Van Halen top the hennemusic Hot 10

A chance encounter with Nuno Bettencourt in an L.A. recording studio earlier this year puts Eddie Van Halen at the top of this week’s hennemusic Hot 10.

Nuno wrote a piece for rock photographer Neil Zlozower’s upcoming book, “Eddie Van Halen,” where the Extreme guitarist (currently touring with Rihanna) recounts the details of running into his childhood guitar hero while both were working in the same studio complex.

Bettencourt noted how nervous Eddie was about the band’s new album, their first with David Lee Roth in more than 25 years. Check out the story for all the details.

The propaganda machine that is Gene Simmons had a big week with the finale of his reality series setting up a cliffhanger ending: at #2, Gene finally proposes to longtime companion Shannon Tweed, and viewers are left to wait until next season to find out what happened.

Beyond the soap opera nonsense here, there may be one thing Simmons hasn’t fully thought through: if Gene is actually getting married, he probably won’t be after the bachelor party to end all bachelor parties happens…if you believe any of the myths and legends Gene’s tried to base his life on, that is.

#3 on the HH10 is new music from ZZ Top. “Flyin’ High’" is the first single from the band’s forthcoming album produced by Rick Rubin – release date TBA.

Other big news for hennemusic readers this week included more new footage of Aerosmith in the studio (#5), as they work on their first new album in a decade; U2 paying tribute to singer Amy Winehouse, just hours after her passing (#6), and Slash rocks Disney with some Phineas and Ferb action (#10).
