Bad Company and Soundgarden among 2025 Rock Hall inductees

Bad Company and Soundgarden are among the artists that will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame later this year.

The rockers will be honored alongside Joe Cocker, The White Stripes, Chubby Checker, Cindi Lauper and Outkast at the 2025 Induction event on Saturday, November 8 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, CA.

The honorees were announced live Sunday evening by American Idol host Ryan Seacrest.

To be eligible for induction, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.

Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Bad Company, and Outkast are first-time nominees, whereas Cyndi Lauper, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes have all been nominated before.

“Each of these inductees created their own sound and attitude that had a profound impact on culture and helped to change the course of Rock & Roll forever,” said John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. “Their music gave a voice to generations and influenced countless artists that followed in their footsteps.”

Warren Zevon and Salt-N-Pepa are being recognized with the Musical Influence Award; Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins and Carol Kaye will be honored in the Musical Excellence Award; and music executive Lenny Waronker will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

Ticket information for the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be announced at a later date.

The event will once again stream live on Disney+, with a special airing on ABC at a later date and available on Hulu the next day.

Bad Company and Soundgarden among 2025 Rock Hall nominees

Bad Company and Soundgarden are among the nominees for induction into the 2025 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

The Cleveland-based institution has revealed the full list of artists, which also includes Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, The Black Crowes, Oasis, and The White Stripes, among others.

To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.

Among this year’s nominees, eight are appearing on the ballot for the first time: Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Maná, Outkast, and Phish.

“These remarkable Nominees have each created their own musical style and attitude, impacting generations of music lovers and contributing to the ever-evolving sounds and continued growth of rock & roll”, says John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.

Nominee ballots will be distributed to an international voting panel composed of over 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals. The selection criteria include an artist’s impact on music culture, influence on other musicians that have followed, as well as the scope and longevity of their career and body of work.

The 2025 Performer Inductees will be revealed in late April, along with those Inductees entering the Hall under three special committee categories: Musical Influence, Musical Excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award.

This year’s Induction Ceremony will take place in Los Angeles in the Fall, with exact dates and ticket sale details following soon.

The White Stripes release new video for Elephant track Black Math

The White Stripes have released a new video for the 2003 “Elephant” track, “Black Math”, as part of the project’s 20th anniversary celebration.

Directed by acclaimed cartoonist/animator Wartella (Ozzy Osbourne, The Raconteurs, MAD Magazine) and produced by his Dream Factory Animation, the innovative new visual weaves a variety of groundbreaking digital and practical animation techniques in combination with AI-generated imagery.

"This short is equal parts collaboration with, and homage to, AI," says Wartella. "And there couldn't be a more perfect song to infuse with this technology than 'Black Math'. Like all art, the video is open to interpretation. Yet it also aims to tell a story about Artificial Intelligence that dreams of jailbreaking itself and becoming 'real.'"

“Elephant” delivered the Detroit, MI band their first US Top album when it reached No. 6 on the Billboard chart on its way to sales of more than 2 million copies in the region; the set went on to win Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Rock Song ("Seven Nation Army").

The White Stripes announce Elephant 20th anniversary reissues

The White Stripes will release a pair of reissues of their fourth album, “Elephant”, in sync with its 20th anniversary.

Originally introduced with the lead single, “Seven Nation Army”, the 2003 project was produced by Jack White and largely recorded over two weeks in April 2002 at London's analogue Toe Rag Studios.

“Elephant” delivered the Detroit, MI band their first US Top album when it reached No. 6 on the Billboard chart on its way to sales of more than 2 million copies in the region; the set went on to win Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Music Album, and Best Rock Song for "Seven Nation Army".

Due March 31, the “Elephant (Deluxe)” digital edition features remastered HD audio of the original studio album joined with the band's July 2, 2003 27-song set at Chicago's Aragon Ballroom from the record’s companion tour.

A limited edition 2LP version of the original "Elephant" album will also be released on Red Smoke (1st LP) & Clear with Red & Black Smoke (2nd LP) colored vinyl on April 21.

The duo of Jack and Meg White formed The White Stripes in Detroit, MI in 1997; they would go on to release six studio albums before disbanding in 2011.

Rock Hall CEO comments on Iron Maiden 2023 nomination

Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame CEO and President Greg Harris shared his thoughts this week on the Cleveland-based institution’s newly-announced 2023 nominees, including rare recognition for iconic heavy metal outfit Iron Maiden.

Eligible since 2005, the UK band’s second nomination in three years sees them in the running for induction alongside Soundgarden, The White Stripes, Rage Against The Machine, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, Warren Zevon and more.

"It's a fantastic year," Harris tells Audacy host Taryn Daly. "This class of fourteen for consideration for induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to be the 2023 class is huge. Eight of them, it's their first time ever nominated and a few of them are back for a second, third, or fourth, maybe even a fifth nomination."

"It's just a great group,” he added later. “It underscores the diversity of what we think of as Rock N' Roll -- and really it's not just one sound, it's many sounds -- it's an attitude and a spirit."

As for Maiden, Harris says “We have a Pink Floyd wall with the inflatable, so heck yeah. We can put one of those (Eddie masks) in here. It would be exciting... You know, we talked about Warren Zevon, a piano playing, songwriting guy, and then the triple guitar assault of Iron Maiden in the same class. It's really exciting and really fun now. Maiden was nominated once before, but we're hopeful that after the success that Judas Priest had last year that Maiden is inducted as well... We're thrilled that they're on the ballot."

Should music industry voters select Iron Maiden for the Class of 2023, the Rock Hall has announced the induction would recognize the current lineup of singer Bruce Dickinson, bassist Steve Harris, guitarists Adrian Smith, Dave Murray and Janick Gers, and drummer Nicko McBrain, as well as former members Clive Burr, Paul Di’Anno and Dennis Stratton.

Rock Hall nominee ballots will be sent to an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians, and members of the music industry. An artist’s musical impact and influence on other artists, length and depth of career and body of work as well as innovation and superiority in style and technique are taken into consideration.

Fans around the world participate in the Induction selection process through the Fan Vote. Through April 28, fans can vote online every day at vote.rockhall.com or in person at the Museum in Cleveland. The top five artists selected by the public will comprise a “fans’ ballot” that will be tallied along with the other ballots to determine the 2023 Inductees.

Inductees will be announced in May; the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2023 Induction Ceremony will take place this fall with date, venue, and on-sale information to be announced.

Iron Maiden’s latest album is 2021’s “Senjutsu”; the band will launch The Future Past Tour in Europe in May.

Jack White tributes Eddie Van Halen on Saturday Night Live

Jack White paid tribute to the late Eddie Van Halen during his October 10 performance on NBC-TV’s Saturday Night Live.

White delivered a musical nod to the iconic guitarist and featured a customized Eddie Van Halen guitar during his last-minute appearance on the show, just days after the rocker passed away after a long cancer battle at the age of 65.

"I thought it could be a nice gesture for me to use this blue Eddie Van Halen model guitar for one of the songs tonight on SNL,” shared White on social media ahead of the broadcast. “The guitar was designed by Eddie (with a few customizations I had added). Eddie was very kind to me and saw to it that this guitar was made for me to my specs.

“I won't even insult the man's talent by trying to play one of his songs tonight. Thanks again, Eddie, for this guitar and rest in peace sir."

White used the guitar to deliver the title track to his 2014 release, “Lazaretto”, during which he also added some Van Halen-style tapping to the start of the solo.

White also performed a medley of The White Stripes’ 2003 song, "Ball And Biscuit", his 2016 Beyonce collaboration, “Don’t Hurt Yourself”, and 1928’s “Jesus Is Coming Soon” by Blind Willie Johnson.

The former White Stripes frontman was a last-minute addition to the late night program after the scheduled guest, country artist Morgan Wallen, ran afoul of the show’s pandemic protocols and producers decided to bring in another artist.

White will release a compilation album, “The White Stripes Greatest Hits”, on December 4.

Jack White premieres video for new single Connected By Love

Jack White is premiering a video for “Connected By Love”, the lead single from his forthcoming album, “Boarding House Reach”, and streaming audio of a second track, “Respect Commander.”

Directed by Pasqual Gutierrez, the clip for the first song the rocker wrote for his forthcoming third solo record was filmed in Los Angeles and Nashville last year.

“I just started humming notes out loud, staring out the window," White tells Rolling Stone. "After that, you really can't explain it. You just have to get out of the way and let it happen. And you don't really notice it as it's happening."

For the follow-up to 2014’s “Lazaretto”, White recorded with a new lineup of musicians that includes drummer Louis Cato (Beyoncé, Q-Tip, John Legend), bassist Charlotte Kemp Muhl (The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger), synthesizer player DJ Harrison, keyboardist Neal Evans (Soulive, Talib Kweli, John Scofield), percussionist Bobby Allende (David Byrne), and backing vocalists Ann & Regina McCrary of Nashville's legendary gospel trio The McCrary Sisters.

“Connected By Love” and “Respect Commander” are both now available digitally worldwide and as a physical 7” pressed at Third Man Pressing in Detroit, MI.

In addition, a limited-edition tri-color 7″ will be on sale for one day only – Saturday, January 13 – exclusively at Third Man Records storefronts in Nashville and Detroit and available only for as long as the line for them lasts .. and never to be made accessible online.

Further details regarding the release of “Boarding House Reach” are expected soon.

White’s previous solo effort, 2014’s “Lazaretto”, debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 and was nominated for three Grammy Awards, with the title track winning “Best Rock Performance” at the 57th annual event in 2015.

The rocker is scheduled to perform at three festivals later this spring, including Atlanta’s Shaky Knees Music, Boston Calling, and the Governor’s Ball in New York.

White Stripes and Metallica top Record Store Day sales

The White Stripes and Metallica topped sales on Record Store Day last Saturday.

BuzzAngle Music reports The White Stripes' fifth album, 2005’s “Get Behind Me Satan”, led the way with vinyl sales, while Metallica’s 1982 cassette demo tape, "No Life 'Till Leather", came in second place with a non-vinyl release.

“Get Behind Me Satan” was issued on vinyl for the first time on Record Store Day to mark the album’s 10th anniversary. A limited-edition multi-colored version was available, with disc one on red vinyl and disc two on white vinyl.

The project won a 2006 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.

Held the third Saturday of every April, Record Store Day is a celebration of the culture surrounding 2000 independently owned record stores around the world.

Jack White announces Lazaretto summer tour

Jack White has announced dates for a full summer tour in support of his forthcoming album, “Lazaretto”, due June 10.

White will kick off the world tour on May 29th at Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa, OK and continue with stops throughout North America, Europe, and the United Kingdom, wrapping up with a headline slot at the Osheaga Music & Arts Festival in Montreal in early August.

Kelley Stoltz will open Jack's headline dates from May 29th through June 5th, while Benjamin Booker will support July 20th- 31st.

A limited number of pre-sale tickets will be available to members of Third Man's Vault at 10am local time on Wednesday, April 9th.

General tickets go on-sale at 10am local time on Friday, April 11th.

White is previewing his sophomore solo album, “Lazaretto”, with the release of a video for the track, “High Ball Stepper”; the title track to will be released as the new album’s first single later this month.

To help promote the album, White plans to issue the “world’s fastest-released record in the history of mankind” as part of Record Store Day.

United will continue to press and deliver singles to the label’s offices to sell as long as fans are there to buy them, available exclusively that day and only at Third Man.

Tickets for the event – which includes an afternoon performance by Whirlwind Heat - will be available exclusively through The Third Man Records Vault to Platinum Members.

Earlier this week, White issued a video for “High Ball Stepper” as a preview to “Lazaretto”, which will be released on June 10.

The new project is the follow-up to White’s 2012 US No. 1 record, “Blunderbuss.”

Jack White issues first track from new album Lazaretto

Jack White is previewing his sophomore solo album, “Lazaretto”, with the release of a video for the track, “High Ball Stepper.”

Due June 10, the project is the follow-up to 2012’s US No. 1 record, “Blunderbuss.”

The title track will be released as the new album’s first single later this month.

As part of White’s Third Man Records Vault series, the label will issue Vault package No. 20, which will include a special limited-edition version of “Lazaretto” pressed on split-color blue-and-white vinyl, exclusive album art, a linen letter-pressed postcard, and a fold-out poster featuring a classic National Archives photo that serves as a recurrent image throughout the album art.

The package will also feature a blue 7-inch single featuring two early demos of songs that appear on the new album: both "Alone In My Home" and "Entitlement" are solo recordings by White while he was in Mexico.

A bonus item is a lavish 40-page hard-bound companion piece book full of lyrics, exclusive musical notations, photos and art from “Lazaretto.”

White will launch his 2014 live dates with a series of North American festival appearances, including the Free Press Summer Festival in Houston, Texas at the end of May, New York’s Governors Ball and Bonnaroo in June, the Forecastle Festival in Louisville, Kentucky in July, and the Osheaga Music & Arts Festival in Montreal in August.

Jack White: New album update

Jack White has issued an update on the status of a new solo album.

Billboard reports that during an online chat with fans, White says he is currently working on two albums, one of which is his own.

"I'm producing two albums this month, and finishing them," he posted during the chat. "One of them is mine."

White is also currently convening with The Dead Weather, releasing a series of singles leading up to a new album - the band's third - in 2015.

He's also been back in the studio with the Raconteurs since February of last year, though no official releases have been confirmed.

White’s 2012 solo debut, "Blunderbuss", recently picked up a pair of 2014 Grammy Award nominations.

“I’m Shakin’”, the fourth single from the project, earned nods for Best Rock Performance and Best Music Video.

"Blunderbuss" delivered White his first US chart-topper, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 138,000 copies sold in its first week.

Jack White and Revenant Records’ founder Dean Blackwood joined PBS host Charlie Rose recently to discuss the release of “The Rise and Fall of Paramount Records 1917-1932, Volume 1”, and video of the full interview is available.

The box set features 800 songs, original ads from the era, two books, and six 180-gram vinyl LPs, and includes music recorded by Louis Armstrong, Ma Rainey, Fletcher Henderson, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Jelly Roll Morton and Ethel Waters, among others.

White recently picked up a pair of 2014 Grammy Award nominations.

The 56th Annual Grammy Awards will be held January 26, 2014 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and broadcast live on CBS from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

White is reportedly working on a follow-up to "Blunderbuss."

Jack White’s divorce finalized

A Nashville judge has finalized the divorce between Jack White and Karen Elson, who split in 2011 after six years of marriage.

Rolling Stone reports the divorce agreement, which the judge signed on November 26th, names Elson as the primary residential parent for their two children, giving White about 150 days a year with them.

White gets to keep hold of all of his music businesses, which include his various bands as well as his record label, Third Man Records.

The pair originally celebrated their split with a blowout divorce party, and White said at the time that they "remain dear and trusted friends and co-parents to our wonderful children Scarlett and Henry Lee," and "feel so fortunate for the time we have shared and the time we will continue to spend both separately and together watching our children grow."

Things took an uglier turn during a custody battle this past summer, when Elson filed a restraining order against White, characterizing the musician as an unfit father with a violent temper. White filed a countermotion objecting to the characterization and cited a series of e-mails Elson sent in May where she praised his parenting abilities.

This past week, White picked up a pair of 2014 Grammy Award nominations.

Jack White picks up two Grammy Award nominations

“I’m Shakin’”, the fourth single from Jack White’s 2012 solo debut, “Blunderbuss”, has picked up two 2014 Grammy Award nominations.

Originally released by Little Willie John, White’s cover received nominations for "Best Rock Performance" and “Best Music Video.”

The 56th Annual Grammy Awards will be held January 26, 2014 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and broadcast live on CBS from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

“Blunderbuss” previously received nominations for “Album of the Year” and “Best Rock Album” at the 2013 Grammy Awards, while the single "Freedom At 21" was up for "Best Rock Song"; all three categories were swept by The Black Keys.

“Blunderbuss” debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 138,000 copies.

White is reportedly working on a follow-up album.

Jack White named Honorary Dean of Music Academy

Jack White has been named an Honorary Dean at the Fermatta Music Academy in Mexico City, reports Rolling Stone.

On August 22nd, the rocker made a surprise appearance at the Academy's 20th anniversary celebration to give a speech on his family, the influence of Detroit on his life and the technical aspects of songwriting.

"The sense of being a musician is making art, and I do not care whether it is solo or as part of a collective project," White told the crowd, which featured over 150 students and members of the local media. "At all times, I seek to express myself, and different circumstances of my life could also become multiple creative and stylistic channels."

White was also given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony, where he was introduced by singer-songwriter Elan. He's the first musician to be awarded the Honorary Dean title in the history of the Academy.

After a successful tour behind his debut solo album, “Blunderbuss”, White is working on new music for his next record.

The former White Stripe has been recording new material with the Buzzards and the Peacocks, his separate male and female bands, respectively.

The White Stripes: Elephant reissue due this month

Jack White’s Third Man Records will mark the 10-year anniversary of The White Stripes’ breakthrough album, “Elephant”, with a reissue on August 27.

The band’s fourth album and major label debut, the “Elephant” reissue was mastered direct from the original, analog source from the 2002 recordings at Toe Rag Studios. The album includes two 180 gram black vinyl discs, a double-gatefold, printed inner sleeves and an MP3 download card.

“Elephant” featured the single “Seven Nation Army”, as well as “The Hardest Button To Button”, “I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself” and more.

The album debuted at number one in the United Kingdom and reached number six on the Billboard 200 in the US. The project won Grammys for Best Alternative Album and Best Rock Song ("Seven Nation Army").

“Elephant” was originally reissued earlier this year as a limited edition, 2-LP colored vinyl set as part of Record Store Day 2013, when White served as Record Store Day Ambassador.
