VIDEO: The Rolling Stones wrap up No Filter tour in Miami

image: YouTube

The Rolling Stones wrapped up their No Filter tour with a twice-rescheduled show at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, FL on August 30 as the state of Florida prepares for the oncoming Hurricane Dorian.

After initially delaying the start of the summer North American trek when Mick Jagger underwent heart valve replacement surgery in April, the band announced a last-minute date change from Saturday to Friday for the run’s finale as the storm heads toward the southern state in the coming days.

“Opening after a one-hour rain delay with 'Jumpin’ Jack Flash,' the Stones delivered more than two hours of audience favorites and a few rarities in front of a sell-out crowd of 60,000,” reports the Sun-Sentinel.

The 19-song set included the rarely-performed 1966 hit, “Under My Thumb”, a second stage acoustic set featuring “Sweet Virginia” and “Dead Flowers”, and the Keith Richards-led pairing of “You Got The Silver” and “Before They Make Me Run.”

“Near the end of the Stones’ show — in front of a storm-rattled South Florida audience seeking escape from the helpless frustration of watching the approach of Hurricane Dorian,” writes Ben Crandell, “vocalist Mick Jagger delivered the opening line to the band’s classic howl-at-the-heavens allegory 'Gimme Shelter.'

“’Oh, a storm is threatening, my very life today,’” Jagger sang; and with that, on cue, rain began to fall, first in individual pellets, then in driving sheets… When backup vocalist Sasha Allen marched out into the audience on a slick catwalk stage to deliver the searing solo, Jagger followed right behind her, dancing and singing “the floods is threatening,” as the sky emptied onto them.”

Following 2017 and 2018 runs across Europe, the Stones opened the 17-date No Filter tour of North America in Chicago, IL on June 21.

“Thank you Miami for sticking with us and making the most of the situation!,” posted the band on social media. “Stay safe everyone. And huge thank you to each and every one of you who have joined us on this tour, we had the best time! Till the next time we say goodbye....”

Alice In Chains singer William DuVall announces solo acoustic tour

Alice In Chains vocalist/guitarist William DuVall has announced dates for a solo acoustic tour of the US in support of his forthcoming debut solo album, “One Alone.”

The two-week, seven show series of City Winery events will begin in Atlanta, GA on October 21.

"ATLANTA!! D.C.!! NEW YORK CITY!! PHILLY!! BOSTON!! NASHVILLE!! and CHICAGO!!,” posted DuVall on social media. “I am coming to you. Live. Up close. Personal. Solo acoustic. Featuring songs from my upcoming album, 'One Alone' (oadvl.com). I would absolutely love to see you there. Tickets are on sale now."

Due October 4, the project delivers 11 acoustic tunes in a set that is billed as “part late-night confessional, part living room concert.”

This album is strictly one voice, one guitar. It reveals the very core of who I am as a singer, guitarist, and songwriter."

The rocker has appeared on the Seattle band’s last three releases, including 2009’s “Black Gives Way To Blue”, 2013’s “The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here” and 2018’s “Rainier Fog.”

The Rolling Stones move up Miami concert due to threat of Hurricane Dorian

The Rolling Stones have moved up their concert date in Miami, FL due to the approaching threat caused by Hurricane Dorian.

“Due to the weather forecast, the Rolling Stones show scheduled for Saturday, August 31 at the Hard Rock Stadium has been moved to tomorrow night, Friday, August 30,” shared the band on social media on Thursday. “All tickets will be honored for the new date. There will be no opening act - doors will open at 6:00PM ET, and the Stones will go on at 8:30PM ET. Ticket holders will be receiving an email from Ticketmaster with more information.”

The Miami concert will mark the finale date of the band’s 2019 No Filter summer tour of North America.

“We’re looking forward to seeing you in Miami this evening,” says the group. “We’re sorry to those who aren’t able to make the change of date, due to the predicted weather.

“The Rolling Stones were under pressure to cancel the show - something we were determined not to do if at all possible. Weather predictions are that the winds are going to increase from Saturday for several days and our technical team advised that for any date later than Saturday at best, the show would have to play with no towers or screens and at worst would not play at all given the uncertainty about power disruption."

“In addition,” adds the band, “many of our crew and staff are contracted to be on other tours in other parts of the world commencing early September.

“For these and other logistical reasons, the only viable option was exceptionally to move the show forward ahead of the impending hurricane. Our production team has done a truly remarkable job in accomplishing this feat and they thank the fans for the gratitude shown by so many of you.”

Neil Young And Crazy Horse are streaming a new track, “Milky Way”, as the first preview to their forthcoming album “Colorado.”

Vollick, will be released in over 100 theaters world-wide the week our album debuts in October.”

“Colorado” will be available via CD, digital and streaming services, as well as in a 2LP set that presents three sides plus a 7” exclusive two-sided single not on the album: the live solo "Rainbow Of Colors" and "Truth Kills."

Gibson announces Chris Cornell signature tribute guitar

Gibson have announced the worldwide launch of the new, limited-edition Chris Cornell ES-335 Tribute guitar in honor of the late Soundgarden frontman.

Gibson first partnered with Cornell to work on his original ES-335 signature guitar in 2013 and it became immediately clear to the luthiers that the rocker had an inventive and unique passion for guitar design. Features like the aged Lollartron humbucking pickups, clear "no number" Top Hat knobs, Olive Drab Satin finish and Mother-of-Pearl Chris Cornell "signature" peghead inlay make this guitar one of Gibson's most distinct and rarified artist offerings to date.

"Chris Cornell was not only one of the most iconic singer songwriters of all time, he was a modern innovator who left a legacy that transcends music genres and generations," says Cesar Gueikian, chief merchant officer, Gibson. "Chris fell in love with this guitar and it became a part of his creative expression. It's our honor to release this tribute ES-335 in his memory. Chris was a special artist and we hope that this guitar will inspire fans to find their sound, and inspiration, just like Chris did, for many years to come."

The Gibson Chris Cornell ES-335 guitar was officially unveiled earlier this year at the star-studded "I Am The Highway: A Tribute To Chris Cornell" concert honoring Cornell's legacy and supporting the Chris And Vicky Cornell Foundation and The Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to raising funds and awareness for this painful and debilitating genetic disorder.

In partnership with the foundation and charitable causes important to Chris and his family, Gibson made a donation, in addition to offering a selection of the limited-edition Chris Cornell ES-335 signature guitars to the foundation to raise added funds.

A pre-sale is underway now, with the Cornell Tribute guitar available via authorized Gibson dealers on September 3.

Cornell took his own life in a Detroit hotel room in the early hours of May 18, 2017 following a Soundgarden show in the city.

The rocker co-founded the Seattle group with lead guitarist Kim Thayil and bassist Hiro Yamamoto in 1984; bassist Ben Shepherd and drummer Matt Cameron went on to round out the band’s longtime lineup.

VIDEO: Metallica perform Nothing Else Matters in Moscow

Metallica are streaming video of a performance their 1991 classic, “Nothing Else Matters”, from a July 21 concert at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia.

The track was the third single from the group’s self-titled record, the band’s first to top the US charts on its way to sales of 16 million in the States and more than 30 million worldwide.

Metallica will continue the WorldWired tour next month with a pair of shows with the San Francisco Symphony as they open the new Chase Center in San Francisco, CA before heading to Australia and New Zealand for concert dates in October.

The trek will continue into 2020 as the group recently announced dates for a South American tour next spring with guests Greta Van Fleet.

“As the WorldWired tour hits the last leg in Europe, there are still so many places left to visit; South America, you’re up first in 2020!,” says Metallica. “The last time we had the pleasure was in 2017 as part of the Lollapalooza festival and now it’s time to come back with the full-on stadium experience (as seen in North America and Europe) for six headlining shows including two Brazilian cities we have never played in – Belo Horizonte and Curitiba.”

The two-week stadium series will begin in Santiago, Chile on April 15, and include a stop in Argentina and four shows in Brazil.

Pink Floyd announce 16-disc box set The Later Years

Pink Floyd will focus on the latter part of their career with the November 29 release of a massive 16-disc box set entitled “The Later Years.”

The 5-CD/6-Blu-ray/5-DVD package delivers the work of guitarist David Gilmour, drummer Nick Mason and keyboardist Richard Wright from 1987 onwards, a period that saw the group generate sales of more than 40 million records.

The set opens with an updated version of 1987’s “A Momentary Lapse Of Reason”, newly-remixed by Gilmour and Andy Jackson – and presented for the first time in 5.1 audio – that includes new drum tracks recorded by Mason.

1998’s live album, “Delicate Sound Of Thunder” – which captures the band during a five-night stand at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, NY – has also been remixed over 2CD and Blu-ray and DVD editions.

Previously-unreleased live performances from Pink Floyd’s famous 1989 Venice Concert and a 1990 appearance at Knebworth are also featured in video and audio formats, while the 1995 release, “Pulse”, has been re-edited and upgraded for “The Later Years” package.

While 2014’s “The Endless River” album marked the band’s final studio release following Wright’s passing in 2008, a companion film by Ian Emes makes its debut in the 2019 box set, which is rounded out by hours of unreleased bonus materials including music videos, documentary footage, bonus live tracks, upgraded tour screen films and documentaries.

It includes the first ever release, on Blu-ray, DVD and 7” vinyl, of the last live performance of Pink Floyd with Gilmour, Mason and Wright together in 2007; this special performance of "Arnold Layne" took place at the Syd Barrett Tribute Concert at The Barbican in 2007.

Additional extras include reproductions of tour artwork, posters, programmes, tour laminates and lyric book, and a brand new 60-page hardback book of photos designed by Aubrey Powell of Hipgnosis and Peter Curzon of StormStudios, including many previously unseen images.

The 5 CDs are encased in their own 40-page hardback book with an extensive guide to all content, tracklists and credits.

There will also be a 2-LP / 1-CD ‘Highlights’ package. It comes in a gatefold sleeve (for both 1-CD and 2-LP), and each will contain a 24-page booklet containing previously unseen and rare photos.

“Pink Floyd: The Later Years” is being previewed with an official video trailer and footage of the group performing “Wish You Were Here” at Knebworth.

Formed in London in 1965, Pink Floyd went on to sell more than 250 million albums worldwide, including 75 million in the US alone; the band were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1996 and the UK Music Hall Of Fame in 2005.

KISS are streaming video of Gene Simmons spitting blood as part of his bass solo during the band’s August 27 show in Syracuse, NY.

The mid-set break sees Simmons take center stage for some theatrics before taking lead vocals on the band’s 1976 classic, “God Of Thunder.”

“Syracuse! You were awesome last night,” posted the group on social media. “Thank You!”

KISS recently launched a new North American leg of the End Of The Road tour in Florida; the current series will wrap up in Los Angeles on September 20, after which the band will host and headline KISS Kruise IX at the end of October, and perform across Australia and New Zealand in November and December before winding down 2019 with a number of dates in Japan.

"All that we have built and all that we have conquered over the past four decades could never have happened without the millions of people worldwide who've filled clubs, arenas and stadiums over those years,” says KISS about the farewell run. “This will be the ultimate celebration for those who've seen us and a last chance for those who haven't.

“KISS Army, we're saying goodbye on our final tour with our biggest show yet and we'll go out the same way we came in... unapologetic and unstoppable."

The Rolling Stones performed the 2019 No Filter tour debut of their 1965 classic, “Get off Of My Cloud”, by request during an August 26 show at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ.

The song was a No. 1 hit in the US, UK , Canada, Germany and South Africa upon its original release, which came prior to its inclusion on the group’s album, “December's Children (And Everybody's).”

The Glendale stop marked the second-to-last show of the No Filter tour of North America, which will wrap up in Miami, FL on August 31.

“Thank you Glendale, that was a hot one!,” posted the Stones on social media. “Can’t believe we’re down to just the last show on this tour...Miami are you ready next!”

The start of the summer series was postponed after Mick Jagger underwent heart valve replacement surgery in April.

The singer’s latest movie project, “The Burnt Orange Heresy”, will close the 76th Venice International Film Festival this fall.

Directed by Giuseppe Capotondi and also starring Claes Bang, Elizabeth Debicki and Donald Sutherland, the heist thriller – based on the 1971 book of same name by Charles Willeford – sees Jagger play an art collector who hires an art critic to steal a masterpiece from the studio of renowned artist.

Liam Gallagher revisits Oasis past in One Of Us video

Liam Gallagher is premiering a video for “One Of Us”, the latest single from his forthcoming album “Why Me? Why Not.”

Directed by Anthony Byrne, the clip sees Gallagher revisit his past with a series of childhood photographs in a field, where he walks with a few younger versions of himself; the lyrics reference an Oasis classic, “Live Forever”, while the footage includes the date of the band’s official split ten years ago to the day of the video’s release.

On August 28, 2009, guitarist Noel Gallagher issued a statement that he had quit Oasis as he “simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.”

“‘One of Us’ is about family, friendship and a sense of belonging,” explains Liam. “I love the groove and the gospel outro. It reminds me of The Sweet Inspirations.”

The song features the rocker’s son, Gene Gallagher, on bongos and Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner on guitar.

Due September 20, “Why Me? Why Not” was produced by Greg Kurstin and marks the follow-up to Gallagher’s 2017 solo debut, “As You Were”, which topped the UK album charts and reached No. 30 on the US Billboard 200.

On August 30, Oasis will release a vinyl reissue of their 1994 debut, “Definitely Maybe”, to celebrate the project’s 25th anniversary.

Oasis mark Definitely Maybe anniversary with Fade Away lyric video

Oasis are marking this month’s 25th anniversary of their 1994 debut, “Definitely Maybe”, with a new lyric video for the track “Fade Away.”

The tune was the b-side to the project’s fourth single, "Cigarettes & Alcohol", which was a top 10 hit for the group in their native UK; the song would resurface years later on the 1998 compilation, “The Masterplan.”

On August 30, Oasis will release a vinyl reissue of “Definitely Maybe”, known historically as the fastest-ever selling debut album in the UK at the time; the No. 1 record went seven times platinum in the country while selling over five million copies worldwide.

The 2019 reissue will deliver two limited edition vinyl editions of the record, including a silver colored LP available via retail and a picture disc via the band’s online store.

Fans are also being encouraged to share their memories of the album on social media using the hashtag #DefMaybe25.

Oasis disbanded in 2009 following the exit of guitarist Noel Gallagher.

VIDEO: Metallica perform The Four Horsemen in Estonia

Metallica are streaming video of a performance their 1983 classic, “The Four Horsemen”, from a July 18 concert at Raadi Airfield in Tartu, Estonia.

The tune appeared on the group’s debut album, “Kill ‘Em All”, which didn’t arrive on the US Billboard 200 chart until three years later, where it peaked at No. 66 on its way to eventually selling 3 million copies Stateside.

The Estonia stop was part of Metallica’s spring/summer European concert series that just wrapped up in Mannheim, Germany.

The group will next be seen playing two shows at the new Chase Center in San Francisco, CA in early September before heading to Australia and New Zealand for concert dates in October.

On November 26, the band will publish “The ABCs Of Metallica”, a book that looks back at the history of the band from A to Z – with each letter of the alphabet highlighting a moment along the way.

A portion of proceeds from the project will benefit the group’s All Within My Hands Foundation as Metallica continue to support workforce education and the fight against hunger.

The Rolling Stones performed a rare version of their 1967 classic, “She’s A Rainbow”, by request during an August 22 show at Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, CA.

According to setlist.fm, the event marked the third 2019 appearance – and just 19th ever – of the second single from “Their Majesties Satanic Request” album, which was a Top 25 US hit for the band.

“It’s been 25 years since we played the Rose Bowl!” Mick Jagger told the crowd near the end of the concert, according to the Los Angeles Times. “And it’s been 55 years since we first played L.A.!”

Rescheduled from an earlier evening in May following Jagger’s heart valve replacement surgery in April, the sold–out show was preceded by an appearance by actor Robert Downey Jr., who revealed that NASA’s nearby Jet Propulsion Laboratory had named a rock on Mars after the legendary UK band.

The Rolling Stones will wrap up the 2019 No Filter tour of North America in Miami, FL on August 31.

The Foo Fighters rocked AC/DC’s 1977 classic, “Let There Be Rock”, during their August 25 closing set at the UK’s Reading festival, and the BBC is streaming video from the event.

The band’s 25-song performance delivered classic tracks and hits from their nine-album catalog, with Dave Grohl dedicating 2017’s “Run” to the late Keith Flint of The Prodigy, who took his own life this past March.

Reading also saw the Foos bring out a surprise guest, which was caught on film by a fan.

“I thought tonight we’ll do something special for you that pays tribute to a song that brings us way back in time," Grohl told the crowd, according to Billboard. "It’s maybe the reason why I’m here tonight headlining the main stage. If you know it you can bounce around to it.”

Teasing what sounded like a classic Nirvana riff, Grohl started strumming like a maniac as Rick Astley came out in a Hawaiian shirt and Rickrolled more than 60,000 with his 1987 hit, "Never Gonna Give You Up."

The BBC are also sharing footage of 2005’s “Best Of You” and the show’s finale of “Everlong.”

The Foo Fighters will play a pair of US dates next month before headlining a series of South American shows, including an appearance at the legendary Rock In Rio festival on September 28.

The Steve Miller Band are streaming audio of a previously-unreleased song, “Say Wow!”, as the latest preview to the forthcoming collection, “Welcome To The Vault.”

Recorded in 1973 – the same year Miller released his smash album, “The Joker” – the song is one of 38 previously-unavailable rarities from his archives as presented on the 3CD/DVD package, including more studio and live material.

Due October 11, “Welcome To The Vault” presents 52 audio tracks alongside 21 performances on DVD and a 100-page hard bound book with Steve’s personal photos and a 9,000 word essay by Rolling Stone’s David Fricke.

The DVD contains a variety of live material shot through the years, offering rare footage from the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, a 1973 appearance on Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert, ABC In Concert 1974, a 1970 concert from the Fillmore West filmed for Dutch TV, Michigan’s Pine Knob Theatre in 1982, Steve and Les Paul at Fat Tuesdays (1990) and Austin City Limits in 2011.

Miller was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2016.

NASA names Mars rock after The Rolling Stones

The team behind NASA's InSight lander has named a Martian rock after The Rolling Stones.

A division of Caltech, The Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which manages InSight for NASA, has announced the boulder is now known as “Rolling Stones Rock.”

InSight’s retrorockets sent the rock rolling about 3 feet (1 meter) as the spacecraft touched down on Mars on November 26, 2018. It's the farthest NASA has seen a rock roll after landing a spacecraft on another planet. A little larger than a golf ball, the rock is about 2.2 inches (5.5 centimeters) in diameter and 1 inch (2.4 centimeters) in height; a series of divots marked its course after being set in motion by the landing.

Before the band’s August 22 show at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, CA, actor Robert Downey Jr. shared the news with fans from the stage.

"The name Rolling Stones Rock is a perfect fit," said Lori Glaze, director of NASA's Planetary Science Division in Washington. "Part of NASA's charter is to share our work with different audiences. When we found out the Stones would be in Pasadena, honoring them seemed like a fun way to reach fans all over the world."

NASA is streaming an animated video of the Rolling Stones Rock news as well as footage of Downey’s announcement at Rose Bowl Stadium.

"What a wonderful way to celebrate the 'Stones No Filter' tour arriving in Pasadena,” says the band. “This is definitely a milestone in our long and eventful history. A huge thank you to everyone at NASA for making it happen."

The Rolling Stones will wrap up their summer North American series in Miami, FL on August 31.

VIDEO: Royal Blood perform at Reading Festival

photo: Reading Festival

Royal Blood delivered their 2017 song, “How Did We Get So Dark?”, at the UK’s Reading Festival on August 23, and the BBC are streaming video of the performance.

The tune was the tile track to the band’s second album, which debuted atop the UK charts upon its release.

The Reading gig will be followed by an August 24 appearance at the companion festival event in Leeds as the duo of bassist/singer Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher wind down a summer series of shows across the UK and Europe.

Royal Blood hit the road for a while to take a break from work on their third album after enjoying some downtime last year, while also giving the pair a chance to road test a couple of new songs, “Boilermaker” and “King.”

“Too much time in the studio can’t be good for a band like us who pride ourselves on being a live act,” Kerr tells the NME. “We’re very much in the middle of it. A similar thing happened on the last record where we got to a point where we had some real breakthrough moments. The standard has raised and we hit upon a couple of tunes that were better than anything we’d ever done before. It’s changed the temperature of the water a lot. We were like, ‘What if we had a whole record of these?’

“That led to us feeling like we’re not in a rush to put out something that’s mediocre. We’re going to hold out and put out the best thing we’ve ever done.”

Stone Temple Pilots stream 1994 live version of Interstate Love Song

Stone Temple Pilots are streaming audio of a 1994 live version of “Interstate Love Song” as a preview to next month’s arrival of a 25th anniversary edition of their second album, “Purple.”

The track is one of 17 songs captured at the New Haven Coliseum in New Haven, CT while the California band was on the road just two months after the release of their second record, that make up a full concert as featured on a 3CD/1LP “Purple: Super Deluxe Edition” that will be available on September 13.

Presented alongside a newly-remastered version of the original studio album on both CD and vinyl, plus unreleased versions of album tracks and rarities, the 25th anniversary reissue explores the making of the album with a mix of unreleased music that includes demos (“Unglued” and “Army Ants”) and early versions of album tracks (“Meat Plow” and "Interstate Love Song"), plus acoustic recordings (“Big Empty”).

The collection also features three unreleased live performances from the 1994 KROQ Acoustic Christmas show, including a version of “Christmastime Is Here” from A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Produced by Brenden O’Brien, “Purple” originally debuted at No. I in the US while going on to sell more than 6 million copies in the country.

In addition to the Super Deluxe Edition, the milestone reissue project will also be available both digitally and as a 2-CD Deluxe Edition.

The anniversary package will be issued in sync with a fall co-headlining US tour that will see the group joined by Rival Sons.

The four-week run will see full sets from both acts, as Stone Temple Pilots continue to tour in support of their 2018 self-titled album with new singer Jeff Gutt, and Rival Sons promote their new record, “Feral Roots.”

Sammy Hagar And The Circle premiere No Worries video

Sammy Hagar And The Circle are premiering a video for “No Worries”, a track from their latest album, “Space Between.”

“It's like a metaphor,” Hagar tells Forbes. “I wrote a concept record about money, greed, enlightenment and truth. What happens is, in the songs, the guy lost everything. He was on top of the world, kicking ass, but he was an a**hole and greedy and it went to his head. Then he got bumped out of everything and it took that to have the enlightenment moment, cause the enlightenment moment is when you are sitting there with nothing and you realize it's not so bad. ‘This is better than when I was rich and powerful and all the hassles I had and f**king people and getting f**ked and all that stuff.’ When you got nothing you're just sitting there going., ‘Wow, I don't have any worries.’

“I came from that place, so I know that it does exist. It's not where I am today, but it was important in my story. And the video cracks me up because we took a businessman and took his tie and put it around his head, he starts doing cartwheels down the street."

"I love it, I love enlightenment, that song to me is about that," adds Hagar. "You can really live that way if you can figure it out, but otherwise you gotta go through some s**t to get there. Most people start there, but they don't realize it was a pretty good place to be, 'No Worries.' It's kind of my lifestyle now, but I didn't have to go through all that to get it.”

“Space Between” debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 this past spring.

The band continue to play US dates in support of the project ahead of Hagar’s second annual High Tide Beach Party & Car Show in Huntington Beach, CA next month.
