US dates at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY on July 19.

Jeff Beck details new album Loud Hailer

Jeff Beck has unveiled the tracklisting and cover art for his forthcoming album, “Loud Hailer.”

Due July 15 on CD, digital and vinyl, the guitarist produced his first record in six years with Filippo Cimatti.

Beck says Loud Hailer – another name for a megaphone – is the right title for his latest studio recording.

“I really wanted to make a statement about some of the nasty things I see going on in the world today,” he explains, “and I loved the idea of being at a rally and using this loud device to shout my point of view.”

The set sees Beck teamed with singer Rosie Bones, guitarist Carmen Vandenberg, bassist Giovanni Pallotti and drummer Davide Sollazzi.

Bones handles vocals on nine of the 11 songs on “Loud Hailer”, which is rounded out by a pair of signature Beck instrumentals: “Pull It” and “Edna.”

The album’s first single, “Live In The Dark”, will be issued soon.

Beck will launch a series of summer US dates at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY on July 19.

ZZ Top to resume tour with Jeff Beck next year

ZZ Top have announced that they will resume their US tour dates with Jeff Beck next year while bassist Dusty Hill recovers from a recent hip injury.

"Dusty's well-being is paramount,” said the band.

Hill continues to recover and the rocker is now doing physio in expectation of a complete recovery.

The band’s management is now booking and re-scheduling an extensive run of dates starting early next year.

“We’re looking forward to getting out there and rockin’ it with Dusty in a big way...100%,” bandmates Billy F Gibbons and Frank Beard, commented. Dusty's usual upbeat wit was very much in evidence as he added that he'd like to see Slim Harpo’s classic "Hip Shake" added to the band's repertoire.

ZZ Top and Jeff Beck suspend tour following injury

ZZ Top and Jeff Beck have suspended their remaining tour dates, effective immediately, following an injury to bassist Dusty Hill.

Hill slipped and fell on his hip while aboard his tour bus Tuesday night; as a result of his injury, which requires immediate attention, ZZ Top performance dates have been temporarily suspended while he recovers.

The first show affected by the news is Wednesday (tonight) at DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan, just outside of Detroit.

Jeff Beck and his band will perform the next three scheduled dates without ZZ Top:

Aug 29 ... Seneca Allegany Casino - Salamanca, NY
Aug 30 ... The Concert Venue @ Harrah’s - Atlantic City, NJ
Aug 31 ... MGM Grand Theater @ Foxwoods - Mashantucket, CT

Ticket holders for the following dates should retain their tickets pending the possibility of rescheduling these concerts:

Sep 06 ... Verizon Wireless Amphitheater - Alpharetta, GA
Sep 07 ... St. Augustine Amphitheater - St. Augustine, FL
Sep 09 ... Cruzan Amphitheater - West Palm Beach, FL
Sep 10 ... Midflorida Credit Union Amphitheater - Tampa, FL
Sep 12 ... Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - The Woodlands, TX
Sep 13 ... Winstar Casino - Thackerville, OK

“While we are very disappointed to not continue this tour with ZZ Top,” said Jeff Beck, “our thoughts and best wishes are for Dusty to have a speedy recovery.”

It’s the second health issue Hill has faced recently; last month, ZZ Top were forced to postpone the start of their summer US tour following news that the bassist had to undergo immediate surgery to remove two kidney stones.

ZZ Top recently released two projects: a greatest hits package entitled “The Very Baddest Of ZZ Top”, as well as a concert DVD, “Live At Montreux 2013.”

VIDEO: ZZ Top and Jeff Beck jam on opening night of US tour

ZZ Top and Jeff Beck teamed up to jam on Friday in Missoula, Montana on the opening night of the pair’s summer US tour, and fan-filmed video from the show is available.

The Texas rockers brought Beck out for their encores, which included an extended jam on their classics “La Grange” and “Tush”, as well as a cover of the Elvis Presley hit, “Jailhouse Rock.”

Last month, ZZ Top announced that they were forced to postpone the start of their summer tour following news that bassist Dusty Hill had to undergo surgery to remove two kidney stones.

The band issued a statement the kidney stones were discovered in the course of a routine physical examination where Hill’s doctor advised him that they should immediately be removed before they cause more serious problems down the line.

Hill was expected to make a full recovery following two weeks of recuperation.

As a result, ZZ Top kicked off their summer US tour on August 6 in Sturgis, SD before teaming up with Beck in Missoula for a series of shows running into mid-September.

ZZ Top and Jeff Beck have expanded their summer tour of North America.

The pair have added 7 new dates to the run, including stops in Tucson, Albuqurque, Salamanca, Atlantic City, West Palm Beach, Tampa and Thackerville, OK.

The shows, which begin August 8 in Missoula, Montana, will see Beck perform a full set followed by one from the Texas trio, and close with a jam from both acts.

Last month, Beck cancelled his European summer tour dates after seeking immediate medical attention and undergoing an unidentified hospital procedure requiring six weeks of rest.

"It is with the greatest regret that Jeff Beck has been forced to cancel the forthcoming European dates of his worldwide tour, set to begin in Austria on 27 June," posted the rocker’s team on his social media sites. "Following many months of international touring and after seeking emergency medical attention, Jeff will now undertake a short hospital procedure and his doctors have instructed a complete break from performance for a total of six weeks. Following the treatment, Jeff will fulfill his US tour commitments beginning in Missoula MT on 8th August.”

"He sends his profound apologies to those fans who had bought tickets for the European concerts,” continued the statement, “and very much looks forward to playing for his American audiences after he has completed his treatment."

The Stones were joined at London’s 02 Arena by former bandmates Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor, as well as guitar icon Jeff Beck and R&B superstar Mary J. Blige.

Beck jammed with the Stones on "I'm Going Down," a song taken from the group’s 1975 album, "Metamorphosis."

Mick Jagger rocked the season finale of Saturday Night Live over the weekend.

The Stones frontman proved to be very adept at comedy, having fun with his opening monologue and participating in several skits.

The musical highlights were many, and they started with Jagger joining Arcade Fire for “The Last Time.”

Midway through the program, things kicked into musical overdrive when the Foo Fighters jammed some thundering versions of a couple of Stones classics, including “19th Nervous Breakdown” and “It’s Only Rock N’ Roll (But I Like It).”

Late in the episode, Jeff Beck sat in with Mick for a 2012 US election blues number, with Beck wailing on his six-string.

The White House was blue Tuesday as music legends jammed during an event hosted by President and Mrs. Obama.

The occasion was the taping of “In Performance at the White House: Red, White and Blues,” an evening designed to pay homage to the great figures of the Blues and the songs they made famous by tracing the influence of the Blues on modern American music from soul to rock'n'roll.

The special concert honors the musical form that sprang from the Mississippi Delta and flourished in the Westside of Chicago.

“In Performance at the White House: Red, White and Blues” airs on PBS next Monday, February 27 at 9PM ET.

Here’s a preview clip featuring Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, Gary Clark Jr., and Mick Jagger performing "Five Long Years.”

Jeff Beck receives Honorary Doctor Of Music degree

Rockers are being honored with degrees all over the UK this summer.

First it was Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson (Queen Mary University, London), then former Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord (University Of Leicester), and now Jeff Beck has been added to the list.

All three musicians have received Honorary Doctor Of Music degrees, with Beck picking his up at the University of Sussex.

Your Local Guardian reports Beck, who was born in Wallington and lived on Demesne Road, spent his early years singing in a church choir before going on to form The Rumbles in neighboring Croydon.

The six-time Grammy award winner. who shot to fame as a part of 60's brit-rockers The Yardbirds. is one of the few musicians to appear in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice.

Beck, 67, becomes a Doctor of Music at the University following a nomination from the Brighton Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) with whom he has been working closely with in recent years.

He received his award from university's Chancellor, the comedian and actor Sanjeev Bhaskar (pictured above), before telling graduates: "If you dream of something you really like to do then I suggest you follow it. It's not about the money. It might be as elusive as the rainbow. Just stick with your dream even if it's not as rewarding financially."

VIDEO: Jeff Beck rocks The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

After bailing on an American Idol appearance on Wednesday, Jeff Beck made it to the TV airwaves this week, after all, with a performance on The Tonight Show.

Beck was scheduled to play songs with each of the top 9 Idol finalists, but his publicist said Jeff cancelled because there wasn’t enough rehearsal time.

No such issue for The Tonight Show, as Jeff and the Imelda May Band have been out on a short US tour in support of his new DVD, "Jeff Beck: Rock ‘N’ Roll Party Honoring Les Paul."

The band played a cool version of The Shangri-Las' 1964 classic, "(Remember) Walking In The Sand," which appears on the “Rock ‘N’ Roll Party” DVD.
