Metallica jam with Stranger Things actor at Lollapalooza

Metallica met and jammed with actor Joseph Quinn from the Netflix series, “Stranger Things”, prior to their headlining performance at Lollapalooza in Chicago, IL on July 28.

The actor’s character, Eddie Munson, shreds "Master Of Puppets" on his Warlock guitar in the show’s "Upside Down" alternate universe during an attempt to help his friends vanquish a demon named Vecna.

The new profile of the track due to its exposure in the program recently saw the 1986 classic enter the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for the first time in the song’s history.

Metallica can be seen raving about the series prior to Quinn in newly-released video of the backstage meeting and jam from the event.

Metallica will next perform stadium shows in Buffalo, NY on August 11 and in Pittsburgh, PA on August 14.

You can buy the song “Master Of Puppets” at Amazon here or get the full album here.

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi opens 2022 Commonwealth Games

Tony Iommi with singer Indigo Marshall

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi was among the artists that performed at the Opening Ceremony for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK on July 28.

Iommi and acclaimed saxophonist Soweto Kinch led a dream sequence entitled Hear My Voice, based on the title track from the 2020 film, “Trial of the Chicago Seven”, as reimagined by Birmingham-born RnB vocalists Indigo Marshall and Gambimi.

“It was great to finally meet the hugely talented Indigo Marshall after our performance at tonight’s opening of the Commonwealth Games,” shared the guitarist on social media alongside a photo of the pair. “Thanks to everyone involved.”

The opening ceremony at the city’s Alexander Stadium featured some of the city’s most celebrated artists and promoted its emerging talent on a global stage in front of a live audience of over 30,000 and a television audience of over a billion.

The largest multi-sport event held in the UK since London 2012 was headlined by hometown heroes Duran Duran.

For full event details, visit the 2022 Commonwealth Games website here.

Black Sabbath formed in Aston, Birmingham in 1968 from the ashes of a pair of local acts: Iommi and drummer Bill Ward from Mythology, and Ozzy Osbourne and bassist Geezer Butler from Rare Breed.

Originally featuring two additional musicians and billed as the Polka Tuck Blues Band, the 6-piece lineup eventually became a four-piece under the name Earth before ultimately becoming Black Sabbath in August of 1969…and releasing their groundbreaking self-titled debut album just six months later in February of 1970.

Iommi is currently featured on Osbourne’s new single, “Degradation Rules.”

Aerosmith launch 50th anniversary video series with 1977 Houston concert

Aerosmith have launched their new 50th anniversary archival video series with footage from a pair of 1977 concerts in Houston, TX

The first streaming event in the ”50 Years Live!: From the Aerosmith Vaults” limited-edition series captures the best songs from two nights at The Summit – from their Draw The Line Tour…unearthed from Aerosmith’s legendary archive for the very first time and remastered in HD from the original master tapes.

“Live From The Summit, Houston, TX, 1977” is taken directly from the original in-house 2” master analog video cartridge for the best possible quality and features footage filmed over the course of two summer nights in Houston on June 24 & 25, 1977. The original live feed edit, only intended for the in-house screens, was carefully cleaned, digitized, and remastered in HD, bringing the 45-year-old footage to life.

“Live From The Summit, Houston, TX, 1977” kicks into full gear as the band burst onto The Summit stage, delivering powerful and raw renditions of “Back In The Saddle,” “Mama Kin,” “Lord Of The Thighs,” “Lick And A Promise,” and “Sweet Emotion,” as well as “Draw The Line,” “Walk This Way,” “Toys In The Attic” and “Dream On.”

Starting July 29, the unreleased Houston concert video will be available to stream online for one week only.

The Boston rockers will present five concerts in their new “official bootleg” streaming concert series, which delivers unreleased multi-camera live shows from Aerosmith’s vast personal vaults.. with one show from each of the past five decades.

Aerosmith will premiere a 1989 concert from Landover, MD on August 5; a 1993 show from Pittsburgh, PA on August 12; a 2003 event from Detroit, MI on August 19; and will wrap up on August 26 with the streaming debut of a 2016 concert in Mexico City.

With worldwide sales of more than 150 million records, Aerosmith – who formed in Boston, MA in 1970 – were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2001.

David Lee Roth revisits Van Halen glory days in new video tribute

David Lee Roth revisits the glory days of Van Halen in a newly-released video for his song, “Nothing Could Have Stopped Us Anyway.”

The clip for the tune – which serves as a tribute to the legendary band’s original era – features a variety of still images and video snippets from throughout their career, including rarely-seen photos from the group’s days playing the Southern California club circuit.

Occasional Roth writing and recording partner (and Rob Zombie member) John 5 plays guitar on the song and helped put the video together.

“Honored to be a part of this amazing piece of history,” shares John 5. “When I wrote the song with Dave, I knew it was something very special. I created this video on the tour bus as a tribute with Mike Savage. Very proud to share it with everyone.”

Roth and the guitarist recorded “Nothing Could Have Stopped Us Anyway” during a series of sessions in 2007 for an album project that has yet to be fully released.

With more than 80 million albums sold worldwide, Van Halen were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2007; five years after the band performed their final concert at the Hollywood Bowl in October of 2015, guitarist Eddie Van Halen passed away in 2020 at the age of 65 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Sammy Hagar & The Circle stream title track to new album Crazy Times

Sammy Hagar & The Circle are streaming a vidieo for the title track to their forthcoming album, “Crazy Times.”

Due September 30, the band recorded the follow-up to 2019’s “Space Between” with producer Dave Cobb at the historic RCA Studio A in Nashville, TN.

“Before I stepped into the studio with Dave, he’d told me he wanted the best of my career on this record, and he wasn't going to let me get out of that studio until I gave it to him,” says Hagar. “So, I said, ‘If you expect that from me, at my age, as many records as I've made, you're going to have to push me,’ and he said no problem. Obviously, I dug down and just tried to write good strong songs, great lyrics, great melodies and not worry so much about the arrangements because he had that covered. And he pushed and squeezed every one of us.

"We went in the studio with seven songs and came out with 10. We ended up cowriting three songs with Dave Cobb and the band—including the new track, ‘Crazy Times.’”

In support of the album release, Sammy Hagar & The Circle hit the road in June with the 21-city “Crazy Times” US amphitheater tour, when that wraps up in Sacramento, CA on October 1, Hagar will celebrate his 75th birthday at his annual week of Birthday Bash concerts at his Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

“Crazy Times” will be available in multiple formats, including CD, digital and streaming, with vinyl due for release on October 28.

Bush preview The Art Of Survival album with More Than Machines single

Bush are streaming the track, “More Than Machines”, as the lead single from their newly-announced forthcoming album, “The Art Of Survival.”

Due October 7, the UK band recorded their ninth studio record earlier this year with producer Erik Ron (Panic! At The Disco, Godsmack) after the pair worked on “Flowers On A Grave” and the title track for the group’s previous album, 2020’s “The Kingdom.”

The central theme to the new project speaks to both the human spirit’s resiliency in the face of trials and tribulations as well as the band’s own enduring place.

“Instead of being mournful or self-piteous, this is about the success stories of humanity’s survival against the odds,” explains Gavin Rossdale. “People just find a way to push through. We’ve all obviously suffered in varying degrees. I think the nature of life is the art of survival. Everyone is being tested all of the time, but we find a way.

“In recent memory, we’ve made major strides and shown great resilience in the face of war, endless instances of racism, gender politics, a pandemic, and a melting pot of what we’ve experienced. For me, The Art of Survival encompasses all of this.”

Bush are getting set to join Alice In Chains and Breaking Benjamin as a guest on the pair's North American tour, which will open in Burgettstown, PA on August 10.

Metallica debut Master Of Puppets animated lyric video

Metallica have debuted an animated lyric video for the title track to their 1986 classic, “Master Of Puppets.”

Created by UK design agency ILOVEDUST – which previously worked with Ozzy Osbourne on the artwork for his upcoming studio album "Patient Number 9", and with Foo Fighters on promotional activity for their "Studio 666" movie – the clip was inspired by the song’s recent chart success due to its inclusion in the Netflix series "Stranger Things."

In the season four finale, the Eddie Munson character performs what he calls "the most metal concert ever" — including shredding "Master Of Puppets" on his Warlock guitar — in the show’s "Upside Down" alternate universe during an attempt to help his friends vanquish a demon named Vecna.

The new profile of the track due to its exposure in the program recently saw “Master Of Puppets” enter the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for the first time in the song’s history.

"The way [creators Matt and Ross] The Duffer Brothers have incorporated music into 'Stranger Things' has always been next level, so we were beyond psyched for them to not only include 'Master Of Puppets' in the show but to have such a pivotal scene built around it,” says Metallica. “We were all stoked to see the final result and when we did we were totally blown away... it's so extremely well done, so much so, that some folks were able to guess the song just by seeing a few seconds of Joseph Quinn's hands in the trailer!! How crazy cool is that?

"It's an incredible honor to be such a big part of Eddie's journey and to once again be keeping company with all of the other amazing artists featured in the show."

Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo’s 17-year-old son, Tye, contributed "additional guitar tracks" to the version of "Master Of Puppets" which appears in "Stranger Things."

The original studio version was featured on Metallica’s major label debut, which became thrash metal's first platinum album on its way to US sales of more than 6 million copies.

David Lee Roth streams new song inspired by Van Halen

David Lee Roth is streaming “Nothing Could Have Stopped Us Anyway”, a newly-released song inspired by the early days of Van Halen.

The tune follows “Pointing At The Moon” as the latest track issued from sessions with John Lowery, aka longtime Rob Zombie guitarist John 5.

“You can’t deny a good song and Dave writes good songs,” John 5 told AL.com in 2021 following the release of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow Bar And Grill” – which Roth shared as a tribute to bandmate Eddie Van Halen in the weeks following the death of the iconic guitarist in October 2020 at the age of 65 – and “Giddy-Up.” “He’s written some of the most amazing songs of our lifetime, and Dave worked really hard on these lyrics. I’m not sure when it’s going to come out or if it’ll come out, but I hope it does.

“There’s one I’ll tell you about called ‘Nothing Could Have Stopped Us’, and it’s unbelievable. Being a Van Halen fan and a Dave Lee Roth fan, it’s unbelievable because it’s about Dave singing about Van Halen and what it was like. Really something special, so I really hope that comes out.”

Roth first worked with John 5 on his 1998 release, “DLR Band”, before the rocker went on to join Marilyn Manson’s band; he co-wrote one of three original tracks on Roth’s 2003 covers project, “Diamond Dave”, before beginning his current tenure with Zombie in 2005.

“Entering Heaven Alive” is now available in a number of vinyl options, including five limited edition variants, a Bandcamp exclusive white cassette, and digital and CD editions.

Red Hot Chili Peppers announce new album Return Of The Dream Canteen

The Red Hot Chili Peppers will release a new album, “Return Of The Dream Canteen”, on October 14.

The band announced their second record of 2022 – following “Unlimited Love” – during a July 23 concert at Denver's Empower Field, which marked the opening night of the group’s North American tour.

Both records were produced by Rick Rubin.

“We went in search of ourselves as the band that we have somehow always been,” says the Peppers. “Just for the fun of it we jammed and learned some old songs. Before long we started the mysterious process of building new songs. A beautiful bit of chemistry meddling that had befriended us hundreds of times along the way. Once we found that slip stream of sound and vision, we just kept mining. With time turned into an elastic waist band of oversized underwear, we had no reason to stop writing and rocking. It felt like a dream.

“When all was said and done, our moody love for each other and the magic of music had gifted us with more songs than we knew what to do with. Well we figured it out. 2 double albums released back to back. The second of which is easily as meaningful as the first or should that be reversed. 'Return of the Dream Canteen' is everything we are and ever dreamed of being. It's packed. Made with the blood of our hearts.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers will continue the tour through California with a special hometown performance in Los Angeles' SoFi Stadium, then through Chicago, Toronto, and more before wrapping up the North American leg in Arlington, TX on Sunday, September 18 at Globe Life Field. A roll call of some of the most acclaimed, eclectic and vital artists across various genres - including HAIM, Beck, Thundercat, The Strokes, King Princess, St. Vincent and Post Malone - will be joining the band on select dates.

The band launched a global stadium tour last month with their European leg at Estadio Olímpico de la Cartuja in Seville, Spain on Saturday, June 4; the concert marked their first show back with guitarist John Frusciante in 15 years and the kickoff to the band's first ever stadium tour.

Metallica rocks For Whom The Bell Tolls at Mad Cool Festival

Metallica rocked their 1984 classic, “For Whom The Bell Tolls”, during a July 6 appearance at the Mad Cool Festival in Madrid, Spain.

The tune was featured on the band’s second album, “Ride The Lightning”, which they recorded in in Copenhagen, Denmark with Flemming Rasmussen, who would also join the group to produce 1986’s “Master Of Puppets.”

According to setlist.fm, the song is one of the top 5 most-played songs in concert by the group since its release almost 40 years ago.

Metallica – who are also sharing video of “Whiskey In The Jar” from the event – performed on the opening night of the five-day Spanish festival, which also featured appearances by Imagine Dragons, Muse, Kings Of Leon and Jack White, among others.

Mad Cool was one of the last shows on Metallica's summer tour of Europe, which wrapped up at NOS Alive in Lisbon, Portugal on July 8.

ZZ Top stream new live album Raw

ZZ Top are streaming their new live album, “Raw”, in sync with its release on July 22.

The project was recorded in connection with the group’s 2019 Netflix documentary, “That Little Ol’ Band From Texas”; the Grammy-nominated feature from Banger Films and director Sam Dunn includes an interlude that finds the group’s classic line up - Billy Gibbons, Frank Beard and the late Dusty Hill - gathering for a very intimate session at Gruene Hall for a performance that provided the basis for the new release.

“The Director suggested we find a way to illustrate the early style from the start of our five plus decades run,” explains Gibbons. “Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas, was selected as a fitting backdrop to replicate the look of the band’s very beginnings. When we arrived, we were surprised to see that all our gear had been transported there so, as cameras rolled, we picked up the instruments and commenced an unplanned jam session. Fortunately, our stage engineers were on hand with tape machines in place to capture the performances that went down. That became, in essence, the soundtrack to the film and now it’s also an audio document of ZZ Top’s early beginnings. Still going strong today.”

Billed as “That Little Ol’ Band From Texas Original Soundtrack”, the project captures the vibe of a much simpler time in their career: the trio’s early days in Texas.

“It was, in a very real way, a return to our roots,” share Gibbons and Beard in the new album’s liner notes. “Just us and the music, no audience of thousands, no concession stands, no parking lot social hour, no phalanx of tour buses. Just us and the music. We knew right then it was a very special circumstance, all of us in the same place at the same time and what a time it most certainly was!

“It was as bare bones as when we first started touring in a behemoth Chrysler station wagon, driving vast stretches between those early far-flung shows under blackened Texas skies and first hearing our records on the radio. We were bonded as brothers. The Dust’ may have left the building but he’s still very much with us.”

Currently playing dates on a companion summer tour of North America, ZZ Top recently announced the return of their Viva Las Vegas Residency at The Venetian Resort this December, with tickets for the series now on sale.

Queensryche premiere video for new song Forest

Queensryche are premiering a video for “Forest”, a track from their forthcoming album, “Digital Noise Alliance.”

“The ballad of the album, 'Forest' embodies the sorrow of losing a loved one, trying to cope with such a profound loss, while occasionally feeling that person's presence around you and asking for a sign,” explains the band. “It is a topic very relatable to people, as we will all at some point experience the great loss of a parent, child, sibling, spouse, or dear friend.”

“Forest” follows “In Extremis” as the second preview to the 2022 album; due October 7, the band recorded the follow-up to 2019’s “The Verdict” with producer Chris "Zeuss" Harris.

Pearl Jam cancel second show due to Eddie Vedder vocal issues

Pearl Jam have canceled a second show this week as Eddie Vedder continues treatment for vocal cord damage that took place while the group were performing at Lollapalooza Paris on July 17.

News of the cancellation of a July 22 appearance in Prague, Czech Republic follows word that the band were unable to go ahead with a July 20 date in Vienna, Austria due to Vedder’s injury, which the group said on Wednesday was “due to the extreme circumstances at the last outdoor site outside of Paris (heat, dust, and smoke from the fires)” as Europe experiences a summer heatwave.

“We were hopeful that Ed would make a recovery in time to perform tomorrow,” said the band in a July 21 statement. “He has seen a doctor in Prague and is continuing the treatments for his vocal cords, but unfortunately, there is still no voice available. The effects on his throat from the last outdoor show are still just too brutal.

“We again send our sincere apologies to all of those who have worked intensely to put on the show. Even bigger apologies to those that were expecting to attend. We’ve always had memorable shows here and are with you in our extreme disappointment.

“You can be guaranteed we are doing everything we can to help fix the situation. Again, so sorry,”
adds the group. “Tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase. Thank you immensely for your understanding.”

Pearl Jam have been playing summer shows across Europe in support of their 2020 album, “Gigaton”, they are next scheduled to wrap up the series with two shows in Amsterdam on July 24 and 25.
