Guns N’ Roses perform four Black Sabbath songs at farewell event

Guns N’ Roses performed four Black Sabbath songs during its appearance at the UK band’s farewell concert event.

The group opened its set at Birmingham’s Villa Park with the 1972 “Technical Ecstasy” tune, “It’s Alright”, which was followed by the title track to 1978’s “Never Say Die!” and its deep cut, “Junior’s Eyes”, as well as the title track to 1973’s “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” – before closing with “Welcome To The Jungle” and “Paradise City.”

Axl Rose had a backstage moment with Ozzy Osbourne, which he shared online, writing “"Wow! What an event! Extremely overwhelming! Really great crowd! Was very emotional for everyone! MET OZZY! Crazy we'd never met before! He was really great! Was great to meet Sabbath!"

"Was hard as I imagine for anyone to watch his struggles while at the same time everyone was rooting for him and massively respecting the challenges he took head on and he did it! Was great to meet Ozzy's family and see friends and peeps in all the bands and the business. A huge thank you again to Ozzy, Sharon, Black Sabbath and all the fans for having us!"

“My first time meeting Axl Rose,” shared Ozzy on social media, “at my age you don’t get to meet many legends, seriously an utter gentleman.”

Proceeds from the concert event will go to the Cure Parkinson’s, Acorns Children’s Hospice and Birmingham Children’s Hospital charities.

Slash to launch new album with Jimmy Kimmel Live residency

Slash will celebrate the May 17 release of his new album, “Orgy Of The Damned”, with a multi-night residency on ABC-TV’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The guitarist will perform a selection of songs from the project with Cleto & The Cletones during appearances on the late night program on Monday, May 20, Tuesday, May 21, and Wednesday, May 22.

Slash’s sixth solo record is a star-studded blues album that saw him working with producer Mike Clink and a host of diverse guest vocalists, including Gary Clark Jr, Billy F. Gibbons, Chris Stapleton, Dorothy, Iggy Pop, Paul Rodgers, Demi Lovato, Brian Johnson, Tash Neal, Chris Robinson, and Beth Hart.

Rounding out his blues band in the studio and on the road, Slash reunited with two of his bandmates from his Blues Ball outfit in the 90s – bassist Johnny Griparic and keyboardist Teddy ‘ZigZag’ Andreadis – and brought on drummer Michael Jerome and singer/guitarist Tash Neal.

Slash launched “Orgy Of The Damned” with a cover of the 1964 Howlin’ Wolf classic, “Killing Floor”, where he was joined by Brian Johnson of AC/DC on vocals and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith on harmonica; the tune was followed by a version of Fleetwood Mac’s “Oh Well” that featured outlaw country star Chris Stapleton on vocals.

“Orgy Of The Damned” encompasses a broad range of styles within the blues genre, veering from an upbeat, rowdy take on Robert Johnson’s “Crossroads” to a plaintive, twanging rendition of T. Bone Walker’s “Stormy Monday.” Some of the songs, like Steppenwolf’s “The Pusher,” Charlie Segar’s “Key to the Highway” and Albert King’s “Born Under a Bad Sign,” had been performed by Slash’s Blues Ball while others, like Stevie Wonder’s “Living for the City,” were long-time favorites for Slash.

Cody Johnson and Paul Rodgers will handle lead vocals alongside guitarists Slash, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, and Warren Haynes for a one-time-only performance of a pair of timeless Lynyrd Skynyrd hits, just four weeks after the passing of the group’s last original founding member Gary Rossington.

Longtime Rolling Stones pianist Chuck Leavell will be on hand, while veteran Nashville studio and touring musicians Ethan Pilzer and Rich Redmond will perform on bass and drums respectively, with LeAnn Rimes and Wynonna Judd filling the role of "The Honkettes."

Dale Krantz Rossington, band member and wife of late guitarist Gary Rossington, is set to attend the once-in-a-lifetime musical celebration alongside fellow Lynyrd Skynyrd band members Johnny Van Zant and Rickey Medlocke.

Lynyrd Skynyrd has sold more than 28 million records in the US since the 1973 release of their debut album, "Pronounced 'Leh-'nerd 'Skin-'nerd".

Kelsea Ballerini and Kane Brown will host the 2023 CMT Music Awards LIVE from Austin, TX's Moody Center this Sunday, April 2nd (8:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network and is available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.*

Michael Monroe and Slash rock I Live Too Fast To Die Young title track

Michael Monroe has released a video for the title track to his latest album, “I Live Too Fast To Die Young”, which features a guest appearance by Slash on lead guitar.

“Slash is one of the nicest guys that I know and one of rock’s greatest guitarists as he’s maintained the spontaneity, the human touch and the heartfelt kick-ass attitude in his playing,” says Monroe. “I figured this would be a good one for him to play a solo on, he said he loved the song and that it’s super catchy!”

“Having Slash play an absolutely ripping guitar solo on it was a real honor,”
adds guitarist Rich Jones, “and it’s since become a fan favorite in our live shows.”

Monroe recorded his tenth studio set at Inkfish Studios in Helsinki, Finland between November and December 2021.

“This one started life as just a song title - a tongue-in-cheek nod to Vivienne Westwood’s ‘Too Fast To Live, Too Young To Die’ t-shirts after I had been gifted one by a fan in Japan,” explains Jones about the inspiration for the song. “It’s a reference to Michael’s seemingly boundless energy and the fact that he’s still kicking ass after all these years.”

“I love reinventing old clichés,”
Monroe laughs. “The whole ‘live fast, die young’ cliché is so boring, so I live too fast to die young! It takes more to survive and be here today than to self-destruct and die young!”

Monroe and Motorhead’s Phil Campbell And The Bastard Sons will hit the road next month with Black Star Riders on that band’s 10th anniversary UK tour; the series will open on February 13 at Nottingham’s Rock City.

Guns N’ Roses classic Sweet Child O' Mine tops US Hard Rock charts

Guns N’ Roses’ 1987 classic, “Sweet Child O’ Mine”, has topped the US Hot Hard Rock Songs chart following its inclusion in a trailer for upcoming movie "Thor: Love And Thunder."

According to Billboard, the song debuts at No. 1 on the latest chart after it earned 4.7 million official U.S. streams – an 8% boost – and sold 1,600 downloads, up 181%, according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data. A staple of classic hits and rock radio, it also drew 1.2 million in audience on stations that report to Billboard‘s Radio Songs chart.

The feat delivered Guns N’ Roses their first No. 1 on the Hot Hard Rock Songs list since it was launched in 2020; they previously scored a pair of Top 5 tracks last year with “Hard Skool” and “Absurd.”

The increased activity and profile also helped “Sweet Child O’ Mine” move from 2-1 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart for its 24th week atop the survey since its 2020 premiere, while also jumping 16-3 on Hard Rock Digital Song Sales and re-entering the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart at No. 9.

The third track issued from Guns N” Roses’ debut, “Appetite For Destruction”, remains the group’s only US No. 1 single and one of six US Top 10 hits.

Guns N’ Roses will next be seen performing at Daytona Beach, FL’s Welcome To Rockville festival on May 21 before the group opens a summer European tour in Lisbon, Portugal on June 4.

Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators performed the Elton John classic, “Rocket Man”, on The Howard Stern Show on February 9.

The appearance – which also included the single, “The River Is Rising” – comes ahead of the February 11 release of the band’s new album, “4.”

“They really rocked,” said Stern. “I’m very honored because it was great. It is always fun to watch Slash play guitar.”

After complimenting Kennedy for his “great set of pipes” and “great look,” Howard expanded on his appreciation for Slash’s axe skills.

“That Slash, he is a good guitar player,” he noted. “He doesn’t always steal the moment – he lets things unfold … He’s one of those guys I watch, and I go, ‘I wish I could play guitar.’”

The group recorded “4” with producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile) at the historic RCA Studio A to Nashville, TN, capturing the new material with a series of full band performances live in the studio.

Slash streams third episode of Making Of 4 album series

Slash Ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators are streaming the third episode of a video series sharing a behind the scenes look at their forthcoming album, “4”.

The group recorded the set with producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile) at the historic RCA Studio A to Nashville, TN, capturing the new material with a series of full band performances live in the studio.

“The guitar playing on it is all really, really spontaneous,” says Slash. “Nothing’s really ‘worked out.’ This is like three takes entirely and we’re done. On this particular record, just having a sort of spontaneity and energy of the group as a whole – the collective – that’s a highlight.”

“They were a machine,” adds Cobb. “While we were making this record, we just pushed everybody to be crazy, like you were on stage, and just go for it. People always say, ‘I saw the band live, they were so much better than the record’, so I think we tried to eliminate the wall between seeing Slash and the band live.

“I knew they were great, I knew they were gonna come in here and kill it, but what did surprise me was the sound Slash gets when plays a Les Paul. I mean, Les Paul/s an incredible guitar but, in his hands, it sounds like chainsaw. The solos on the record – he’s doing them live: it’s legendary, it’s iconic, and it’s memorable and it’s thematic.”

Introduced last fall with the lead single, “The River Is Rising”, the set marks Slash’s fifth solo album and fourth overall with his band featuring Myles Kennedy, drummer Brent Fitz, bassist Todd Kerns and guitarist Frank Sidoris.

Slash and the band will launch “4” with a full album performance livestream on February 11, the day of its release; the “Live At Studios 60” event will be available via YouTube.

Slash streams second episode of Making Of 4 album series

Slash Ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators are streaming the second episode of a video series sharing a behind the scenes look at their forthcoming album, “4”.

In an effort to maintain a ‘bubble’ around the band during the growing pandemic, the members tell the story of travelling together via rented bus to Nashville, TN to record the project with producer Dave Cobb under strict protocols.

With Myles Kennedy in an isolated vocal booth and the group playing live in the room, it didn’t take long, however, before the ‘bubble’ burst during the sessions.

“About 24 hours in and I was like, ‘ah, my allergies are starting…what’s going on here?’”, recalls Kennedy, “and it was definitely not allergies”, which led to the singer phoning Slash to advise him of the situation.

“We had to test regularly while we were there,” Slash explains, “and it turned out Myles was positive, and it was like a domino effect from there."

Covid eventually spread throughout the camp as the group continued to laying down new material live in the studio as Kennedy isolated and even recorded some vocals off site.

“All in all,” Slash adds, “the whole thing was a very memorable adventure.”

Slash and the band will launch "4" with a full album performance livestream on February 11, the day of its release; the “Live At Studios 60” event will be available via YouTube.

Slash also sat down with the host to discuss a number of things, including recording the project live in a Nashville, TN studio, growing up in Hollywood and sneaking into Sunset Strip clubs at the age of 15 with fake ID, and heading out on tour with his band before rejoining Guns N’ Roses in May for more dates, among other things.

Slash and the group will launch a North American tour in support of “4” in Portland, OR on February 8.

Slash launches Making Of 4 album video series

Slash Ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators have launched a video series sharing a behind the scenes look at their forthcoming album, “4”.

“The record itself is probably the best one that we’ve done so far,” explains Slash. “It was just a balls-to-the-wall, just straight-up live session.”

The band recorded the project at the historic RCA Studio A to Nashville, TN with producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile).

“I talked to Dave on the phone, and he said all the right things,” recalls Slash, “So, I was sold on the telephone call …and then when we showed up there, it was exactly what we wanted to do.”

“I think we just talked about making a record that felt like those classic records that we loved,”
says Cobb. “We set it up the same way as if you were rehearsing in your garage and you’re 15."

In the opening episode of the series, Slash goes on to detail the volume of material the band had to choose from for the project, and how they prepared to hit the studio to, essentially, capture a live performance.

Slash and the band will launch a North American tour in support of “4” in Portland, OR on February 8 ahead of the album’s release on February 11.
