Conceived by Cornell as a tribute to his late friend, singer Andrew Wood, the core lineup included Wood’s former Mother Love Bone bandmates Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament alongside Mike McCready and Matt Cameron.
The band recorded their self-titled debut album in 15 days, with Eddie Vedder adding background vocals in the formative days of Pearl Jam, including a duet of the project’s lead single, “Hunger Strike.”
The Cornell tribute event brought together most of the TOTD lineup – with McCready and Vedder notably absent – to perform with a rotating list of additional players and vocalists (see list below), including Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile, Nikki Costa and Miley Cyrus, who Rolling Stone called “the night’s true showstopper” for bringing the crowd to its feet when she delivered the 1991 project’s second single, “Say Hello 2 Heaven.”
Hosted by ABC-TV’s Jimmy Kimmel, the event saw the first performance by the three surviving members of Soundgarden – watch their full set here – following Cornell’s passing in May of 2017 at the age of 52.
The Cornell tribute also featured performances by Audioslave, Metallica, Foo Fighters, Ryan Adams and The Melvins, among others.

Tickets for all shows went on sale July 29 and reportedly sold out so quickly that Ticketmaster were forced to respond to fans who questioned the system.
“We're sorry,” tweeted Ticketmaster. “For high demand events tons of people try purchasing from the limited inventory and tickets go quickly.”

Seattle supergroup Temple Of The Dog – featuring members of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden – will reunite this fall to tour for the first time ever since forming in 1990.
Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell, Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard and Mike McCready, and drummer Matt Cameron (who plays drums with both bands) will play five cities in November in support of the 25th anniversary of the release of Temple Of The Dog’s first and only album.

On September 30, the group will release a special "Temple Of The Dog" 25th anniversary reissue collection of the project, newly mixed by Brendan O’Brien.
The collection will be available in several packages, including a 4-disc Super Deluxe, a double LP, a two CD Deluxe, and a single CD set.
Temple Of The Dog performed live only a handful of times, most notably in Seattle in November and December of 1990. Those shows have become some of the most legendary Seattle concerts of all-time. Their 2016 shows will mark the first time the band has ever toured, although Cornell joined Pearl Jam in 2014 at the Bridge School show and for two nights at PJ20 in Alpine Valley, WI, and the lineup played “Reach Down” and “Call Me A Dog” at Seattle’s Benaroya Hall in January 2015.
A special ticket pre-sale for fans signed up to the Pearl Jam Ten Club (must be a member as of July 19th to be eligible for the Ten Club pre-sale), Soundgarden, and Chris Cornell email lists begins immediately and runs through July 27.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, July 29 at 10:00 AM PST.
$1.50 from each ticket sold will benefit the Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation and an additional $1.50 will benefit Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy Foundation.
Pearl Jam will resume their 2016 tour next month with pairs of shows at Fenway Park in Boston and Wrigley Field in Chicago, IL.

A legal battle has begun over the master tapes to Seattle supergroup Temple Of The Dog’s 1991 self-titled album.
The one-off project – which featured members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam – was conceived by Chris Cornell as a tribute to his friend, the late Andrew Wood, lead singer of Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone.
The Seattle Times reports A&M Records is suing London Bridge Studios co-founder Rajan Parashar to return the tapes following the 2014 death of his brother and fellow studio co-founder, producer Rick Parashar.
According to the lawsuit, Rick initially produced Temple Of The Dog in 1990 on a verbal agreement with the band before a label contract was signed in 1993, in which A&M alleges Rick agreed to turn over the master tapes and all rights to them for $35,000.
Rajan’s lawyer, Warren Rheaume, says his client was not part of any agreement between his brother and A&M and has custody of the master tapes.
“Temple Of The Dog” featured the singles “Hunger Strike” and “Say Hello 2 Heaven”, while the album peaked at No. 5 on the US Billboard 200 on its way to selling more than a million copies in the States alone.
Part of the band’s family tree was on display at the PJ20 Destination Weekend at Alpine Valley recently, when PJ were joined by Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell for some rare live versions of Temple Of The Dog tracks.
Temple Of The Dog was formed as attribute to Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood, who died of a heroin overdose in 1990.
To watch PJ’s full sets from both days: PJ20 Day 1 is here and PJ20 Day 2 is here.
Links to other PJ20 Countdown Days are below in the “See also” section.
Huge excitement across Pearl Jam land these days as the band celebrates their 20th Anniversary.
On Saturday, Day 1 of their PJ20 Destination Weekend kicked off in Alpine Valley, as the band were joined for the event by The Strokes, Queens Of The Stone Age, Mudhoney and almost 10 other acts. Julian Casablancas, Josh Homme, Glen Hansard, Liam Finn, Dan Peters, Dhani Harrison and Chris Cornell all joined PJ for the main set, whose highlight was the Temple Of The Dog reunion with Cornell as part of the night’s encores.
hennemusic snagged a live feed from a fan on-site who was streaming the show via an Andriod phone; rough quality, for sure, but it gave fans outside of the venue a chance to at least sense the energy at Alpine Valley…and there was lots of it. Check out the taped footage and setlist here.
With any luck, the same fan will feed Day 2's show and we'll be able to share it here LIVE as it happens. Stay tuned.
I am building the band’s full set from Day 1 here for fans to see as the videos surface on YouTube – there’s more to come, so please stop by to see the work-in-progress as it unfolds.
Hope to have a full Day 2 show posted sometime on Monday, as footage surfaces.
Thanks to all the fans who share these videos for others who can’t be there in person.
