No Van Halen on Grammy nominations special

Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy, and Grammy Nominations Executive Producer Ken Ehrlich have some explaining to do.

The Grammys teased music fans that Van Halen would be appearing on its sponsor-motivated Nominations Special Wednesday, and the band failed to materialize.

Here’s the Grammys' tweet of November 3:

Rumors have been swirling that VH would confirm something on the broadcast: their new record deal, their appearance on the Grammys next February, a name and/or release date for a single or new album….even details of a pending world tour.

Listen…given that it’s VH we’re talking about here, anything is possible, as the band has a history of public relations train wrecks throughout their career.

The only piece of information we know for sure, in this situation, is that The Grammys promoted VH as a part of their product. Band representatives did not confirm or deny anything regarding the appearance, and neither did the team at new label Interscope Records.

All that said, with their November 3rd tweet, the Grammys committed themselves to delivering VH for their special on Wednesday.

Neil, Ken and the Grammys need to step up, take responsibility and explain the motives and actions behind their messenging versus what the Grammy brand actually delivered.

So…what happened, Neil and Ken??
