VIDEO: Metallica bassist performs Metallica medley with Rodrigo y Gabriela

Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo joined Rodrigo y Gabriela for the encore of their August 17th show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO, and the duo are sharing pro-shot video of the performance.

The trio played a tribute to Metallica that featured a medley of "Orion", "For Whom The Bell Tolls", "The Frayed Ends Of Sanity" and "Battery."

The Mexican guitar duo of Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero perform a mix of several genres, mostly rooted in latin rhythms. The pair originally teamed up in a Mexico City heavy metal band called Tierra Acida ("Acid Land") in the early 1990s before moving on to develop their own music and style.

The duo have performed Metallica tunes through the years and have featured some of the performances on their live releases.

Trujillo and Metallica wrapped up their 2014 “By Request” tour recently at Heavy Montreal; the group’s only North American show of the year came on the heels of an extensive, 2-month tour across Europe.

Ramones film to be directed by Martin Scorsese

Martin Scorsese will direct a film about punk pioneers The Ramones.

Billboard reports the director is already on board for the project, one of several in the planning stages as the band approaches the 40th anniversary of the release of their legendary and influential self-titled debut album in 2016.

In addition to the film, a documentary, a theatrical play and a book are also planned to spotlight the group, who formed in Queens, New York in 1974.

“You’ll see a book coming, which is not a biographical book so much, but a story of the band’s formation and those first few records and that craziness that happened,” says Jeff Jampol, who co-manages the band’s estate with Dave Frey. “It’ll be a combination of prose, photographs and memorabilia and posters, just kind of documenting the scene. The Ramones were the first punk band and they started the punk movement.”

In leading up to the anniversary the Ramones will be reappearing in several other ways, including remastered music, fashion and music placement.

“You’re gonna see some really interesting combinations of music and new music and remastered music and apparel,” explains Jampol. “As far as the apparel goes, and really everything, as a company, for me, authenticity is the foundation of everything. And luckily, when you have a really genius artist like the Ramones you don’t have to spin it. It is what it is and what it is is a beautiful moment in time that sparked a revolution in music and in fashion.

So you look at 76 when the Ramones first album came out, and that really sparked that brand new wave of what I call the American rock and roll wardrobe, which is jeans, white t-shirt, leather jacket and sneakers.”

Tommy Ramone – the last of the original Ramones – died July 11th at his home in Ridgewood, Queens, New York following treatment for bile duct cancer; he was 65.

Joey died from lymphoma in 2001, Dee Dee died from a heroin overdose in 2002, and Johnny died in 2004 of prostate cancer.

The Ramones took the inspiration for their both their individual and band names from Paul McCartney, who used the alias Paul Ramon during his Silver Beatles days. Dee Dee adopted the name before convincing the other band members to do the same.

Bruce Springsteen to publish children’s book Outlaw Pete

Bruce Springsteen will publish a children’s book, “Outlaw Pete”, on November 4.

The rocker teamed up with Frank Caruso on the project, which is based on the celebrated song about a bank-robbing baby whose exploits become a meditation on sin, fate, and free will.

Both the song (from Springsteen’s 2009 album “Working On A Dream”) and the new book “Outlaw Pete” were inspired by a children’s book, “Brave Cowboy Bill” (Simon & Schuster, 1950), which Springsteen’s mother used to read to him as a child.

“Outlaw Pete is essentially the story of a man trying to outlive and outrun his sins,” writes Springsteen.

Frank Caruso, a cartoonist and writer, conceived of making the song into a book and created the illustrations to accompany Springsteen’s lyrics.

“When Bruce wrote ‘Outlaw Pete’ he didn’t just write a great song, he created a great character,” Caruso said. “The first time I heard the song this book played out in my head. Like Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, Dorothy Gale and for me, even Popeye, Outlaw Pete cuts deep into the folklore of our country and weaves its way into the fabric of great American literary characters."

Springsteen wrapped up his “High Hopes” world tour in the spring, and has no shows on his schedule at the moment.

Queen update unreleased Freddie Mercury album project

Queen drummer Roger Taylor is sharing an update on “Queen Forever”, a new album due later this year that will include unreleased songs featuring the late Freddie Mercury.

The project sees Taylor and guitarist Brian May recording new backing tracks to the Mercury material, just as they did for 1995’s “Made In Heaven” album, and is expected to include at least one duet between Freddie and Michael Jackson.

“I’m not quite sure what’s on it yet,” Taylor tells the London Evening Standard. “We’ve got some great new tracks that haven’t been heard and there’s an interesting selection of older stuff.”

Dealing with the legalities with Jackson’s estate surrounding the material featuring the pop icon has been a challenge for the band.

“[Yes] if we could get a decision from the Michael Jackson estate, who seem to be, well, difficult,” says Taylor. “[Producer] William Orbit did a really nice mix of one of our tracks with Michael and I’m pretty certain that will be on Queen Forever. But it’s been like wading through glue.”

The album is expected before Christmas.

Queen are currently playing shows across Australia with vocalist Adam Lambert as part of their 2014 world tour.

New AC/DC album update

AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd is sharing an update on the band’s new album, recorded this spring in Vancouver without founding member Malcolm Young.

“It was done in 10 days, and I’ve never played better,” Rudd told Triple M radio in Sydney, Australia, describing the new music as “stellar.”

“I hope it’s as good as I remember when I came away from the studio,” he added. “It’s pretty damn good.”

(Ed. note: the Vancouver sessions for the project were booked from May to July, with Brian Johnson confirming in early July that the recording was complete. Rudd’s 10-day comment may have more to do with the amount of time it took to record his drum tracks, as opposed to the full album. Thanks to project engineer Mike Fraser for his feedback on this story.)

Rudd is anxious to have fans hear the new album as soon as possible.

“Usually you master something and wait a couple of weeks, and you go and have a listen to it,” he says. “They do things a certain way - I think they’re taking too long.”

No title or release date for the album has been announced.

AC/DC recorded the project at Vancouver’s Warehouse Studio with producer Brendan O’Brien (Aerosmith, Pearl Jam). O'Brien previously teamed up with the Aussie rockers to produce their 2008 album, “Black Ice”, at the same location.

Founding member Malcolm Young, who remains in hospital to address some health issues, was unavailable for the sessions so the band brought in his nephew, Stevie, to handle rhythm guitar duties.

Singer Brian Johnson recently suggested that the group could be on the road by the end of 2014.

VIDEO: Lady Gaga performs with Queen in Sydney

Lady Gaga performed with Queen and Adam Lambert as a surprise guest at the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia on Wednesday, and fan-filmed video from the show has surfaced.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports Gaga appeared on stage wearing a black curly wig, a revealing bejewelled black jumpsuit and lethal-looking stilettos for the hit “Another One Bites The Dust.”

Gaga and Lambert delighted the crowd, hamming it up during their duo on the stage and its accompanying runway.

The pop icon didn't stay on stage longe enough to sing the 1984 hit, “Radio Gaga”, the song that inspired Stefani Germanotta's stage name. Gaga did watch from the crowd though - and when Lambert sang “Radio Gaga”, he had the auditorium lights switched on and sang a chorus to her.

Lady Gaga's own headlining concert is at the same venue this Sunday.

Stevie Ray Vaughan career-spanning 12-disc box set due this fall

Stevie Ray Vaughan’s career will be celebrated this fall with the release of “Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble: The Complete Epic Recordings Collection”, a 12-disc box set due October 28.

The set brings together, for the first time, the entirety of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble's official studio and live album catalogue, including the inaugural commercial release of “A Legend In The Making”, a highly collectible (formerly) promotional only recording of SRV & DT's incendiary performance at Toronto's El Mocambo club in 1983.

In addition, “The Complete Epic Recordings Collection” features two discs compiling rare and hard-to-find archival tracks.

Vaughan was already making a name for himself in Texas with live performances before releasing his debut album, “Texas Flood”, in 1983. The record introduced the guitar slinger to the world and opened the gates for a flow of gold, platinum and multiplatinum albums for Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, an unprecedented achievement for any blues act.

Stevie Ray Vaughan died in a helicopter crash on August 27, 1990, following an awe-inspiring performance with Double Trouble and Eric Clapton at the Alpine Valley Resort in Wisconsin.

Though his mainstream career lasted a mere seven years, Stevie Ray Vaughan's enduring contribution to the blues can be heard in the work of younger players including John Mayer, Derek Trucks and Mike McCready of Pearl Jam.

Stevie Ray Vaughan was the recipient of numerous musical awards, during his lifetime and posthumously. In 1983, readers of Guitar Player voted him as Best New Talent and Best Electric Blues Guitar Player. In 1984, the Blues Foundation named him Entertainer of the Year and Blues Instrumentalist of the Year, and in 1987 Performance Magazine honored him with Rhythm and Blues Act of the Year. Earning six Grammy Awards and ten Austin Music Awards, he was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2014. Rolling Stone ranked Vaughan as the twelfth greatest guitarist of all time.

ZZ Top and Jeff Beck suspend tour following injury

ZZ Top and Jeff Beck have suspended their remaining tour dates, effective immediately, following an injury to bassist Dusty Hill.

Hill slipped and fell on his hip while aboard his tour bus Tuesday night; as a result of his injury, which requires immediate attention, ZZ Top performance dates have been temporarily suspended while he recovers.

The first show affected by the news is Wednesday (tonight) at DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan, just outside of Detroit.

Jeff Beck and his band will perform the next three scheduled dates without ZZ Top:

Aug 29 ... Seneca Allegany Casino - Salamanca, NY
Aug 30 ... The Concert Venue @ Harrah’s - Atlantic City, NJ
Aug 31 ... MGM Grand Theater @ Foxwoods - Mashantucket, CT

Ticket holders for the following dates should retain their tickets pending the possibility of rescheduling these concerts:

Sep 06 ... Verizon Wireless Amphitheater - Alpharetta, GA
Sep 07 ... St. Augustine Amphitheater - St. Augustine, FL
Sep 09 ... Cruzan Amphitheater - West Palm Beach, FL
Sep 10 ... Midflorida Credit Union Amphitheater - Tampa, FL
Sep 12 ... Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - The Woodlands, TX
Sep 13 ... Winstar Casino - Thackerville, OK

“While we are very disappointed to not continue this tour with ZZ Top,” said Jeff Beck, “our thoughts and best wishes are for Dusty to have a speedy recovery.”

It’s the second health issue Hill has faced recently; last month, ZZ Top were forced to postpone the start of their summer US tour following news that the bassist had to undergo immediate surgery to remove two kidney stones.

ZZ Top recently released two projects: a greatest hits package entitled “The Very Baddest Of ZZ Top”, as well as a concert DVD, “Live At Montreux 2013.”

Oasis premiere unreleased acoustic demo of She’s Electric

Oasis have released the demo version of “She’s Electric”, sung by Noel Gallagher, as a preview to the upcoming reissue of their 1995 album, “(What’s The Story) Morning Glory.”

Due September 29 (September 30 in North America), the remastered set will be available as a standard CD and digital download, LP, an expanded 3-disc version and digital download, and a Super Deluxe box set.

The follow-up to band’s smash debut album, 1994’s “Definitely Maybe”, remains Oasis’ biggest-selling album with 22 million copies sold worldwide. The project spent 10 weeks at No.1 in the group’s native UK, is the 5th biggest-selling album in UK chart history and became the band’s breakthrough album in the US where it sold 4 million copies.

The new edition has been remastered from the original tapes by Ian Cooper at London’s Metropolis Studios, supervised by the album’s producer Owen Morris.

The expanded 3-disc version features the original album plus rare b-sides, early demos and live recordings from the Oasis archives.

The limited edition Super Deluxe box set is packaged in a deluxe box with magnetic closure lid, and includes both the three CD set and vinyl edition of the album as well as a 56-page coffee table book which includes extensive sleeve notes from respected music critic Neil McCormick. The box features additional vinyl singles, a replica promo cassette plus exclusive merchandise.

The “(What’s The Story) Morning Glory” reissue is the second in the band’s Chasing The Sun series; earlier this year, the program launched with “Definitely Maybe”, while a remastered 1997’s “Be Here Now” is expected later this year.

John Mellencamp art exhibition comes to Florida

“The Paintings Of John Mellencamp”, a traveling art exhibition featuring the works of the Indian rocker, will makes its first showing in Florida this fall.

Opening at The Museum Of Art in Deland on October 10, the exhibition will feature some 40 oil and mixed media paintings, which will remain on view at the Museum until December 28.

The multi-talented singer-songwriter, actor and humanitarian was inspired to paint by his artist mother at a young age growing up in Seymour, Indiana. In the early ’80s, he attended the Art Students League of New York and was influenced by, among others, German-Expressionists Otto Dix and Max Beckmann.

In recent years, his paintings have taken on themes such as racism, war, faith and justice.

Neil Young files for divorce after 36 years of marriage

Neil Young has filed for divorce from Pegi Young, his wife of 36 years and frequent musical collaborator.

Rolling Stone reports Young filed a petition for dissolution of marriage in the couple’s hometown of San Mateo, California, on July 29th; a hearing is scheduled for December 12th.

Neil first met Pegi when she was working as a waitress at a diner near his California ranch, a story he documented in the 1992 song, "Unknown Legend."

Young has three children: sons Zeke (born during his relationship with actress Carrie Snodgress) and Ben, who were diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and daughter Amber Jean who, like Neil, has epilepsy.

Inspired by the lack of educational opportunities for their son Ben, who suffers from cerebral palsy, they co-founded the Bridge School in 1986, which educates children with severe physical impairments. They raise funds for it with an annual all-star concert in Mountain View, California – the 2014 28th Annual Bridge School Benefit Concert will take place on Saturday and Sunday, October 25th and 26th.

Neil recently wrapped up a European tour with Crazy Horse, while Pegi just completed a brief U.S. club tour.

They were both slated to play Farm Aid 2014 in Raleigh, North Carolina, on September 13th, though Pegi's name was recently removed from the lineup.

Young recently released his latest album, “A Letter Home.”

AC/DC marks 35th anniversary of Highway To Hell on In The Studio

AC/DC’s 1979 album classic, “Highway To Hell”, is marking its 35th anniversary on North American rock radio series In The Studio.

Host Redbeard presents archival interviews with brothers Angus and Malcolm Young, who discuss the project that catapulted the Australian rockers into the mainstream with singles like “Girls Got Rhythm”, “Touch Too Much” and the title track.

Produced by Mutt Lange, “Highway To Hell” was the first AC/DC album not produced by Harry Vanda and George Young. Pre-production of the album began in January 1979 with demos cut at Albert Studios in Sydney, Australia, where they met the intended producer, Eddie Kramer. Kramer was fired before a single track had been completed, and Robert John "Mutt" Lange was brought in to replace him.

“Highway To Hell” peaked at No. 17 on the US Billboard 200 on its way to selling more than 7 million copies in the States alone.

The band launched a worldwide tour in support of the record on July 13, 1979 with a show in Arnhem, Holland; the trek wrapped up in Southampton, UK on January 27, 1980.

Sadly, lead singer Bon Scott would die less than 4 weeks later while enjoying a post-tour break in England.

On February 19, 1980, Scott died after a night of heavy drinking in London at the age of 33.

Six months later, AC/DC would release “Back In Black” as a tribute to Scott as the band introduced new frontman Brian Johnson. Fueled by the groundswell of support from “Highway”, the follow-up would go on to become one of the biggest-selling albums of all time.

Hear the 35th Anniversary of “Highway To Hell” on In The Studio here.

AC/DC recently completed recording a new album without founding member Malcolm Young, who remains in hospital to address some health issues.

Aerosmith accepted Motley Crue’s ALS Ice Bucket Challenge onstage at the Cynthia Williams Pavilion in Houston, Texas on Monday and the band is sharing video from the event.

Guitarist Joe Perry said a portion of each ticket sold at the show would be donated to the ALS Assocation.
