Black Sabbath and Slipknot announce Ozzfest Meets Knotfest weekend
Ozzy Osbourne’s Ozzfest and Slipknot’s Knotfest are joining forces for a full metal festival weekend this fall.
“Ozzfest Meets Knotfest” will see both acts combine their respective events at San Manuel Amphitheater and Festival Grounds in San Bernardino, CA on Saturday, September 24 (Ozzfest) and Sunday, September 25 (Knotfest).
Saturday's Ozzfest will be headlined by Black Sabbath - marking their last Southern California performance as part of the band's final tour - and Sunday's Knotfest bill is topped by the festival's namesake, Slipknot.
"We are here to create havoc and history," says Ozzy. "Let the madness begin..."
"This could be the one of the coolest things I've ever been a part of," adds Corey Taylor of Slipknot. "Starting out as an Ozzfest band, coming into our own with Knotfest and now combining forces to make a little metal history...it was meant to be and I'm proud to be a part of it."
Lineups for both events can be found below.
Ozzfest is celebrating its 20th anniversary while Slipknot debuted Knotfest in 2012.
The San Manuel Amphitheater and Festival Grounds is where Ozzfest - the event that launched the U.S. hard rock festival market and went on to tour the world - began in 1996 and where Knotfest last year took over the San Bernardino, CA venue and expanded into a camping festival. There's also a longtime history between the two namesakes of the events, with Slipknot appearing at Ozzfest in 1999, 2001, 2004, 2005 and 2013 at the inaugural Ozzfest Japan.
Tickets for Ozzfest Meets Knotfest will go on sale Friday, May 20 at 10:00 AM (PT) at Ozzfest.com and Knotfest.com.
An artist pre-sale runs Friday, May 13 to Monday, May 16 at 10 PM (PT) – password is OZZKNOT.
Additional details on camping and ticketing options can be found at Ozzfest.com and Knotfest.com.

AUDIO: Corey Taylor covers Rainbow In The Dark for Ronnie James Dio tribute album
Slipknot/Stone Sour vocalist Corey Taylor recorded “Rainbow In The Dark” for the forthcoming Ronnie James Dio tribute album, “This Is Your Life” (due April 1), and the song is now available for streaming.
Taylor is joined by Steel Panther guitarist Satchel, Stone Sour drummer Roy Mayorga, and touring buddies Jason Christopher and Christian Martucci for the classic tune, which was originally featured on 1983’s “Holy Diver.”
“Ronnie was the most natural singer I have ever witnessed,” says Taylor. “He could do anything, hit any note, make any audience lose their minds. He was one of the greatest and I’m so happy I got to see him live. ‘Rainbow in the Dark’ was the first Dio song I really loved to death – just a powerful, high-energy hard rock song that was so good I wished I’d written it. When I was asked to be a part of this album, I knew there was only one track I wanted to record and luckily I got it. I only hope I did it justice. Having had the privilege of meeting Ronnie before he passed, I hope he knows how much I loved him for who and what he was: One of the greatest.”
In addition to Taylor, “This Is Your Life” features newly-recorded covers of the singer’s work with Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio by Metallica, Motorhead, the Scorpions, Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Tenacious D, Anthrax, Halestorm and others.
Proceeds from “This Is Your Life” will benefit The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund, co-founded by Wendy Dio. The charity is dedicated to supporting cancer-prevention research, raising awareness and educating the public about the vital importance of early detection and prevention when dealing with this deadly disease.
Dio died of stomach cancer on May 16, 2010 at the age of 67.

VIDEO: Dave Grohl & Corey Taylor talk Sound City
Dave Grohl is making the rounds promoting his directorial debut, Sound City.
The film, which premiered last week at Sundance, chronicles the story of the Van Nuys, California studio of the same name, where music legends recorded major projects throughout the years – including Nirvana’s 1991 smash, “Nevermind.”
Grohl has issued “From Can To Can’t” as the new single from the forthcoming soundtrack; the tune features Slipknot/Stone Sour’s Corey Taylor on lead vocals, Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen on guitar, and Kyuss’ Scott Reeder on bass.
Last week, Grohl and Taylor stopped by KROQ Los Angeles to plug the track and film by sitting in on the morning radio program "The Kevin & Bean Show".
A series of one-night only theatrical screenings for Sound City will hit theaters starting January 31; for a full list of screenings, click here.

Sound City: Dave Grohl releases From Can To Can’t ft. Corey Taylor
Dave Grohl has issued “From Can To Can’t” as the new single from the forthcoming soundtrack to his film, Sound City.
The tune features Slipknot/Stone Sour’s Corey Taylor on lead vocals, Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen on guitar, and Kyuss’ Scott Reeder on bass.
The song follows the lead track, “Cut Me Some Slack,” with Paul McCartney and former Nirvana bandmantes Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear joining Grohl on drums.
Sound City chronicles the story of the Van Nuys, California studio of the same name, where music legends recorded major projects throughout the years – including Nirvana’s 1991 smash, “Nevermind.”
Through interviews with the artists and producers that created decades of musical history at Sound City, the film will showcase the amazing history of the studio, focus on the albums recorded there that went on to change the world, discuss the human element of music in an age of technology, and feature performances from many of the artists that called it "home".
The first album produced at Sound City was Neil Young’s 1970 release, “After The Gold Rush.”
The studio closed in the spring of 2011.
Sound City is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Friday; the same night, Grohl is putting on a live show featuring collection of musicians who performed on the film’s soundtrack.

VIDEO: Corey Taylor goes acoustic at ZZ Top fest
Last weekend, ZZ Top staged their first annual La Grange Fest in Austin, Texas.
Tagging along with the bearded ones were Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jamey Johnson and Corey Taylor, as the lineup played The Backyard, in a city famous for its music.
The Skynyrd connection with ZZ is fairly obvious, given the band’s shared histories; Jamey Johnson is one of the contributors to the just-released “A Tribute From Friends,” the album of ZZ Top cover songs by a slew of the band's admirers – Johnson covers “La Grange,” with a guest appearance by ZZ’s Billy Gibbons on the track.
As singer for both Stone Sour and Slipknot, Corey Taylor seemed like the odd man out on the bill, but fan reports suggest he did a stand up job. Taylor has been out performing solo acoustic shows in support of his recent book, “Seven Deadly Sins,” and will be doing a full North American solo tour this fall, starting November 14 in Anaheim, CA.
For more details on that tour, click here.
"I really can't say how excited I am to be sharing the stage with Skynyrd and ZZ Top!" said Taylor before the show. "Just from a fan's point of view, I can't wait to see these bands. I'm trying to figure out what I can bring to the table, but I'll do my very best. And of course, it's always good to be back in Texas!!"
A few fan-shot videos from Austin have surfaced…both are Stone Sour tracks with Taylor sounding in fine voice.

Corey Taylor announces North American solo tour
On the heels of slammin’ Rock In Rio – not once, but twice – with both Stone Sour and Slipknot, singer Corey Taylor has announced a North American solo tour for this fall.
"An Evening with Corey Taylor" concerts will feature Corey performing an acoustic set along with a spoken word segment, and he'll also answer questions with a fan Q&A.
Taylor’s memoir, “Seven Deadly Sins - Settling The Argument Between Born Bad And Damaged Good," has been out for a few months and he has just released the audio version of it.
“I’d been threatening to write a book for a long time, and I just went for it,” he declares. “I think people are going to be really surprised, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
The book is billed as Taylor speaking directly to his fans and sharing “his worldview about life as a sinner. And Taylor knows how to sin. As a small-town hero in the early '90s, he threw himself into a fierce-drinking, drug-abusing, hard-loving, live-for-the moment life. Soon Taylor's music exploded, and he found himself rich, wanted, and on the road. His new and ever-more extreme lifestyle had an unexpected effect, however; for the first time, he began to actively think about what it meant to sin and whether sinning could--or should--be recast in a different light.”

Slipknot performed during the opening weekend of this year’s Rock In Rio 4 festival, on September 25.
The band played a bill headlined by Metallica, alongside Motorhead, Coheed And Cambria, and Brazilian rockers Gloria.
Slipknot guitarist Jim Root was interviewed after the Rio show, and shared his thoughts on the performance.
“It’s always a treat when we get to come to a place that’s still new to us, and we don’t get to come to very often,” said Root. “Tonight was a very, very magical show and, since we lost [bassist] Paul [Gray], every show we do here on out is in honor of Paul.”

Corey Taylor undergoes eye surgery
I bet Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor had a different weekend than most: the rocker underwent corrective eye surgery on Sunday.
“My procedure went EXCELLENT and I am now equipped with 20/10 vision!,” posted Taylor. “Thank you Dr. Rothman! And thanks to Lasik of Nevada!! X-ray vision!!!”
The new, improved vision will come in handy for Taylor, who always seems to be juggling bands and projects.
In addition to his Slipknot and Stone Sour duties, Taylor has hooked up with Duff McKagan to work on writing some songs together.
Taylor was part of the Velvet Revolver audition process last year, and even recorded an album’s worth of material with the band, according to drummer Matt Sorum. It was Slash who vetoed Corey as the possible replacement for Scott Weiland, who left the band in April of 2008.
"I'm not singing with Velvet Revolver," Taylor said during an interview on Fuse TV's Hoppus on Music. "We were doing some writing and doing some jamming and what-not, but it just seemed like there were different ideas as to what they wanted to do. And it was completely mutual; it was all good. I just love the fact that I got to hang out with people I grew up listening to."
So no VR, but the door remains open for other projects to materialize.
"Me and Duff McKagan will probably do some stuff later,” said Taylor. “Me and him, we really hit it off, and we're really close, and we started writing songs together, and we've got some really good stuff. So, you never know. There might be a mystery supergroup out there - me and Duff and some other weird people - making some weird music that people are, like, 'What?! That's them?!' So, yeah, maybe. We'll see what happens."
Taylor recently released his autobiography, “Seven Deadly Sins.”
