Green Day announce NHL partnership deal

Green Day has entered into a two-year, cross-platform marketing and promotional partnership with the National Hockey League.

The deal will see the band’s yet-to-be-released song called "Fire, Ready, Aim," off their forthcoming thirteenth studio album, "Father Of All… ", serve as the opening theme song for NBCSN's Wednesday Night Hockey, debuting with the New Jersey Devils vs. Philadelphia Flyers game on Wednesday, October 9, at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

In addition, "Fire, Ready, Aim" will be featured on NHL on NBC broadcasts throughout the 2019-20 season.

Produced by NBC Sports, a high-energy show open that features the band playing their new song on a hockey rink interspersed with action shots of more than a dozen NHL players, including Tuukka Rask of the Boston Bruins, Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks, Dylan Larkin of the Detroit Red Wings, PK Subban of the New Jersey Devils, Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Vladimir Tarasenko of the St. Louis Blues and Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals, among others, will debut next week.

Songs from Green Day's new album will be featured in NHL game highlights, broadcast bumpers, tune-in campaigns, and in-arena jumbotron content created and distributed by the NHL, its teams and television partners NBC Sports Group, Sportsnet and TVA Sports across their respective broadcast, digital and social platforms. The partnership includes performances, appearances and other collaborations.

Green Day will perform at the 2020 NHL All-Star Game in St. Louis, MO in primetime on Saturday, January 25 (8 p.m. ET, NBC, Sportsnet, CBC, TVA Sports).

"This NHL season is hereby known as LOUD season...where the toughest athletes to ever lace up a pair of skates meet the baddest rock band on the planet,” says Green Day. “So turn up the volume on your TV sets, fire, ready, aim and enjoy the ride."

"Green Day is the perfect band for the NHL,” adds NHL Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President Steve Mayer. “Their music fits so perfectly with the energy, speed and power that we witness on the ice and each and every night. We are so excited to start this partnership with the NBC Sports open. It was so much fun to shoot and we think our fans will love it."

Green Day will embark on a global stadium tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer; the Hella Mega Tour kicks off June 13 in Paris and will visit cities throughout Europe, the U.K. and North America.

Due February 7, “Father Of All…” marks the follow-up Green Day’s 2016 album, “Revolution Radio”, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200; the project has been previewed with the title track serving as the set’s lead single.

David Lee Roth says Van Halen is finished

David Lee Roth says that Van Halen is "finished" in a new interview promoting his upcoming residency in Las Vegas.

Asked if he was "bummed out" that he couldn't tour with the band this past summer – as he had hinted would happen – Roth tells WRIF Detroit’s Meltdown: "That's been canceled a number of times, and I think Van Halen's finished and this is the next phase. I've inherited the band de facto – whatever that means. I think it means if you inherit it, carry this proudly.

“Van Halen isn't gonna be coming back in the fashion that you know. And that being said, Eddie's got his own story to tell…not mine to tell it."

Listen to Roth on the “Talking Rock With Meltdown” podcast at wrif.com.

Roth’s latest remarks come on the heels of comments he made earlier this month about the band’s status, telling KSLX Phoenix, AZ: "I'm the face of Van Halen from this point on, most likely. I'm not sure what's happening with Ed, but he's probably not gonna answer the bell this time. And it's not my place to guess. But we've been in touch. The fellows who I'm working with in terms of my road crew and the amps come from Van Halen."

When asked if he was implying that the guitar icon has been dealing with some health issues, the singer added: "I hear all the same rumors that you do and it's not my place to guess."

Van Halen have been on an extended hiatus since the completion of a 2015 tour; the band’s most recent studio release is 2012’s “A Different Kind Of Truth.”

The group will release a new box set entitled “The Japanese Singles 1978-1984” on November 1; the package collects all 13 7” vinyl singles issued in Japan during the band’s original era, from the band’s 1978 self-titled debut to their sixth album, “1984.”

Roth will launch his Las Vegas residency at the House Of Blues at Mandalay Bay Resort And Casino with a three-show run in January and a six-night series in March.

"David Lee Roth: Rocks Vegas" will see the rocker deliver a changing set of 26 instantly recognizable songs, from Van Halen and his solo career.

VIDEO: Foo Fighters reveal new album plans during Rock In Rio performance

Dave Grohl revealed the Foo Fighters’ plans for new music during their September 28 headlining set at Rock In Rio in Brazil, and video of the full performance is streaming online.

Currently playing a series of South American dates in support of 2017's "Concrete And Gold", the frontman told the crowd: "I don't know when we'll be back down here again, but we will. We go home next week and we start making a new Foo Fighters record. It's good, it's good."

The group’s ninth album debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 upon its release; the set was co-produced by the band and Greg Kurstin (Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Sia) and mixed by Darrell Thorp (Beck, Radiohead).

The project earned the Foo Fighters a 2018 Grammy Award in the “Best Rock Song” category – a songwriters award – for “Run”, while the tune lost out in the “Best Rock Performance” field to a song by sentimental favourite Leonard Cohen.

Cream: Ginger Baker health update

The family of Cream drummer Ginger Baker are sharing an update on the rock legend’s status as he remains in hospital with an undisclosed illness.

“UPDATE! Ginger is holding his own & thank you for all your good wishes,” shared the family via social media on September 29. “He is receiving visits from close family & very special friends.”

Baker’s urgent health status was first revealed on September 25: “The Baker family are sad to announce that Ginger is critically ill in hospital. Please keep him in your prayers tonight."

The rocker has faced a number of health issues in recent years, including degenerative osteoarthritis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Baker, Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce formed one of the first high-profile power trios in rock, Cream, in London in 1966; the lineup are widely regarded as the world's first rock supergroup.

Cream issued three albums – 1996’s “Fresh Cream”, 1967’s “Disraeli Gears”, 1968’s “Wheels Of Fire” – before playing a farewell tour that ended with two shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall in November of 1968, and releasing a live and studio set, “Goodbye”, the following year.

VIDEO: Queen and Adam Lambert headline Global Citizen Festival

Queen and Adam Lambert headlined the 2019 Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park on September 28.

NBC News reports more than 60,000 people attended the seventh annual event that mixes musical performances with activism aimed at ending poverty throughout the world by 2030.

Queen and Lambert rocked a 13-song set of classic tracks, opening with 1974’s “Now I’m Here” and highlighting their 1975 smash, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, before closing with the one-two punch of “We Will Rock You” and “We Are The Champions.”

“We’re asking fans to take action to ask certain governments around the world...to take part in helping take care of our oceans,” said Lambert on the issue of climate change. “Fish and wildlife in the ocean are literally gagging on pieces of plastic and it’s killing them.”

Organized by Global Citizen, the five-hour event also delivered performances by artists including Alicia Keys, Pharell Williams and OneRepublic, and comes on the heels of the Global Climate Strike led by teen activist Greta Thunberg and the U.N. Climate Summit at the United Nations in New York.

The Global Citizen initiative will culminate next year with “Global Go Live: The Possible Dream”, a 10-hour concert to be held in September 2020 on five continents.

The show – featuring Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Eddie Vedder, among others – will be broadcast live from New York City, Lagos, Nigeria, and other cities in Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Aerosmith cancel Las Vegas residency concert after Steven Tyler loses voice

Aerosmith were forced to cancel their September 26 concert in Las Vegas after Steven Tyler lost his voice.

"I lost my voice… but I can't talk about it,” posted Tyler on social media. “Refunds for Thursday 26th of September's canceled performance will be issued at point of purchase. @aerosmith #deucesarewild"

The Boston band’s next scheduled performance as part of their Deuces Are Wild residency at the Park Theater at Park MGM is set for Saturday, September 28.

Aerosmith – who launched the series in April – recently extended the residency with the addition of new dates in 2020 “due to extraordinary demand.”

Following a fall run of shows that will wrap up in early December, the group will return in the new year for more appearances; a three-week series will begin in late January and be followed by a two-week stand in May.

Aerosmith teamed up with producer Giles Martin – known for creating the soundscape for "The Beatles Love" by Cirque du Soleil show – for the residency, which is billed as “one of the most immersive, state-of-the art audio and video technology experiences in Las Vegas.”

Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne among artists to perform at Global Goal Live concert

Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Eddie Vedder are among the artists announced to perform at the Global Goal Live concert in September of 2020.

Organized by international advocacy group Global Citizen, the event is part of “Global Goal Live: The Possible Dream,” a year-long campaign to get the world back on track to achieve the Global Goals for Sustainable Development, a roadmap to end extreme poverty, tackle climate change, and reduce inequality by 2030, agreed to by all 193 member states of the United Nations in 2015.

The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has assessed that the world's poorest 59 countries need at least an additional $350 billion a year to achieve the Global Goals.

Working alongside, and in support of the United Nations, this campaign will call on governments, philanthropists, and the private sector to step forward, take responsibility for the goals, and provide the $350 billion needed annually for people and the planet to achieve the Global Goals in the poorest countries. These new funding commitments will fall into the areas of human capital, gender equality, and sustainability.

Scheduled for September 26, 2020, the historic 10-hour global Global Goal Live broadcast will span five continents, with simultaneous anchor events currently planned for Central Park in New York, and Lagos, Nigeria, and to-be-announced cities in Latin America, Europe, and Asia.

Hosts already confirmed include Deborra-lee Furness & Hugh Jackman, Idris Elba, Jill Vedder, Rachel Brosnahan, Trevor Noah and Uzo Aduba, with more to be added in the coming months; other artists set to participate in the concert are Alicia Keys, Coldplay, Miley Cyrus, Muse, Pharrell Williams, Shawn Mendes, Usher and more.

For information on the initiative and concert event, visit GlobalCitizen.org.

The Beatles release new video for Here Comes The Sun

The Beatles are streaming a video for the new 2019 mix of the track, “Here Comes The Sun”, as the latest preview to the 50th anniversary reissue of their 1969 album classic “Abbey Road.”

Issued five decades to the day of the set’s release and directed by Trunk Animation’s Alasdair Brotherston and Jock Mooney, Rolling Stone notes that the clip features vintage photos of the group floating throughout Abbey Road Studios’ Studio Two, where they cut the iconic album; photographed by Linda McCartney, the images fly past instruments, rising up above Ringo Starr’s drum kit to form a gigantic, golden sun.

The clip shifts to animation of the Fab Four’s feet crossing the famous road, with a white bird watching over them; it concludes with footage of the band’s final photo session on May 4, 1969, nearly a year before they announced their breakup in 1970. The group stands in England’s Tittenhurst Park surrounded by wildflowers, on the same grounds as John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s home Berkshire.

Due September 27, the “Abbey Road” reissues will deliver a 2019 mix of the full original record alongside 23 session recordings and demos, most of which have not been previously available.

The Beatles’ eleventh album topped the charts in several countries on its way to eventual worldwide sales of more than 31 million copies; the project was inducted into the US Recording Academy’s Grammy Hall Of Fame in 1995.

A series of 50th anniversary packages will include a Super Deluxe Edition, limited edition four-disc CD/Blu-ray and 3LP box sets, Deluxe 2CD, single CD and vinyl as well as digital and streaming versions.

Cream drummer Ginger Baker is critically ill in hospital

The family of Cream drummer Ginger Baker has revealed the 80-year-old rock legend has been hospitalized and is in poor condition.

"The Baker family are sad to announce that Ginger is critically ill in hospital,” they posted on social media. “Please keep him in your prayers tonight."

No further details regarding his illness have been disclosed.

Rolling Stone notes that Baker has suffered a number of ailments in recent years; in 2016, the drummer underwent open heart surgery after being forced to cancel a tour with his band Air Force earlier in the year when he was diagnosed with “serious heart problems.”

In 2013, the rocker revealed that his health was “not good” and that performing left him exhausted.

“I’ve got degenerative osteoarthritis, which is extremely painful and I’m on a regiment with a health service pain management control,” Baker told Rolling Stone at the time. “Apart from that I’ve got COPD from smoking.”

Baker cofounded Cream in 1966 with Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce and released four albums before they disbanded in 1968; he went on to form the short-lived Blind Faith with Clapton, Steve Winwood and Ric Grech before launching his band Air Force in 1970.

The drummer has also released numerous solo albums, and was the subject of the 2012 documentary “Beware Of Mr. Baker.”

Cream bassist Jack Bruce died of liver disease in 2014 at the age of 71.

Jeff Lynne’s ELO stream title track to new album From Out Of Nowhere

Jeff Lynne’s ELO are streaming the title track to their forthcoming new album, “From Out Of Nowhere”, ahead of its release on November 1.

The follow-up to 2015’s “Alone In The Universe” sees Lynne performing all of the instruments and vocals on the record, save for some percussion by engineer Steve Jay.

“‘From Out of Nowhere” — that’s exactly where it came from,” says Lynne says. “That’s the first one I wrote for this album and it’s kind of like that.”

The album builds on the energy and acclaim generated by the release of “Alone In The Universe” and the triumphant return to touring for the first time since 1985, starting with a 2014 performance before more than 50,000 people in London’s Hyde Park; since then, Lynne and company have toured in North America and Europe, including a June 2017 show for nearly 60,000 fans at London’s Wembley Stadium that was filmed and released as “Wembley Or Bust”, and a major US arena tour in 2018 and a return for twenty North American shows this past summer.

Lynne and ELO were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2017.

VIDEO: The Who cut Houston show short after Roger Daltrey loses voice

The Who shut down their September 25 concert in Houston, TX after Roger Daltrey lost his voice just eight songs into the show.

According to The Houston Press, things seemed to be going well at the city’s Toyota Center until the seventh tune of the evening, “Who Are You,” when Daltrey missed a few lines and guitarist Pete Townshend jumped in to assist on vocals. The singer was heard bemoaning a trip to Houston during ragweed season while Townshend urged the crowd to rally behind him, with the guitarist taking lead vocal on “Eminence Front” while Daltrey had time to assess his situation.

Once the song ended, Daltrey advised his bandmates and the audience he couldn’t continue performing. Townshend followed him offstage and a few minutes later returned to tell fans the show was over due to the rocker’s ragweed allergy and offer apologies.

"I'm really, really sorry,” the guitarist told the crowd, according to reports by several media outlets. “Roger cannot actually speak now. Apparently, before the show he saw a doctor, and, you know, he's been singing so great through this tour. I don't know what's going on. He has been on top of his game."

The Who are next scheduled to perform at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX on Friday, September 27; the band have not issued any statements regarding Daltrey’s status for the event at press time.

The Who will release its first new album in 13 years, entitled "Who", on November 22; the project is being previewed with the lead single, “Ball And Chain.”

"We're back and we're hot,” says drummer Roger Taylor.

“I can’t wait to get back to the UK and Europe,” adds Adam Lambert, “we had a blast on our last tour, and I am so excited to bring this new show over there!”

Tickets for the UK dates on the “Rhapsody” tour go on sale to the general public today, September 25; there are no pre-sales.

The all-star event has been staged each year since 2012 by the Global Poverty Project, which has set the goal of ending extreme poverty by 2030. Queen + Adam Lambert will star alongside artists such as Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys, One Republic and Carole King.

The all-new Rhapsody show, already hailed as “a marvel of technical advances,” will kick off the new year of 2020 with 17 giant arena and stadium shows across South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

Foreigner reunion featured on Double Vision Then And Now package

A reunion of the original Foreigner lineup is featured on the November 15 release of the forthcoming package, “Double Vision: Then And Now.”

The project takes viewers behind the scenes as original band members join Mick Jones and Foreigner’s current lineup for the very first time in the band’s 40-year history, with both incarnations of the group sharing the same stage for an epic performance that was filmed over two nights at Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort, Mount Pleasant, MI in the fall of 2017.

Original members Lou Gramm, Al Greenwood, Dennis Elliott, Ian McDonald and Rick Wills take the stage with Mick Jones and Foreigner - Kelly Hansen, Tom Gimbel, Jeff Pilson, Michael Bluestein, Bruce Watson and Chris Frazier - to deliver some of the band’s best-selling songs.

“This was a show that I will always remember!,” says Jones. “Sharing the stage with the guys that shaped Foreigner in the beginning and the stellar musicians that carry the flag in the new millennium, was a truly emotional moment.”

Filmed in 4K Ultra HD using over 24 camera positions, the concert film features a stunning multimedia set design, with custom CGI animation, lasers, fog, and elaborate FX that elevate this powerful performance to new levels.

Special Performance Features:

- “Juke Box Hero” – Features an array of special effects, lasers, smoke and an insane animated jukebox on steroids.
- “Starrider” – A 3D animated spacecraft and digital effects breathe new life into the digital age.
- “Feels Like The First Time” - The song that launched the legacy is performed by original members for the first time in over 30 years.
- “I Want To Know What Love Is” - A breathtaking full Gospel rendition that brings the Albert Strickland & Cho'Zen Choir together with both incarnations of the band onstage for the very first time.
- “Hot Blooded” - A Flamin' HOT and electrifying encore finale featuring both incarnations of the band together onstage has the entire crowd on their feet and rockin’.

"Foreigner - Double Vision: Then And Now" will be available on CD+DVD, Blu-Ray+CD, Limited 2LP+Blu-Ray, and Digital.
