VIDEO: The Rolling Stones perform lone Canadian date on No Filter tour

photo: Burl's Creek Event Grounds / Ryan Bolton

The Rolling Stones performed the lone Canadian date on their 2019 No Filter tour during a June 29 show at Burl's Creek Event Grounds in Oro-Medonte, ON, about an hour north of Toronto.

CTV News reports a crowd of 70,000 were on hand to witness the band’s 20-song set of classics, which opened with “Street Fighting Man.”

The Canada Rocks event – which fell on the country’s Canada Day long weekend, when it will celebrate its 152nd birthday on July 1 – saw the Stones joined by a lineup of Canadian rockers including The Glorious Sons, The Beaches, Sloan and One Bad Son.

Mick Jagger wished a simple "Happy Canada Day" early in the evening as the 75-year-old singer – who underwent heart valve replacement surgery in April – delivered a “tireless performance” while “zig-zagging across the massive stage and strutting down the catwalk” over the course of the 2-hour show.

Among a few local references, Jagger gave a shout out to the NBA Champion Toronto Raptors.

At the end of the concert, the Stones teased a possible return to the region as the digital screens on stage flashed the message, "See you soon."

“We had an amazing night in Canada, thank you!”, posted the band on social media after the show.

The group will next play FedExField in Washington, DC on July 3.

VIDEO: Robert Plant performs Immigrant Song for first time in two decades

Robert Plant performed the 1970 Led Zeppelin classic, "Immigrant Song", for the first time in two decades during a June 23 appearance at the Secret Solstice festival in Reykjavík, Iceland.

According to setlist.fm, the rocker last delivered the opening track from his former group’s third album as a solo artist in 1991 and alongside bandmate Jimmy Page in 1996.

Plant and The Sensational Space Shifters headlined the closing night of the event in Iceland, where the singer was inspired to write the lyrics to “Immigrant Song” during a 1970 visit by Led Zeppelin to the island in the North Atlantic.

The festival showcases both established artists as well as up-and-coming talent over the course of three days in the 24 hour midnight sun during the summer solstice.

Plant will wrap up a European tour this week and return to live action when he launches a fall tour of North America at the Harvest Jazz And Blues Festival in Fredericton, New Brunswick on September 13.

Steven Tyler joined Paul McCartney for a performance of The Beatles classic, “Helter Skelter”, during a June 28 show at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

“Need I say more?” posted the Aerosmith rocker on social media alongside video of his guest appearance during the first of two weekend concerts by McCartney at the venue.

Tyler is the city as Aerosmith continue their “Deuces Are Wild” residency at the Park Theater at the Park MGM hotel.

The Boston band teamed up with producer Giles Martin – known for creating the soundscape for "The Beatles Love" by Cirque du Soleil show – for the series, which is billed as “one of the most immersive, state-of-the art audio and video technology experiences in Las Vegas.”

In sync with the latest run of dates, Aerosmith recently opened their own museum to showcase items they’ve collected over their nearly 50 years together.

The exhibit presents a living timeline of the group’s career, featuring everything from Tyler’s high school drum set and an array of his signature scarfs to the band’s first press kit, original lyrics for “Walk This Way,” over 20 guitars played during iconic performances, and much more.

Guns N’ Roses: Steven Adler stabbing update

Following headlines that Steven Adler had stabbed himself in his Los Angeles, CA home and was rushed to an area hospital on Thursday, a representative for the former Guns N’ Roses drummer has issued a update on the matter.

The unnamed spokesperson tells TMZ that the stabbing was simply an accident and not a suicide attempt; without providing further details, the representative described it as a "very minor, superficial wound" while adding that Adler is still planning to perform a July 12 show at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas, NV.

The Los Angeles Police Department previously confirmed that local authorities responded to a 911 call shortly after 6:30 PM on June 27.

“Upon arrival, LAPD officers determined that there was no crime and the incident was being treated as a medical emergency only,” said LAPD officer Jeff Lee. “The subject was transported to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.”

Adler was fired from Guns N’ Roses in 1990 for excessive drug use, and has struggled with addiction issues for years.

As for Steven's past substance abuse, his representative tells TMZ that the rocker has been sober for several years.

Pink Floyd: Highest bidder at David Gilmour guitar auction revealed

The highest bidder at David Gilmour’s record-setting June 20 guitar auction at Christie’s in New York has been revealed.

Rolling Stone reports Jim Irsay, lifelong Pink Floyd fan and billionaire owner of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts, was the man responsible for spending a record-breaking $3,975,000 on Gilmour’s famed “Black Strat,” the Floyd frontman’s instrument of choice on the band’s iconic Seventies classics.

“I just love Pink Floyd, man, I cannot deny it,” says Irsay. “I think [Roger] Waters’ lyrics and Gilmour’s playing and their whole story and prominence is just so profound that I cannot say enough about my excitement for this. … David Gilmour stands by himself.”

Placing his bids through a proxy, Irsay picked up another Gilmour artifact just prior to snagging the Black Strat, dropping $175,000 on the Pink Floyd–branded flight case that housed the guitar for decades.

“If I don’t get the guitar, I’ll look like a jackass,” laughs the collector, who also owns axes originally played by Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Bob Dylan and Prince, among others. “But I love Strats, and this is the Strat. This is the one that was the signature guitar for those incredible Floyd leads.”

The Christie’s event also saw Irsay add a third Gilmour piece to his collection when he bid $1,095,000 for the 1969 Martin D-35 Gilmour used to record “Wish You Were Here.”

In total, the Floyd fan spent $5,245,000 on the three items, nearly 25 percent of the $21.5 million total the auction raised for Gilmour’s charity of choice, ClientEarth, which fights climate change.

The auction of more than 120 guitars from Gilmour’s personal collection attracted interest by 2,000 bidders from 66 countries.

Among the highlights were Gilmour’s 1954 White Fender Stratocaster #0001 used on several recordings, including “Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)”, which sold for $1,815,000; a 1955 Gibson Les Paul, also famous for the solo on “Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)”, sold for $447,000, a new auction record for a Gibson Les Paul; and, a rare Gretsch White Penguin 6134 purchased by David in 1980 went for $447,000 – a new auction record for a Gretsch.

Iron Maiden announce third round of releases in album reissue series

Iron Maiden have announced details for the third round of releases in their album reissue series.

A continuation of the veteran metal band’s remastered Studio Collection project – which saw 2014/2017’s black vinyl releases and 2015’s Mastered for iTunes project – the digipacks will present the track listing matching the original UK releases using audio taken from the same remasters as the 2015 hi-res digital releases.

Due July 26, the series will continue with 1992’s “Fear Of The Dark”, 1995’s “The X Factor”, 1998’s “Virtual XI” and 2000’s “Brave New World.”

As a bonus for collectors, one CD from each batch of releases will also be optionally available in a specially-artworked box featuring a 1:24 scale figurine and exclusive patch; in the latest round this will be “Fear Of The Dark.”

Issued chronologically in batches of four, the series launched last fall with the group’s first four records: 1980’s self-titled debut, 1981’s “Killers”, 1982’s “The Number Of The Beast” and 1983’s “Piece Of Mind.”

The run continued this past March with 1984’s “Powerslave”, 1986’s “Somewhere In Time”, 1988’s “Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son”, and 1990’s “No Prayer For The Dying.”

Iron Maiden will launch the North American leg of the 2019 Legacy Of The Beast tour in Sunrise, FL on July 18.

Former Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler hospitalized after stabbing himself

Former Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler has been hospitalized after allegedly stabbing himself in his Los Angeles, CA home.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ that someone at Adler's residence called 911 for assistance shortly after 6:30 PM Thursday night and, when authorities arrived, it was discovered the drummer had suffered a stab wound to his stomach.

People magazine reports that Los Angeles Police Department officer Jeff Lee confirmed that local authorities responded to the 911 call for a possible suicide attempt.

“Upon arrival, LAPD officers determined that there was no crime and the incident was being treated as a medical emergency only,” Lee tells People. “The subject was transported to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.”

Adler joined Guns N’ Roses in the spring of 1985 and appeared on the group’s 1987 debut, “Appetite For Destruction”, and 1988’s “G N' R Lies” (as well as “Civil War” on 1991’s “Use Your Illusion II”) before being fired in 1990 for excessive drug use.

The band’s classic lineup – including Adler – were inducted into the Rock And Roll Of Fame in 2012.

After years of lobbying for a full reunion, the drummer appeared alongside the trio of Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan in 2016 for a guest spot on a few dates during the band’s Not In This Lifetime tour.

VIDEO: Black Sabbath members attend Birmingham bridge ceremony

Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler were on hand for the official naming ceremony and unveiling of the “Black Sabbath Bridge” in the band’s Birmingham, UK hometown on June 26.

The pair arrived at the event aboard a narrowboat to unveil the new bridge signage from the canal in the city’s entertainment district.

Westside Business Improvement District (BID) has worked closely with the Canal & River Trust charity and Birmingham City Council to have the bridge renamed as “Black Sabbath Bridge.”

As well as the new bridge name, a uniquely designed heavy metal bench incorporating images of the band’s original four members will be permanently based on the bridge, and this is expected to become a major new tourist attraction for the city.

“Fantastic occasion, Birmingham made us very proud!,” said Iommi, who shared video footage from the event; check out a photo gallery at Birmingham Mail here.

The unveiling coincides with a major Home Of Metal exhibition celebrating Black Sabbath and the band’s legacy, which runs from June 26 to September 29 at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.

“Black Sabbath - 50 Years” features memorabilia, collections and personal stories that demonstrate the scale of the band’s international fan-base together with a vast photography collection of over 3,000 portraits of fans from all corners of the globe; further pieces also include iconic artifacts and treasured personal items on loan from the band members themselves.

Tickets for “Black Sabbath - 50 Years” are now available via homeofmetal.com.

Original Aerosmith tour van to be featured on History Channel series American Pickers

Aerosmith will be featured on a new episode of the History channel series American Pickers.

The band will be reunited with their original 1970s touring van after it was located last summer by hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz in the woods near Chesterfield, MA, about 110 miles west of Boston.

The rusted, 1964 International Harvester Metro was traced to the property’s owner, identified only as Phil, who said the previous owner had a connection to the group and the vehicle was there when he bought the land.

The pair reportedly paid $25,000 for the van and, after restoring it to its original condition, viewers will see Wolfe and Fritz deliver and reveal the vehicle to Aerosmith during a new episode filmed in Las Vegas, NV, where the band are currently playing shows as part of their “Deuces Are Wild” residency at the Park Theater at the Park MGM hotel.

American Pickers: “Aerosmith Van” premieres Monday, July 8 at 8pm ET/PT on History; fans can catch up on the story of the van in a three episode run airing on Monday, July 8 from 5pm - 8pm ET/PT.

VIDEO: The Rolling Stones stream 1997 single from Bridges To Bremen live package

The Rolling Stones are streaming video of a performance of their 1997 single, “Anybody Seen My Baby?”, from their just-released “Bridges To Bremen” package.

The tune was the first preview of the band’s “Bridges To Babylon” album, which reached No. 3 on the US Billboard 200 on its way to sales of more than one million copies in the country.

The record was supported with a year-long tour, which saw the group filmed in Bremen, Germany during the trek’s final leg, as captured on the new live release.

Footage of the 2.5 hour German concert before 40,000 fans has been meticulously restored from the original masters, and the audio remixed and remastered from the live multitrack recordings.

The 1997/98 tour marked a pair of firsts for the Stones, including the band using a permanent B-stage in the middle of the crowd, and the opportunity for fans to vote via the group's website for a track they wanted to hear at the show in their city.

“Bridges To Bremen” is now available in multiple packages, including digital, DVD + 2CD, Blu-ray + 2CD, triple vinyl and digital audio.

The project was issued on the same day The Rolling Stones opened their 2019 No Filter tour in Chicago, IL, which marked the return of Mick Jagger to the concert stage following heart valve replacement surgery in April.

The WorldWired tour stop marked the first time in nearly 31 years that Metallica played a show in Brussels, and only their third appearance ever in the city.

The group are currently on a two-week break from the European leg of the series, which opened in Lisbon, Portugal on May 1 and will resume in Berlin, Germany on July 6.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, which are comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

Produced by multi-instrumentalist Ron Aniello and recorded primarily at Springsteen’s home studio in New Jersey, “Western Stars” includes appearances by Patti Scialfa, David Sancious, Charlie Giordano and Soozie Tyrell, among many others.

The project was launched with the lead single, “Hello Sunshine”, which has been followed by “There Goes My Miracle”, “Tuscon Train” and the title track.

VIDEO: The Rolling Stones open No Filter tour in Chicago

photo: Soldier Field, Chicago

The Rolling Stones opened the 2019 No Filter tour at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL on June 21.

The event – which marked the return of Mick Jagger to the concert stage following heart valve replacement surgery in April – saw the group deliver a 22-song set of classic tracks – from set-opener “Street Fighting Man” to show-closer “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” before a sold-out crowd of 60,000 fans.

As Rob Sheffield of Rolling Stone notes, “Mick was extra Mick tonight, as if maybe somewhere deep in that surgically reconstructed heart of stone, he felt he had something to prove. If so, he proved it. The show was a triumph for the World’s Greatest Rock & Roll Band, with Mick prancing all over the stadium in prime hip-shaking, troubadour-trapping fight mode.”

“Mick’s moves all night had a defiant ‘told you so’ vibe, coming back so soon after his heart surgery,’ he added. “You were worried whether this guy was in peak condition? Picture yourself moving like this on the best day of your damn life.”

“Thank you Chicago for a great opening night!,” posted the band on social media after the show; they’ll return to the venue on June 25 for the second date of the summer series.

VIDEO: Clutch performs new single Evil at UK’s Download Festival

Clutch are streaming live video of their cover of the 1950s Willie Dixon blues standard, “Evil”, as captured during the band’s performance at the UK’s Download Festival on June 14.

The Maryland rockers recently issued the track as the first song from "The Weathermaker Vault Series", which will deliver a number of new studio recordings throughout the year.

The tune marks Clutch’s first new release since 2018’s "Book Of Bad Decisions”, which peaked at No. 16 on the US Billboard 200.

Currently on the road in Europe, the group will return Stateside for more US shows - including the third edition of their own Earth Rocker Festival at Shiley Acres in Inwood, WV on Saturday, July 13.

Just prior to their appearance at Download, Clutch announced dates for a winter tour of the UK and Europe that will begin in Wiesbaden, Germany on December 2.

“Download was our first show in Europe for 2019 and it was baptism by fire!,” says the band. “We’re already looking forward to returning to The UK in December. See you then!”

Allman Brothers Band to release Fillmore West '71 package

The Allman Brothers Band have announced plans to release an archival live package, “Fillmore West '71” – documenting the band’s three-show series at the famed San Francisco, CA venue – as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations.

Due August 16, the 4CD set presents material captured in concert in late January of 1971, just two months ahead of the group’s recording of the legendary live album, “At Fillmore East”, at the chain’s New York location.

Compiled from reel-to-reel soundboard masters, the project sees the lineup of Duane Allman, Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Jaimoe, Berry Oakley and Butch Trucks deliver tracks from their self-titled 1969 debut and 1970’s “Idlewild South”, as well as the new instrumental "Hot 'Lanta"; the set also adds a March, 1970 version of "Mountain Jam" from the Warehouse in New Orleans, LA that clocks in at 45 minutes long.

Kirk West – who served as the "Tour Mystic" and official archivist for the Allman Brothers Band for over 20 years – played a pivotal role in re-acquiring the original live performance two-track, reel-to-reel tapes used for this release from legendary band crew members Twiggs Lyndon, Joe Dan Petty and Mike Callahan, who were the original care takers of these recordings.

The tapes had been stored in closets and attics for many years, necessitating careful transfers and several successive attempts at restoration, as technology continued to improve.

Long before his association with the group, West was on hand for the Fillmore West shows.

"I was living in Palo Alto with a bunch of hippie kids who, by and large, were Dead Heads. I had moved to California from Chicago, and I already was a big Allman Brothers fan," recalls West. "I was insisting that everyone in the house go up to the Fillmore that weekend - 'Let's go, let's go - the Brothers are in town, playing with Hot effin' Tuna."

The Allman Brothers Band are previewing “Fillmore West ‘71” with an audio stream of their take on the Muddy Waters classic, "Trouble No More."
