Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson streams new song Cherry Lopez Lullaby
Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson is streaming a new instrumental entitled “Cherry Lopez Lullaby.”
“This was written during the mix session of ‘Clockwork Angels’ while in LA for months starting early 2012,” explains Lifeson. “I did an interview with High Times and the interviewer brought along a friend, an esteemed grower who provided a sample of his creation named Cherry Lopez. Because I was on an EST body clock, I was up most mornings @ 5:00 AM. I'd order coffee, sit on my hotel room balcony, read the paper and wake and bake then dive into making some fun sounds while the city was waking up.
“I had some borrowed acoustic and electric guitars for the duration, thankfully, as sitting around waiting to go to the studio was tedious and certainly, a bowl of Cherry kept my appetite healthy.”
The latest tune from the Rush guitarist follows the release earlier this year his first new music in close to a decade; issued in sync with the launch of a new signature guitar line with Epiphone, Lifeson debuting two brand new songs: "Kabul Blues" and "Spy House."
Rush performed their final concert in Los Angeles in 2015; drummer Neil Peart passed away in January of 2020 at the age of 67 after a three-and-a-half year battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer, Glioblastoma.

Slash shares story behind new single The River Is Rising
Slash is sharing the story behind his new single, “The River Is Rising”, the lead track from his forthcoming album with Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators.
"'The River Is Rising' is the newest song that I wrote on the record,” Slash explains in a new video. “Right before we went into pre-production, I just made up this riff and it turned into 'The River Is Rising'. So it's the most recent-written song on the record. It's very spontaneous. I can't even remember how it all came together; it came together really quickly. But it rocks. And I thought it would be a good track for the opening of the record."
Due February 11, “4” marks the guitarist’s fifth solo album and fourth overall with his band featuring Kennedy, drummer Brent Fitz, bassist Todd Kerns and guitarist Frank Sidoris.
The group recorded the set with producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile) at the historic RCA Studio A to Nashville, TN, capturing the new material with a series of full band performances live in the studio.
Slash and the band will launch “4” with a North American tour that will begin in Portland, OR on February 8.

Queen prepare for 1986 Magic Tour on 50th anniversary series
Queen prepare for their legendary 1986 Magic Tour on the latest episode of their 50th anniversary video series The Greatest.
Rejuvenated by their history-making Live Aid performance a year earlier, and the success of their “A Kind Of Magic” album, June 1986 saw Queen return to touring for what would be the biggest series of concerts of their career, and although the band had played vast venues before, there was a sense that this tour would take it to another level…
“It’s a strange thing with our band, the bigger the audience the better it seems to work,” explained Roger Taylor before the tour. "The audience contact seems to be better with the larger audiences.”
Queen would play 26 performances at twenty separate locations in the UK and nine European countries over an eight-week period including their first and only show in Budapest, Hungary.
In the first of a two-part episode on the Magic Tour, the band share their thoughts on returning to the road.
“Once you’re on tour, I like to get on and do it. I don’t like to be hanging around on tour,” shared Brian May. “I like to get in as much as you can because you can build up this great rhythm, and you get into the mood and the feel of playing, you play better each night, I think. If you see us at the end of the tour, we are a lot different from what we are at the beginning of the tour, because we’re in that rhythm.
“I suppose it’s almost like being an athlete, you just work on yourself and you have nothing else to think about, except doing your bit for that two hours as well as you can.”
“There was a trend a few years ago, with the punk movement and whatever, where they said, ‘Oh, we want to play to the small audiences because we’re being intimate, and all that,’” added Freddie Mercury. “Load of rubbish. I mean everybody who wants to be a star wants to play to the biggest audiences.”

Ozzy Osbourne and Lemmy get animated in new Hellraiser video
Ozzy Osbourne is streaming an animated video for his 1991 track, “Hellraiser”, featuring Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead, from the recently-issued 30th anniversary digital release of his “No More Tears” album.
The 2021 mix presents the first-ever official version of the song featuring both rockers; “Hellraiser” was one of four songs on Osbourne’s sixth album that were co-written by Lemmy – alongside “Mama, I’m Coming Home,” “I Don’t Want To Change The World” and “Desire”, while Motorhead would go on to record their own version for their 1992 album, “March Or Die.”
“I’m so glad we were able to honor my dear friend Lemmy with this duet and now the video,” says Ozzy. “We immortalized him with a clip of the two of us being together, hanging out and getting into some trouble as we so often did.”
The Motorhead founder passed away in 2015 at the age of 70 from prostate cancer, cardiac arrhythmia, and congestive heart failure.
The expanded 30th anniversary digital reissue of “No More Tears” features the original album alongside bonus material that includes a mix of demos and live recordings from the era.
“No More Tears” reached No. 7 on the Billboard 200 on its way to sales of more than 4 million copies in the region, making it Osbourne’s second best-selling record after his 1980 debut, “Blizzard Of Oz.”
“Hellraiser” will be issued as a stand-alone release on Ozzy’s birthday, December 3; the special 10” black vinyl single will feature three versions of the song: the new 30th anniversary edition and the classic original Ozzy track with Motorhead’s version of the same song as the B-side.
Osbourne has just announced plans to release an expanded 40th anniversary digital edition of his 1981 classic, “Diary Of A Madman”, on November 5.

Metallica host MasterClass on being a band
Metallica have teamed up with streaming platform MasterClass to teach a class on being a band.
In celebration of the group's 40th anniversary and as the first rock band to teach on MasterClass, James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo will reflect on four decades of music while giving members a window into their journey to teach strategies for growing and staying together as a band, collaborating creatively and maintaining a unique and intimate relationship with a loyal legion of fans.
In their class, Metallica will unpack the principles that ensure longevity as a group by being effective communicators, managing criticism and navigating collaboration. Breaking down some of their greatest hits, including "Enter Sandman" and "Master Of Puppets", they will provide techniques for songwriting, taking members through the process of a song from its conception as a riff to its finished arrangement, complete with lyrics, solos and moments of dynamic tension.
In addition, Metallica will dive deep into the audience-performer relationship, sharing advice on how to connect with fans on stage and off, and how to cultivate and maintain these lifelong relationships. Their philosophies on writing lyrics, creating albums and sustaining a band's interpersonal relationships over time will help aspiring musicians come together as a unified creative team. Members in creative fields will appreciate the band's insights on how to offer constructive feedback, communicate effectively when strong personalities are involved, and take a pragmatic approach to the necessities of business.
"We have sustained our bond for more than 40 years because we've learned a lot about each other and ourselves over time," says cofounder and frontman James Hetfield. "In our class we not only teach MasterClass members how we write songs and find inspiration for our music, but how the experiences we've had together have contributed to successful creative collaboration."
Metallica will wrap up the sessions with an exclusive six-song performance.
MasterClass gives viewers an opportunity to learn from the world's best across a wide range of subjects, including arts & entertainment, business, design and style, sports and gaming, writing and more.
Metallica's class is now available exclusively on MasterClass, where subscribers get unlimited access to all 100+ instructors with an annual membership.

Tom Petty Wildflowers documentary coming to YouTube
Tom Petty’s team have announced that a documentary about the making of his 1994 album, “Wildflowers”, is coming to YouTube next month.
Following its premiere last week in cinemas worldwide, “Tom Petty, Somewhere You Feel Free: The Making of Wildflowers” will be streaming worldwide on November 11th for free in 4K resolution as part of the YouTube Originals series.
Directed by Mary Wharton, the project offers an intimate look into the making of the rocker’s second solo effort through the period of 1993-1995 as he worked with producer Rick Rubin for the first time.
The film presents archival footage of Petty and his band in the recording studio, behind-the-scenes on tour, and at home with his family, and includes never-before-seen video from a newly discovered archive of 16mm film, as well as new interviews with Wildflowers co-producer and Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell along with Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench, and many more.
The documentary comes on the heels of the release of a 2020 series of expanded editions of the 1994 record, which Petty wrote and recorded as a double album before his record label convinced him to trim it back to a single record; almost two decades later, “Wildflowers & All The Rest” delivered the second half of the album as originally intended.

Springsteen was on hand to promote the October 26 release of his new book, “Renegades: Born In The USA”, which he co-authored with President Barack Obama and whose title was inspired by the pair’s recent podcast series, “Renegades.”
While discussing how his dedication to his craft as a musician consumed his early years as an artist, the rocker revealed that he eventually found a balance between life and his art.
“Love my job, great way to make a living, no way to live,” explained Springsteen. “If you fully subsume yourself in it, it’s no way to live. There have been many, many artists previous to me and my peers that didn’t figure that out and it could be very, very, very dangerous to you mentally, physically … not cleaving between your work life and your family life and your home life,”
Springsteen showed off the guitar that is featured on the iconic cover of his 1975 album, “Born To Run.”
“I’ve played this guitar for 50 years,” he explained. “I bought it when I was 22 for $185 dollars on Highway 34 in Belmar, N.J. from a great guitar man named Phil Petillo, and I’ve had it ever since. It’s kind of a mutt. It’s made up of two different guitars, but this guitar has been in every club, theater, arena and stadium across America and most of the world. So, it’s been around a bit.”
“This (guitar) feels like my arm,” he added. “If I have this guitar, I don’t have anything on. This became an extension of my actual body. Anything else I pick up, it’s a guitar. For some reason, I’ve played this for so long that it became a natural part of your physique. I don’t play it much on stage these days. I sort of put it a little out to pasture; it’s done so much good work for me.”
Prior to his performance, Springsteen shared footage from the November 19 release of “The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts”, which saw him performing at New York’s Madison Square Garden on his 30th birthday.

Metallica announce rescheduled South American tour dates
Metallica have announced rescheduled dates for their twice-postponed South American tour.
The six-show series, with guests Greta Van Fleet, was originally scheduled for April 2020 before the global health crisis shut down the live music industry; Metallica had rebooked the concerts for December 2020 before being forced to move them a second time.
“As the saying goes, the third time is the charm, and we’re excited to be in this space today to announce the re-rescheduled South American tour dates!,” says Metallica. “For those of you who have hung in there with us over the last 18 months since the original shows were supposed to happen, thank you for your tremendous patience! We truly cannot wait to finally visit South America for the first time in almost five years in April/May of 2022 as we head back for the originally planned six headlining shows, including two Brazilian cities we have never played in: Belo Horizonte and Curitiba. Still on board for the ride to open the show are our friends in Greta Van Fleet.
“Hang on to your tickets from those originally scheduled shows way back in April of 2020, as they will be honored for the new dates. Where applicable, refund information is below; we encourage you to visit the website or location where you purchased your tickets for additional details should you be unable to join us in the spring of 2022. Please note that the Buenos Aires show is back to the original location of Campo Argentino de Polo, and tickets are still available for most shows.”
“We wish you, your families, and your loved ones good health as we turn the page to the next chapter of this difficult time,” adds the band. “We cannot wait to spend time in person with our extended Metallica family next year!”

The Rolling Stones stream Tattoo You rarities
The Rolling Stones are streaming a collection of previously-unreleased rarities from the newly-available 40th anniversary reissue of their 1981 album, “Tattoo You.”
The songs on the set’s Lost & Found disc were from the period of the record’s original release, and were recently completed and enhanced with additional vocals and guitar by the band.
The nine tracks – which were first previewed ahead of the project’s October 22 arrival with the reissue’s lead single, “Living In The Heart Of Love”, and a cover of the Chi-Lites’ 1970 tune, “Troubles a’ Comin”” – also include a version of "Shame, Shame, Shame," first recorded in 1963 by one of the band's blues heroes, Jimmy Reed; their reading of Dobie Gray's "Drift Away", and a reggae-tinged version of "Start Me Up."
The original record has been remastered for 2021 as a standalone set, with some packages featuring a 1982 concert from London’s Wembley Stadium.
Upon its original release, “Tattoo You” was the group’s last album to hit No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 while reaching the Top 5 in more than a dozen countries.
“It’s a funny album,” Mick Jagger recently revealed to Rolling Stone about “Tattoo You”. “It’s not an album where you can say we went into X studio, we spent six months and this is the album. It’s just tracks that got recorded any time from 1972 to 1981. It wasn’t really an album. It was all over the place. It doesn’t have a kind of center.”
“Tattoo You” 40th Anniversary Editions are now available in a multiple formats, including CD, LP and digital, Deluxe 2CD and 2LP versions, and 4CD and 5LP Super Deluxe Boxset.
The Rolling Stones are currently playing dates on their rescheduled No Filter US tour, which will wrap up at the Hard Rock Live Arena in Hollywood, FL on November 23.
