Steve Perry to join Journey for Rock Hall induction

Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain has confirmed that former bandmate Steve Perry will attend the band’s induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame on April 7 in New York.

“The ceremony is the first time we’re going to get to see Steve Perry in a long time, so that’ll be fun,” Cain tells the Dayton Daily News. “As far as we know he’s just going to accept the award and then skedaddle. That’s all I know, unless something changes. Arnel is going to represent very well, like he always does.”

While there remains no confirmation that Perry will reunite to perform at the Rock Hall event with his former bandmates for the first time in more than 25 years, Cain is referring to current singer Arnel Pineda, who joined the lineup in 2007 after being discovered by founder and guitarist Neal Schon singing Journey covers on YouTube with Filipino band The Zoo.

“It’s amazing because Arnel has been consistently on the road for 10 years now,” added the keyboardist. “I don’t think any singer in the band has stayed on the road as long as Arnel has.”

The San Francisco band have released a pair of albums with Pineda, including 2008’s “Revelation” and 2011’s “Eclipse.”

Journey had their most successful commercial period with Perry, who joined the group in 1977; a string of multi-platinum albums followed before his departure in 1998. The last time the singer performed with his former band was at a tribute show for legendary concert promoter Bill Graham following his passing in 1991.

The classic Perry lineup of JourneyCain, Neal Schon, Steve Smith, Aynsley Dunbar and Ross Valory – will enter the 2017 Rock Hall alongside founding keyboardist/singer Gregg Rolie.

Journey are being inducted by Train fornman Pat Monahan alongside Pearl Jam, Yes, Electric Light Orchestra, Joan Baez and Tupac Shakur.

VIDEO: Eric Clapton spotted in wheelchair at Los Angeles airport

Video has surfaced of Eric Clapton leaving Los Angeles on Wednesday in a wheelchair after postponing a pair of concerts in the city last weekend over health issues.

TMZ reports the guitar icon was seen holding hands with one of his daughters as he was wheeled through the terminal at LAX.

Clapton – who turned 72 on March 30 – recently launched his limited run of 2017 shows with two dates at New York’s Madison Square Garden before heading to Los Angeles.

“Due to severe bronchitis and under doctor’s advisement, Eric Clapton is rescheduling two shows at The Forum in Los Angeles,” read the official statement by the guitarist’s representatives. “The Saturday March 25th show will now be held Wednesday, September 13th. The Sunday March 26th show will now be held Monday September 18th.

“He is very sorry to disappoint his fans but looks forward to these shows. Ticketholders can retain their tickets for the new dates or refunds will be issued at point of purchase. In addition, Eric will play the already scheduled two shows at The Forum September 15th and 16th.”

Last year, Clapton revealed the extent of various health issues had made playing guitar, among other things, a challenge for him.

“I’ve had quite a lot of pain over the last year,” said Clapton. “It started with lower back pain and turned into what they call peripheral neuropathy, which is where you feel like you have electric shocks going down your leg.

"[It's] hard work to play the guitar and I've had to come to terms with the fact that it will not improve. And I’ve had to figure out how to deal with some other things from getting old.”

The guitarist is next scheduled to perform three nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall in May.

Pearl Jam celebrate Rock Hall induction with video retrospective

Pearl Jam are celebrating their upcoming induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame with a new video retrospective set to the soundtrack of their 1991 debut single “Alive.”

“I'll ride the wave where it takes me,” says band videographer Kevin Shuss. “To celebrate Pearl Jam's induction into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame, I made this video to look back at the band's first 25 years. Thanks guys! Can't wait to see what the future holds.”

“Alive” introduced the Seattle band just three weeks before the release of their debut album, “Ten.”

Alongside follow-up singles “Even Flow”, “Jeremy” and “Oceans”, the project eventually peaked at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200 on its way to sales of more than 13 million copies in the States alone.

On April 7 at New York’s Barclays Center, longtime associate Neil Young will induct Pearl Jam as part of the Class of 2017 alongside fellow honorees Journey, the Electric Light Orchestra, Yes, Joan Baez and Tupac Shakur.

Set to be honored are the current Pearl Jam lineup of Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament and Matt Cameron, and founding member Dave Krusen, while the Rock Hall failed to acknowledge the work of drummers Dave Abbruzzese, Matt Chamberlain and Jack Irons.

The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac to headline Classic East and West festivals

The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac will headline a pair of US festivals this summer.

Organized by manager Irving Azoff and reportedly inspired by the success of the Desert Trip events last year, the bands will perform at The Classic West festival at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles and The Classic East at Citi Field in New York.

The Eagles will headline the July 15 show at Dodger Stadium alongside Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers, and Fleetwood Mac will top the July 16 event with Journey and Earth, Wind & Fire.

The same lineups will play in the same order in New York on July 29 and 30.

An American Express presale runs April 3 at 10a through April 6 at 10p, with general public tickets going on sale in each city on April 7 at 10a local time.

Full details are available at theclassic.com

The festival news is of special interest to Eagles fans: following the 2016 death of guitarist Glenn Frey, the group performed a tribute to their fallen bandmate at the Grammy Awards with drummer Don Henley telling the BBC last March that it was their farewell performance.

There’s no official word yet as to a replacement for Frey, but longtime associate Jackson Browne joined the Eagles lineup for the Grammys tribute.

In between the festivals, Henley will perform a 70th birthday concert in Dallas, TX on July 22.

On March 31, Fleetwood Mac will release an expanded reissue of their 1987 album, “Tango In The Night.”

Allman Brothers guitarist’s wife arrested for threatening to shoot teens

The wife of former Allman Brothers Band guitarist Dickey Betts has been arrested in Florida after allegedly threatening to shoot more than a dozen high school students rowing near her backyard in Osprey.

According to ABC News7 in Sarasota, local police reportedly secured video of the incident, which shows Donna Betts standing on her dock late Monday afternoon, aiming a 30-30 Winchester rifle at the rowing crew and threatening to shoot them as they practiced nearby.

At the end of the video, Betts can be seen throwing the rifle into the water; it was later recovered by police.

Following the incident, Betts called 911 claiming "the crew from Sarasota High School have destroyed her life and she has had it, identifying herself as Donna."

The rocker’s wife has been charged with 18 counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and for "causing a well-founded fear coupled with the ability to produce great bodily harm and/or death."

Betts was given supervised released on a $180,000 bond on Wednesday. She must wear an ankle bracelet and stay away from drugs during her bond arrangement; she is also prohibited from contacting any member of the rowing team.

A founding member of the Allman Brothers Band, Dickey Betts served several stints with the group before his departure in 2000.

After 45 years together, the band performed its final show on October 28, 2014 at the Beacon Theater in New York City.

Aerosmith postpone US tour plans to record new album

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has revealed that the Boston band has postponed plans for a US tour later year in order to return to the studio to work on a new album.

“We want to get in and give ourselves some time to get something done,” Perry tells AZCentral. “We definitely have another record in us, if not two. But we’ll see how that goes.”

Beyond a potential follow-up to 2012’s “Music From Another Dimension”, the group will launch a summer European run of the “Aero-Vederci Baby!” trek in May as part of what’s been initially promoted as a farewell tour, but the guitarist says that may not be the case.

“Not officially, no,” says Perry. “But we postponed the American tour we were supposed to do this fall. And we’re gonna go out and tour until, you know, we’re done. And we’re gonna try and hit every place we’ve ever played and never played. There’s always new places to go. New countries. I’d like to play China and the Far East. There’s a lot of places that are off the beaten path. Is this the last tour? Well, I don’t know. I don’t think so.”

“It sounded like a good idea when we were just sitting around,” he adds, “but when we started doing interviews, actually having to verbalize it, if you’re saying farewell tour, that means you have to have a last gig – at least theoretically. And we couldn’t wrap our minds around actually saying this is gonna be our last gig. We’ve been doing it for too long and none of us could picture that.”

Aerosmith are scheduled to play one US date this year: they’ll perform at the 2017 NCAA March Madness Music Festival in conjunction with the 2017 NCAA Men’s Final Four in Phoeniz, AZ on April 2.

George Harrison’s son to induct ELO into Rock Hall

ELO: (L-R) Jeff Lynne, Bev Bevan and Roy Wood

The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame has announced that George Harrison’s son, Dhani, will induct the Electric Light Orchestra as part of the Class Of 2017 at New York’s Barclays Center on April 7.

The Beatles guitarist worked closely with ELO cofounder Jeff Lynne through the years, including co-producing Harrison’s 1987 album, “Cloud Nine”, and as bandmates in The Traveling Wilburys. The pair regrouped to work on another solo album, “Brainwashed”, during which Harrison passed away from lung cancer and the project was completed by Dhani and Lynne before its release in 2002.

Lynne and fellow Traveling Wilbury Tom Petty inducted George posthumously as a solo artist into the Rock Hall in 2004, with Dani joining them for a live performance that evening.

ELO co-founders Lynne, Roy Wood and Bev Bevan – alongside Richard Tandy – will be honored during the 2017 event next month alongside Pearl Jam, Journey, Yes, Joan Baez and Tupac Shakur.

Bevan has confirmed that he will miss the band’s induction due to prior commitments.

Formed in Birmingham, UK in 1970, ELO had a string of hits through the 1970s including “Evil Woman”, “Livin’ Thing”, “Strange Magic” and “Telephone Line” before shutting things down in 1986.

Bevan carried on as “ELO Part II” before selling his half of the rights to the ELO brand to Lynne in early 2000.

Pink Floyd: Dark Side Of The Moon recording console sells at auction

The studio console used by Pink Floyd to famously record their 1973 album, “The Dark Side Of The Moon”, sold at auction in New York on Monday for more than double its presale estimate.

The rare EMI TG12345 MK IV recording console – one of only two ever made – sold for 1,807,500 during the Bonhams' TCM Presents … Rock and Roll Through The Lens auction to an anonymous bidder.

The equipment was housed in Abbey Road's famed Studio 2 from 1971 to 1983, with Pink Floyd and many other artists using the gear for various recording ventures.

Seller and producer Mike Hedges initially purchased the console from Abbey Road in 1983 when the studio upgraded its equipment; he said it was still in "excellent working condition" upon its sale.

"The world record price of this important item of music engineering only confirms the military precision of EMI craftsmanship and the powerhouse persona of Abbey Road Studio,” says Katherine Schofield, Head of Entertainment Memorabilia in London. “The intense bidding seen in the room and on the phone speaks to its association with one of the UK's most relevant and successful bands, Pink Floyd, and highlights the fact that this is far from being any ordinary console."

Produced by Pink Floyd with engineering by Alan Parsons and mixing by Chris Thomas, “The Dark Side Of The Moon” was recorded at Abbey Road between June 1972 and January 1973.

The project went on to become one of the biggest-selling albums in music history at more than 50 million copies worldwide while continuing to be in demand as each year passes.

VIDEO: Royal Blood tease new music

UK rockers Royal Blood are teasing music from their forthcoming second album in a newly-released video from the recording studio.

“This is us then, where are you now?”, asks the duo of bassist/singer Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher across their social media sites alongside the footage.

No timetable has been revealed yet regarding the follow-up to their 2014 self-titled debut album, which entered the UK charts at No. 1 on its way to becoming the fastest-selling British rock debut in their native country in three years.

The band picked up the Best British Group Award at the BRIT Awards in London in February of 2015; the honor was presented to them by fan and Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page.

Royal Blood will begin their 2017 live schedule with appearances at a pair of US festivals – including The Governors Ball in New York over the first weekend in June and Bonnaroo on June 11 – followed by The UK’s Eden Project on June 22 and full summer of European festival dates.

ELO drummer to miss Rock Hall induction

ELO: (L-R) Jeff Lynne, Bev Bevan and Roy Wood

Electric Light Orchestra cofounder and drummer Bev Bevan will miss the band’s induction into the 2017 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame next month due to prior commitments.

The group will be honored at New York’s Barclays Center on April 7 alongside Pearl Jam, Journey, Yes, Joan Baez and Tupac Shakur.

“Unfortunately I will not be able to attend ELO’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame due to the fact that I am on tour in the UK with another great friend of Jeff (Lynne), Richard (Tandy) and Roy (Wood)..the legend that is ‘Jasper Carrott’,” writes Bevan on Facebook. “These dates have been sold out for some time and when the news broke about our induction it was too late to change them.

“It would have been fantastic to meet up with Roy, Jeff and Richard again,” he continues, calling the recognition a great honor. “I have been incredibly fortunate to have had a life in the music business from my first band ‘Rocking Ronnie & The Renegades’ to ‘Black Sabbath and all the bits inbetween including The Move, Denny Laine & The Diplomats, Carl Wayne & The Vikings, Quill, The Electric Light Orchestra, the Brum Rocks concerts, Stand Up & Rock and more… surrounded by great talented musicians. It has been a blast and I still get a buzz every time I walk out on stage.

“However, I would like to add that without the support of the record buying and concert going public my great career could never have happened. So a huge thank you goes out to everyone who has ever purchased a record that I played on or been to any of the concerts. Hope to see you soon at a gig somewhere.”

Bevan formed ELO with Lynne and Wood in Birmingham, UK in 1970. The band’s unique mix of rock and classic elements saw the group score a series of hits throughout the 1970s with songs like “Evil Woman”, “Livin’ Thing”, “Strange Magic”, “Telephone Line”, “Shine A Little Love” and “Don’t Bring Me Down”, among others.

ELO members went their separate ways in 1986, with Bevan carrying on as “ELO Part II” before selling his half of the rights to the ELO brand to Lynne in early 2000.

Allman Brothers release 8-disc Fox Box set

The Allman Brothers have just issued the digital version of “The Fox Box”, an 8-disc set spanning a run of three shows at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre in 2004.

With a physical release due April 28, the package presents the group’s September 24, 25 & 26 sold-out concerts while on the road in support of 2003’s “Hittin’ The Note.”

Originally offered via the then-new "Instant Live" program – where fans could order a recording of the performance and leave the venue with the audio cd afterwards – “The Fox Box” provides a remastered audio mix of the Atlanta concerts.

The project delivers 53 songs over three shows with only one repeat, “Dreams”, which appears each night featuring a different guitar soloist – Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes and Jack Pearson.

The 2004 lineup of the Allman Brothers Band included founding members Gregg Allman and drummers Butch Trucks and Jaimoe, along with percussionist Marc Quinones, guitarists Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks and bassist Oteil Burbridge.

Guitarist Jack Pearson, who was in the band from 1997 to 1999, was a special guest. Other guests included Derek's Tedeschi Trucks Band bandmate and wife Susan Tedeschi, Butch's son Vaylor Trucks and keyboardist Rob Baracco.

A full track listing for "The Fox Box" can be found below.

After 45 years together, the Allman Brothers Band performed its final show on October 28, 2014 at the Beacon Theater in New York City.

On January 24, Butch Trucks died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home in West Palm Beach, FL at the age of 69.

Gregg Allman recently cancelled his live schedule for 2017 without explanation.

Rolling Stones to release Latin American tour documentary

The Rolling Stones will release their 2016 tour documentary, “¡Olé, Olé, Olé! A Trip Across Latin America”, on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download on May 26.

The project captures the group’s road trip across 10 Latin American cities, combining live performances with behind the scenes footage as it culminates in the historic tour finale with a historic free gig in Havana, Cuba before 1.2 million fans.

The trek marked the Stones’ first in the region since 2006’s A Bigger Bang Tour.

Directed by Paul Dugdale, “¡Olé, Olé, Olé!” was first introduced with theatrical screenings in Europe and North America late last year.

The 2017 release will also include seven exclusive bonus live tracks from the tour’s stops in Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo and Lima.

Mick Jagger recently confirmed that The Rolling Stones are working on new music.

The rocker says the follow-up to 2016’s covers album, “Blue & Lonesome”, will feature original material.

Former Boston drummer Sib Hashian dead at 67

Former Boston drummer John Thomas "Sib" Hashian died March 22 at the age 67 after collapsing on stage during a performance on the Legends Of Rock Cruise in the Caribbean.

TMZ reports Hashian’s son, Adam, confirmed the drummer suddenly collapsed midset while playing with former Boston lead guitarist Barry Goudreau, while a witness tells the media outlet that attempts to revive him with CPR and a defibrillator failed.

The Legends Of Rock Cuise – featuring original Foreigner vocalist Lou Gramm, John Cafferty, The Grass Roots and former members of the Beach Boys and Kansas, among others – departed from Miami, FL on March 18 with planned stops including Puerto Rico and the Bahamas.

TMZ has been told the cruise will continue and other musicians will be performing tributes to the drummer.

Hashian joined Boston following the departure of original drummer Jim Masdea at the request of Epic Records. The rocker first performed with founder Tom Scholz, singer Brad Delp, bassist Fran Sheehan and Goudreau as part of a live performance audition for the label before a record deal was signed in 1975.

Hashian appeared on Boston’s 1976 self-titled debut and its follow-up, 1978’s “Don’t Look Back”; combined, the two projects have sold more than 24 million copies in the US alone.

The drummer left Boston during the recording of the band’s third release, 1986’s “Third Stage”, only to be replaced by a returning Masdea.

Hashian later sued Scholz for back royalties and the pair settled the matter out of court.

The drummer owned a record shop and a chain of tanning salons in Boston; he occasionally performed with Goudreau, Sheehan and Delp over the years, and dabbled as an actor in local theater.

Hashian has a son and two daughters – one of which, Lauren, gave birth to a daughter with boyfriend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in 2015.

Boston recently announced the addition of 21 concert dates to their upcoming summer tour of North America.
