AUDIO: Randy Bachman joined by Peter Frampton on new album

Randy Bachman is sharing audio of the title track to his upcoming album, “Heavy Blues”, which sees him team up with Peter Frampton.

Due April 13 (April 14 in North America), Bachman is joined by guests including Neil Young, Joe Bonamassa, Robert Randolph and the late Jeff Healey for the project, alongside new band members Anna Ruddick on bass and Dale Anne Brendon on drums.

“Heavy Blues” is produced by Kevin Shirley (Iron Maiden, Rush, Led Zeppelin), who Bachman says influenced the heaviness of his latest solo album.

“I’ve known Kevin for many years and watched his producer credits grow to include many rock legends,” explains Bachman. “I knew that he could push me past my limit, pull me onto new paths and direct me down new roads.”

Bachman was honored last year for his work with 70s rockers Bachman-Turner Overdrive, who were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the 2014 Juno Awards in their hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Black Crowes singer says band breakup is complicated

Singer Chris Robinson says the breakup of The Black Crowes is “complicated.”

Brother and guitarist Rich Robinson broke the news on January 15, saying "It is with great disappointment and regret that after having the privilege of writing and performing the music of The Black Crowes over the last 24 years, I find myself in the position of saying that the band has broken up.”

The guitarist also revealed details regarding some controversy within the group that fueled his decision not to return.

“I love my brother and respect his talent,” he noted, “but his present demand that I must give up my equal share of the band and that our drummer for 28 years and original partner, Steve Gorman, relinquish 100% of his share, reducing him to a salaried employee, is not something I could agree to."

Now, Chris responds to the official statement, telling Billboard "it's way more complicated than Rich's public outburst" while declining to elaborate.

"I'm going to keep my personal, private family business personal and private," he says, "and I'll focus on all the other things that are important. The ideas, I think, are more important than the drama.”

“I have too much stuff going on that's progressive and positive to dig through sordid family history and stuff. I don't think that's interesting at all -- maybe in a tabloid kind of culture we live in, but I've never been part of that. I've never dealt with my personal, private life in a public forum, so I'm not going to drag myself though the mire now.”

Chris looks back at his time with the band, saying “The Black Crowes is so much time and it's so complicated, and then you mix family and whatever that is into it. To me it's just sad and it's disappointing and it's unfortunate that on the 25th anniversary, whether the band is working or not, that it's not about the songs and the good times people had at those concerts."

The singer released the latest Chris Robinson Brotherhood album, “Phosphorescent Harvest”, last April, while Rich put out his third solo project, “The Ceaseless Light”, in May.

Gorman returned to American supergroup Trigger Happy to release their debut last year; the lineup includes singer Joan Osbourne, session guitarist Tom Bukovac, bassist Nick Govrick and singer/songwriter and Black Crowes guitarist Jackie Greene.

AUDIO: Stone Temple Pilots share demos from 2013 High Rise EP

Stone Temple Pilots guitarist Dean DeLeo is sharing demos from the band’s 2013 EP “High Rise.”

The project delivered the debut of singer Chester Bennington from Linkin Park, who joined the band after original frontman Scott Weiland was fired in February of 2013, leading to a series of public statements and lawsuits by both parties.

DeLeo has posted material from demos for three tracks on the EP, including “Out Of Time”, “Cry Cry” and “Same On The Inside”, as well as "The Hotel On The Hill."

“Howdy ya’ll,” says DeLeo. “I thought I'd start these new ‘memo:demos’ to share some audio clips that are recorded on my phone which include anything from alternate solos, songs from the point in time of their conception and some new ditties. Have fun and stay tuned for more.”

“High Rise” debuted at No. 24 on the US Billboard 200 chart following first week sales of 12,000 copies.

Stone Temple Pilots are currently in the studio working on their debut album with Bennington, who recently suffered a leg injury that cancelled Linkin Park’s North American tour and resulted in surgery.

Iron Maiden guitarist to launch signature guitar line

Iron Maiden guitarist Dave Murray has teamed with Fender to launch his own signature guitar line as part of the company’s Artist Series.

The Dave Murray California Series Stratocaster is inspired by Murray's longtime onstage go-to guitar, combining Strat tradition with three Seymour Duncan humbucking pickups, the fast feel of a compound-radius fingerboard, and the high performance reliability of a Floyd Rose bridge and nut.

The new guitar line will be available starting February 17.

For more details, visit Fender guitars.

Murray and Iron Maiden have been off the road since they wrapped up their Maiden England world tour last summer.

The trek saw the band play 100 shows to more than 2 million fans in 32 countries over the course of the 2-year run, which began in June 2012 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Eddie Van Halen speech at Smithsonian event to be streamed live

Eddie Van Halen’s speech at an event to help launch “What It Means To Be American” – a new three-year initiative by The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in Washington – will be streamed live on February 12.

The project is aimed at engaging leading thinkers, public figures and Americans from all walks of life to explore how the United States became the nation it is today.

One of the campaign’s goals is to foster a national conversation through a series of free public events across the U.S.

On February 12, the Dutch immigrant and naturalized U.S. citizen will discuss his American journey, his role in creating one of the biggest American rock bands of all time, how he has reinvented the way the guitar is played and designed, and he will answer the question, "Is rock 'n' roll about reinvention?"

Entertainment journalist Denise Quan will moderate the sold-out event.

For the event, Van Halen and Fender will donate a master-built replica of Van Halen's infamous white-with-black-stripe Stratocaster.

This is the guitar that changed the guitar world in 1978 when Van Halen cross-pollinated Gibson electronics with Fender body and neck designs. To represent the path of progressions in his instrument designs, a Stealth finished EVH Brand Wolfgang will also be included to represent his modern-day guitar.

In addition to the guitars, Van Halen and Fender Musical Instruments Corp. will also donate an EVH Brand 5150-III amplifier and speaker cabinet to embody the journey and progression of his amplifier designs from the early '70s through the modern day.

Van Halen’s speech at the National Museum of American History in Washington will be streamed live on February 12 starting at 6:30 PM ET at whatitmeanstobeamerican.org

Peart teamed with DW Drum Designer John Good to create a one-of-a kind R40 kit crafted from Romanian River Oak and a plethora of intricate laser-cut exotic woods.

Sammy Hagar to launch radio countdown show

Sammy Hagar will launch a new radio program, “Sammy Hagar's Top Rock Countdown”, this spring via Envisage Radio Group.

The weekly show will see Hagar count down lists of his favorite party songs, comeback albums, unsung heroes or best tunes from a specific year or decade.

“After more than 40 years in Rock & Roll,” says Hagar, “I’ve got a lot of knowledge, a lot of love, and always a lot to say so this is going to be a blast.”

Last fall, Hagar released his latest album, “Lite Roast”; the project teams Hagar with Waboritas guitarist Vic Johnson to deliver stripped-down versions of tunes from his career.

“Lite Roast” was inspired by the rehearsals for Sammy’s appearance at the Acoustic-4-A-Cure benefit show in May, which raised funds for the Pediatric Cancer Program at the University Of California, San Francisco UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital.

Linkin Park singer reveals post-leg surgery photos

Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington is sharing photos following surgery on his leg, an injury that forced the cancellation of the remaining North American dates on The Hunting Party winter tour.

“Headed into surgery in an hour. Ass kicking will commence in 6 weeks,” tweeted the singer on Jan 20, followed by a first post-op image of his foot in a cast. “I will now set off metal detectors everywhere.”

On January 23, Bennington posted a photo while getting some fresh air outside in a wheelchair. “First ray of sunshine since the surgery. Thank you to everyone for all your support and well wishes.”

On Monday, the rocker posted “Looking at my ankle for the first time since the surgery. IT LOOKS INSANE!!!!” and tweeted two pictures of the scars from the leg surgery.

“Lookin good,” he wrote, adding, “Thanks for stopping at the tattoo Doc.”

Linkin Park performed the first three dates of the winter run with guests Rise Against and Of Mice & Men before shutting things down.

“The Hunting Party” – the band’s sixth album – debuted at No. 3 on the US Billboard 200 last June with opening week sales of 110,000 copies.

Former Megadeth duo add bassist to new band

Former Megadeth duo Chris Broderick and Shawn Drover have confirmed the addition of Shadows Fall bassist Matt Bachand to the lineup for their new band, which also includes former Scar The Martyr singer Henry Derek Bonner.

Both Broderick and Drover issued separate statements in late November – just hours apart – that they were leaving Megadeth to pursue their own musical interests.

"I have known Matt for 15 years now and he is a great musician, songwriter, singer and all around great person,” says Drover. “To say I'm jacked up about having Matt with us is an understatement!”

The band have been writing material for their debut album.

"All the songs have shaped up nicely and there is a lot of metal dynamics on these songs, overall,” explains the drummer. “Some of them are flat-out thrash-speed metal, others are uptempo, but I can assure you it is all 100% HEAVY METAL. Those who know me know I have always been an advocate for the more aggressive metal stuff, so if you're expecting anything to the contrary on this record, you would be dead wrong.”

The group will begin recording its debut album this weekend in Hartford, CT.

“Matt Bachand will be in the studio with me, as he lives not too far from the studio, as does the producer/engineer who will be recording drum tracks with me,” Drover adds. “As I write this I cannot reveal WHO he is yet, nor the record company we are signing with, etc. That's for the press release, which you will all see very soon. Believe me, this dude is a full on METAL PRODUCER/ENGINEER (I would never have anybody but that to do this kind of music)."

As for Megadeth, bassist David Ellefson recently confirmed the band are moving forward with plans to hit the studio this year to record and release the follow-up to 2013’s “Super Collider”, with as-yet-to-be-announced new members in place of Broderick and Drover.

AUDIO: AC/DC classic updated as NFL’s Deflategate continues

AC/DC’s 1976 classic, “Big Balls”, has been updated as the quarterback Tom Brady, the New England Patriots and the NFL continue to deal with Deflategate heading into Super Bowl week.

Seattle’s Sports Radio KJR has posted “Tom’s Big Balls” as both a parody and commentary on the controversy, which revolves around the Patriots’ use of deflated footballs in the first half of the team’s AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts on January 18.

The footballs were replaced by NFL officials at halftime of that game after the Colts brought it to their attention; the Patriots went on to win 45-7.

The NFL is continuing to investigate the matter while the Patriots deny their involvement in the incident; the team was caught cheating in 2007 when they videotaped opponent’s defensive coaches signals in violation of league rules – an event later known as Spygate.

The Patriots will play the NFC Champion – and defending Super Bowl Champions - Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl 49 in Glendale, Arizona on February 1.

“Big Balls” first appeared on AC/DC’s 1976 album, “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.” The record was originally issued in Australia before seeing an international release three months later…and 5 years later in the U.S.

On February 8, AC/DC will perform at the 57th annual Grammy Awards as they promote their latest album, “Rock Or Bust”; the event marks their return to US TV for the first time in over 14 years.

The 57th Annual Grammy Awards will air on CBS from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 8 from 8 – 11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

Def Leppard guitarist shares cancer update

Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell is sharing an update on his ongoing battle with cancer.

Campbell was diagnosed last year with Hodgkin's Lymphoma; he immediately began chemotherapy and other treatments.

“Well, I seem to be in a good spot at the moment,” he tells Eddie Trunk. “You can never be too certain with these things, 'cause they can come creeping back. But after three rounds of chemo over the last two years, I did a stem-cell transplant in October. And the first PET scan that I did on New Year's Eve came back really, really good — there's no sign of the tumors — so I'm hopeful that we're on the right path. I mean, that's certainly the way I've been thinking.”

“I'm not letting it concern me at all. But continuing for the next few years, I'll be doing more scans and follow-ups and stuff, just to make sure, but I'm certainly feeling healthy, you know?!"

The guitarist – who got married this past summer – explains how his treatment has unfolded since the cancer returned after he revealed things were in remission in November 2013.

"For anyone who knew anything about cancer, they'd probably say, 'Well, that's not unusual,'" says Campbell. “But I didn't. I got my diagnosis in the spring of 2013 when we were doing the Las Vegas residency with Def Leppard. And as soon as we were done with that, I started six months of chemo.”

“And I just kind of naturally assumed you do the chemo, you do a scan at the end of the chemo and it shows that you're good, and that's it. But apparently not. It was, like, ninety-something percent gone, and it was what they couldn't see on the scan that came creeping back. And it came back so fast.”

“That's why the doctors advised me to do the stem-cell transplant — to try and kill it at the microbiological level,” he continues. “So it's pretty much rocket-science stuff; I mean, it's amazing technology. I personally feel pretty good about this right now. I feel that it's gone. But, like I said, you never really know, and you've gotta keep your eye on it. If it's gonna come back, it's gonna come back in the next couple of years. But hopefully not, you know?!"

Def Leppard are currently in the studio working on a new album; the band return to the road for a spring Canadian tour and an early summer run through Europe.

Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson comments on breakup

Singer Chris Robinson has offered his first comments on the breakup of The Black Crowes.

"It came from songwriting,” he tells the Broward/Palm Beach New Times. “The Black Crowes don't write songs anymore. They don't think of the present or the future. I like making albums and playing concerts. I was sitting on two EPs' worth of written songs."

Growing impatient, the singer revived the Chris Robinson Brotherhood – originally launched during the Crowe’s 2010 hiatus – and released its third album, “Phosphorescent Harvest”, last year.

"The Black Crowes were a rebellion,” explains the singer. “This is a pragmatic reaction to how I feel. The only revolutionary thing we're doing is staying out of the music business. There's Olive Gardens and Red Lobsters in music. We just don't eat there. We're grassroots."

Chris’ comments follow a statement issued by brother/guitarist Rich on January 15 announcing the end of the Crowes.

"It is with great disappointment and regret that after having the privilege of writing and performing the music of The Black Crowes over the last 24 years, I find myself in the position of saying that the band has broken up,” said Rich. "I hold my time with the Black Crowes with the utmost respect and sincerest appreciation. It is a huge swath of my life's body of work."

"I couldn't be more proud of what we accomplished and deeply moved by the relationships people created and maintained with my music. That alone is the greatest honor of being a musician.”

The guitarist also revealed details regarding controversy within the group that fueled his decision not to return.
