Led Zeppelin: Jimmy Page upset at London Olympics snub
Led Zeppelin guitar legend Jimmy Page isn’t very pleased with the London Olympics these days.
Page helped promote the London event at the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, where he performed “Whole Lotta Love” next to a red double-decker bus with UK singer Leona Lewis.
The Telegraph reports the guitarist is very “upset” that he has not been invited to attend, let alone perform at, the opening ceremony of the London Games.
“Of course, I’m feeling rather hurt,” he tells Mandrake at the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the Arts at the Royal Academy. “We put so much into Beijing, but weren’t helped by the Chinese giving us next-to-no practice time.”
The London Olympics run July 27 through August 12.

Former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Izzy Stradlin joined his old band – or what’s left of it – on stage at the O2 Arena in London on Thursday.
Stradlin teamed up with GNR to perform the songs "14 Years," "You Could Be Mine," "Dead Flowers," "Knockin' On Heaven's Door," "Nightrain," and "Paradise City."
Stradlin’s last appearance with a GNR lineup came in 2006.
Check out some photos of Izzy with the band in London, below...
Izzy and GNR’s original lineup - Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKagan, Steven Adler - along with later additions Matt Sorum and Dizzy Reed, were officially inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame last month as part of the Class Of 2012, which also included the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Beastie Boys, The Small Faces/The Faces, Donovan and Laura Nyro.
Stradlin, Axl and Dizzy passed on attending the Cleveland event, but Izzy did release a statement to acknowledge it, just days after Rose made headlines refusing the honor.
"I have waited up to this point to see what would become of the GN'R induction into Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame,” write Stradlin. “I would like to say THANK YOU and GRACIAS to Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame for the acknowledgement of our works over the years as a band. BIG THANKS to all my bandmates who helped get us to where we are today. And, of course, THANK YOU to all of the people on this planet (including, but not limited to, the entire universe and beyond, etc., etc., etc.) who have supported Guns N’ Roses from day one. Adios, Amigos!"

Valerie Bertinelli blamed for Van Halen’s 1985 split with David Lee Roth
Van Halen’s label rep at Warner Music in the band’s early years blames Valerie Bertinelli for the group’s 1985 split with singer David Lee Roth.
In a new interview with LA Weekly, former Warner Music artist development director Ted Cohen says the arrival of Bertinelli on the scene in 1980 began to drive a wedge between the members of the group, Yoko Ono–style.
(Neither Van Halen's nor Bertinelli's management responded to repeated requests by LA Weekly for comment.)
The actress believed Eddie Van Halen should receive the lion's share of the credit for the band's triumphs, whereas Roth was essentially expendable, Cohen says. Cohen believed differently, however: "David was an integral part of the band's success. He was brilliant."
As a result of Bertinelli's interference, Cohen adds, Eddie began distancing himself from the band, staying in his hotel room and not spending as much off time with the others.
Cohen recalls the guitarist pouring his heart out to him at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas, which had recently been purchased by Wayne Newton, shortly after Van Halen and Bertinelli wed in 1981. They spoke from 3 a.m. until dawn, watching workmen in a crane replacing the existing Aladdin sign with a neon one. "We kept hitting the minibar in the room and we got toasted," Cohen remembers, "and I just felt really bad because Eddie was so utterly depressed."
Had he erred in marrying Bertinelli? Cohen asked him. "I've made a terrible mistake," Van Halen affirmed with a glum look. (Why the couple stayed together for decades afterward remains a mystery to the record-company man.)
Meanwhile, after a tumultuous relationship reportedly tarnished by substance abuse and infidelity, Van Halen and Bertinelli divorced in 2005. Cohen was not surprised to see Roth reinstated with the band a year later. "If Valerie had never appeared on the scene," he opines, "David would probably have never been kicked out in the first place."

Robert Plant: Band Of Joy live DVD due this summer
A live DVD from Robert Plant’s Band Of Joy is on its way.
Billboard reports the Band Of Joy’s live set, filmed at Nashville's War Memorial Auditorium for the TV series "Live From The Artists Den," will be released on DVD and Blu Ray on July 10.
The DVD of "Robert Plant & the Band of Joy: Live from the Artists Den" includes performances of three Led Zeppelin classics - "Black Dog," "Houses of the Holy" and "Tangerine" - that were not part of the initial broadcast on public television stations.
Other songs included that did not make the initial cut are "In the Mood" from his solo disc "Principle of Moments," and the traditional "I Bid You Good Night." The DVD features bonus interview clips as well.
In the liner notes, Plant writes "Some years back I was propelled by chance, with little planning or expectation into an American way…with a lean and pull into a new direction…voices and harmony, restraint and explosion, tight and loose, great joy in great company… in a blizzard in Nashville."
Robert created Band of Joy with guitarist Buddy Miller and singer Patty Griffin after his success with Alison Krauss on "Raising Sand," his 2007 release that led to five Grammy wins.
Plant's "Band of Joy" album, the title is a reference to the group he formed with John Bonham prior to Led Zeppelin, peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 in October 2010. It has sold 232,000 copies, according to Soundscan figures.

In addition to live appearances, Frehley is working on a new album and a second book, following up last year’s “No Regrets: A Rock ‘N’ Roll Memoir.”

And there just wasn’t enough room to put them into ‘No Regrets,’ and I was past the deadline as it was. But I think I’m going to come out with something in the effect of like a ‘No Regrets II.’”
Frehley’s "No Regrets: A Rock 'N' Roll Memoir" debuted at #10 on the New York Times "Hardcover Nonfiction" best sellers list upon its release last fall.

Def Leppard to play rare club gig for YouTube Presents
Def Leppard have announced that they’ll play an exclusive "YouTube Presents" club gig at House of Blues Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, CA on Wednesday, June 6 at 2:30PM (PST),
Fans will be admitted to this FREE show on a first-come, first-served basis.
The show itself will be followed by a Q&A of fan questions.
Both the performance and Q&A will be available on YouTube on Thursday, June 7th at 12pm PST (3PM EST) at youtube.com/presents
June will be busy for Leppard, as the UK rockers celebrate the summer of "Rock of Ages" by releasing newly-recorded versions of "Pour Some Sugar On Me" and "Rock Of Ages" on June 4.
Leppard have also billed their summer tour as Rock Of Ages, after the band’s hit from their 1983 release, “Pyromania,” and the upcoming Broadway play-turned-movie starring Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand and Julianne Hough.
The soundtrack to the upcoming film will be released June 5 — ten days before the movie hits theatres. "Rock Of Ages: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" includes Cruise's renditions of Leppard’s "Pour Some Sugar On Me" and Guns N’ Roses’ "Paradise City."
The Rock Of Ages tour, which features Leppard with Poison and Lita Ford, kicks off June 20 in Salt Lake City.

VIDEO: Slash joins Ozzy Osbourne for Black Sabbath classics in Norway
Black Sabbath’s plans for a full reunion album and tour this year were put on hold when guitarist Tony Iommi announced in January that he had been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphocytes, a type of cell that forms part of the immune system.
Iommi’s illness and timely treatment – including chemotherapy, steroids and radiotherapy – scaled Sabbath’s reunion plans down to three dates: a May 19 show in their hometown of Birmingham, the Download Festival in June and Lollapalooza in August.
Drummer Bill Ward also decided to sit out the reunion, for now, while he seeks a better contractual situation while negotiating with an unknown band representative.
The previously scheduled Sabbath shows have been replaced with an “Ozzy Osbourne & Friends” series of concerts, which started recently.
The Ozzy fill-in show played the Bergen Calling festival in Bergen, Norway on Monday night, and the band was joined for a few Black Sabbath classics by Slash.

VIDEO: Iron Maiden singer introduces his new aircraft maintenance business
A few weeks ago, Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson announced the launch of his major commercial airline maintenance repair and overhaul operation in South Wales.
Dickinson’s Cardiff Aviation is based at the Twin Peaks hangar at St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan.
“We’re coming into this enterprise with the knowledge that we’ll also be bringing business to South Wales,” said Bruce at the time. “A cautious projection is that we’d expect to create up to a thousand jobs within 18 months based on the level of interest and commitment from aircraft manufacturers and operators.”
“South Wales has long had an association with the aircraft industry and I am delighted that I am able to have a small part in the continuation of that tradition,” he added.
A licensed pilot, Dickinson has flown for commercial airlines in addition to flying Maiden around the world in the band‘s customized Boeing 757 called Ed Force One.
Now, Dickinson has put together a guided video tour of Cardiff Aviation - check it out below.
As for Maiden, the band recently released a live DVD entitled “En Vivo!,” filmed in Santiago, Chile during the Round The World In 66 Days leg of The Final Frontier World Tour.
Maiden return to the live stage when the band kicks off a 2012 North American tour on June 21 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

VIDEO: Van Halen discuss early musical inspirations
Van Halen are sharing more footage from their self-interview series.
The latest video to surface features singer David Lee Roth sitting down with Eddie and Alex Van Halen to reminisce about their original musical inspirations.
Among the topics discussed by the guys are things like the the first song that made them want to play their particular instruments and the first album they ever bought.
“First record I ever bought was Dave Clark Five, ‘Glad All Over,’” says Eddie. Originally a drummer, Ed was turned on by the song’s thundering drum sound.
“The first one I remember was a Louie Bellson record; it was a 78 [rpm],” explains Alex. “Bellson was the drummer for Duke Ellington, Count Basie…he was the first double-kick [drum guy].”
“First record I bought was The Beatles’ second record,” says Roth. “’Roll Over Beethoven’ was the first song, and that had a superb impact one me, cause I didn’t know, at the time, that that was a cover tune.”

These four tracks that comprise Texicali were produced by Rubin and the band’s Billy F Gibbons, and include “I Gotsta Get Paid,” “Chartreuse,” “Over You” and “Consumption.”
The first of these is heard in a just-launched campaign for the Jeremiah Weed line of malt beverages that has generated tremendous on-line buzz for the video that depicts Billy, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard performing - to the delight and amazement of the patrons of a convenience store - in a walk-in cooler. “I Gotsta Get Paid,” based on the underground 1990s rap song “25 Lighters,” is also heard on the soundtrack to the international box office hit, "Battleship."
The title of the collection is a reference to the locations where the album was recorded. founding of ZZ Top more than 42 years ago and an acknowledgement that the band’s line-up has remained constant ever since.
“Based on the visibility of the ‘Gotsta Get Paid’ song, we decided to make available more of a taste of the album than just the one song,” said Rubin. “That’s the beauty of the new digital landscape; we can put out what we want when we want, in the best service of the artist.”
“We were itching to get some new music out before the full album release,” added Gibbons. “Making available these four tracks seems like a good way to accomplish that most expeditiously. Dusty, Frank and I are happy with what’s been accomplished in the studio so we figured we’d provide some hot and tasty ‘hors d’oeuvres’ before the main course is served this fall.”
The band embarks this week as the headliner for a six-week “Gang of Outlaws” tour that includes bills shared with 3 Doors Down and Gretchen Wilson; following that, ZZ Top departs for Europe where they will be playing concert and festival dates in Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, France, Switzerland and Norway in July. Additional North American dates are planned for August and September.

Sebastian Bach: 4 of 5 Skid Row members want reunion
A Skid Row reunion may be closer than fans think.
Despite years of saying it would never happen, Sebastian Bach has come forward to update fans on the possibility of such an event.
"Four out of five [members of the classic Skid Row lineup] want to do it. Believe it or not, I am one of the four who would do it," tweeted Bach on Sunday in response to a fan question about the situation.

There’s no word of which band member is holding things up on the possible project.
This news comes on the heels of comments made by Bach last month, when he told the Boise Music Examiner there was music industry interest in a Skid Row reunion.
"We [Skid Row] got offered a couple of reunion shows,” said the singer. “A lot of the time people say, ‘How come you aren't together?' and I've never been offered any reunion with those guys until this year. There was a couple of offers for this Knebworth gig in England. Sonisphere… And they actually printed up a poster, 'KISS with special guests Skid Row,' and that was actually a real thing, but those guys [the current members of Skid Row] did not want to do it."
Bach either left Skid Row, or was fired – depending on who’s telling the story – in 1996 after a disagreement with band members on whether or not the band should open for KISS; Bach felt they should while the others disagreed. Four years later, irony had its way when the band - without Bach – opened for KISS on their 2000 (ahem) “Farewell” tour.

VIDEO: Judas Priest play final show of farewell world tour
Judas Priest played the final show of their “Epitaph” world tour Saturday in London.
The band’s year-long farewell trek kicked off last June in Holland, and has been around the globe.
Epitaph saw the introduction of guitarist Richie Faulkner to the Priest fold, following the sudden retirement of Kenneth “K.K.” Downing just six weeks before the tour’s launch.
Upon announcing the “farewell” tour, Priest clarified the band’s status as the trip was not going to be their final shows but, rather, their last extensive world tour.
"When we issued our press release to announce the farewell tour,” said the band last June, “we stated that it was the last major world tour for Judas Priest. Nothing has changed — we didn't say it was the end of the band or that we were going to retire or the band was going to break up... just that it would be the last major world tour we would be doing, which is still the case.”
"We have plans for a new album, plus possible future releases, and we would still consider doing the odd live show — if it is something special or for a great cause — but no more world tours."
Saturday’s sold-out gig at the Hammersmith Apollo in London was professionally filmed for a 2013 DVD release.

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band’s “Wrecking Ball” tour is currently in its third week of shows across Europe.
Bruce’s latest release debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart back in the spring. With sales of 196,000, Springsteen just barely outsold Adele’s “21” (195,000) to bump it from the top spot, where it had been for 23 non-consecutive weeks.
“Wrecking Ball” is Bruce’s tenth #1 album on Billboard, which ties the New Jersey rocker with Elvis Presley for the third most #1’s in history; only The Beatles (with 19) and Jay-Z (12) have more.
Springsteen has released the video for the project's latest single, “Rocky Ground.”
