Foreigner guitarist recovering from heart surgery
Foreigner guitarist Mick Jones is reportedly recovering well following heart surgery in Miami.
The New York Post reports Jones underwent aortoiliac bypass surgery in Miami and sources tell the paper that the rocker is “already up and walking around” after undergoing the operation at Mount Sinai Hospital this week.
Mick's procedure involved using a shunt to unite the aorta and iliac artery to relieve obstruction.
A source tells the Post that Jones “is doing great and can’t wait to get back onstage.”
Foreigner return to the road for US dates starting March 1.

David Lee Roth: I am Eddie Van Halen’s biggest fan
The 2012 Van Halen tour is only a few shows in and the fan reviews continue to be strong.
VH have been dropping some rarely-played gems in the setlists and mixing things up a little as they settle into the start of the trip.
This week, VH play two nights at Madison Square Garden, and the New York Post caught up with David Lee Roth for an update on the band’s tour in support of “A Different Kind Of Truth.”
“We’re doing a lot of tunes that don’t usually get out of the deck and Edward is more lucid now than any time in my memory,” explains Roth. “I’m his biggest fan. I still remember the first time I saw him playing in a backyard party in Pasadena in high school. He was great then and he’s great now. We’ve come full circle.”
Asked what sets VH apart from other bands, Dave says “We throw a sick party, and if you get invited, you gotta go. For starters, on this tour Kool and the Gang are opening our shows, and that’s full circle for us because we used to play ‘Hollywood Swinging’ in five-sets-a-night-beer-bars. And the first three songs on our new record are thunder-funk. What we’re giving is the best of the old and the new — think of it like watching ‘Dragnet’ on your iPad.”
Roth was asked how the pop world changed since VH started in the 70s.
“These days, I see too much cheerleading and not enough stagecraft, and what I’m seeing isn’t worth cheering for,” replies Roth. “The questions I want to ask most of my colleagues are: Can you even do the whole song from beginning to end? Can you do it onstage like you did it in the studio? Do you float like a butterfly or sting like a pre-recorded bee?”

Slash has had a long association with the Los Angeles Zoo, and he’s now filmed a new commercial for it with Betty White.
The new ad is to promote the March 8 launch of the zoo’s new attraction, called The Lair, which will feature “60 species of weird, rare and endangered amphibians, invertebrates and reptiles."
Renowned animal lover White has long helped raise funds and awareness for the zoo, while also serving as a C-Chair on the board of trustees for the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (GLAZA).
Last year, Slash was honored by GLAZA as he was presented with the inaugural Tom F. Mankiewicz Leadership Award, which recognizes his longtime contributions to establishing environmental welfare programs.

VIDEO: Guns N’ Roses Axl Rose apologizes to Philadelphia for 2002 incident
Here’s something you don’t see every day: an apology from Axl Rose.
During Monday night's Guns N’ Roses show at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia, Axl took a few moments to explain why he failed to show up for a GNR gig in the city in December of 2002, resulting in a riot which sent five people to the hospital.
“I already got sued for about, everything I own by f**kin' corporate radio and s**t,” begain Axl. “Now we're back on tour…I have to shut up. I did cancel the first show, at about six in the morning. My manager told me he canceled it and then didn't. And then Clear Channel wanted us to f**k up, because they wanted to end the tour. 'Cause they had some s**t going on in Florida or something… I don't know… a whole bunch of bulls**t. But I got really sick; it had nothing to do with fur coats and basketball games, you know. I love Philly. I came to visit here a few times and I really liked it. So I said, 'OK we're gonna risk it, what if we can throw in a show in Philly?' So it's good to be here with you people. I want to apologize for my part of that. You know, so… I'm not saying I'm innocent.”
According to Philadelphia news stations, the 2002 incident included an opening act at the First Union Center that performed for two hours before the show was called off, reportedly “due to health issues.”
The 2002 Chinese Democracy Tour was the band’s first major trip since 1993, was eventually shut down just five days following the Philly incident. 35 dates had originally been scheduled, but the band ended up performing at only 16.
This week’s gig was part of GNR’s current “Up Close And Personal Tour” of the States, which sees the band playing intimate theatre shows as opposed to their regular arena dates.

More cool video of Slash in the studio has been made available.
The new clip is the fifth in a series that shows behind the scenes action while Slash works on putting together his second solo album, “Apocalyptic Love.”
The footage shows Slash and the band rocking through the project’s first single, “You’re A Lie,” which premiered Monday on rock radio worldwide.
“Rock and roll for me was always about a certain artistic freedom, freedom of expression and a certain attitude that goes with that,” says Slash.
“You know, I’ve always been a rock guy doing his own thing,” he continues, “whether rock is in or out. It’s always been a contrast in some way shape or form to what everybody else is doing.
“Apocalyptic Love” is due May 22.

VIDEO: Steven Tyler interviewed on Jimmy Kimmel
Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel’s show Monday night.
Tyler was on hand to talk about his experience at Elton John’s Oscar’s viewing party, plug his American Idol gig, and the upcoming Aerosmith record.
“February, March, April, May is Idol,” began Tyler, “June 15th to 18th we hit the road.”
As for keeping up his band duties in relation to Idol, Steven says it's a non-issue, “they [the band] were bummed that I didn’t tell them [he was doing the show] first.” As for getting past that, he says “I think so; it brought up Aerosmith’s sales 270%. I mean, Idol’s the biggest show on TV.”
“Everyone’s getting along,” adds the singer about the band. “No secret: I had a lot of foot operations, I was back on drugs, again. We did a tour with ZZ Top – I fell off the stage because of that, and the guys were angry with me, and rightfully so. But I’m back and I’m on fire.”

Steven Tyler says Aerosmith are ‘back’ on new album
Rolling Stone caught up with Steven Tyler at Elton John’s Academy Awards viewing party on Sunday to check in for an Aerosmith update.
"We've been in the studio for the last month," says Tyler.
Aerosmith are recording their first new album of originals in more than a decade with producer Jack Douglas, who worked with them on some of their most vital 1970s releases.
"We’re gonna have a vintage sound, 'cause we’re going to tape and a lot of good things like that," said Steven. "We’re keeping tracks lean, not a lot of overdubs, and like I said, we’re using Jack to his fullest. So you’re gonna hear some stuff where you might think Aerosmith’s back."
According to Tyler, the sessions so far feel like back in the day. "I’m having such a good time writing again," he said. "You got the songs right now where they're like shells, with no lyrics and no melody, and I get to fill in the blanks like I did with 'Back in the Saddle' when it was just a track."
As for the tour…
"June 18th it starts," said Tyler. "So spread the word."
In the meantime, Tyler will be front and center in your living room as a judge on American Idol; Season 11 should wrap up by the end of May.

VIDEO: Slash interviewed on Sydney’s Triple M
Slash is currently spending some time in Australia.
On Sunday, the guitarist joined his touring singer, Myles Kennedy, and his band Alter Bridge, at the Soundwave Festival in Sydney.
Slash was on hand Monday morning at Triple M radio in Sydney to launch his new single, “You’re A Lie”; it’s the first song from his sophomore album, “Apocalyptic Love,” due May 22.
The Triple M crew asked Slash to run down a typical morning when he’s at home in Los Angeles.
“We have alternating days when we take the kids to school,” explains Slash, “and we have a car pool…so I do car pool – if I can get away with it – only once a week. The school doesn’t want to see me down there. I’ve carried a grudge against school since I was a kid and they can feel it.”

AUDIO: Slash – You’re A Lie

The new Slash single, “You’re A Lie,” debuted at radio on Monday.
It’s the first track from the guitar icon’s sophomore solo effort, “Apocalyptic Love,” due May 22.
“Totally positive buzz about the song, cheers for the support,” posted Slash on Monday. “Looking forward to getting the whole record out & hitting the road!”
Slash is currently in Australia, where he joined singer Myles Kennedy and his band Alter Bridge on Sunday at the Soundwave Festival in Sydney.
“Just because I'm in Oz doesn't mean we're not busy mixing [the new album]," Slash wrote on Twitter. "We're 9 songs in. Modern technology."
Slash previews the new music for fans when he kicks off a brief US tour in May.

Gary Moore: Night of heavy drinking before he died
Test results have been released that confirm former Thin Lizzy guitarist Gary Moore died last February from a heart attack following a night of heavy drinking.
The Telegraph reports Moore drank enough alcohol to put himself nearly five times over the drink-drive limit.
The musician suffered a heart attack brought on by the massive amount of booze he knocked back at the start of a sunshine holiday, the studies showed.
Moore had 380mg of alcohol per decilitre of blood in his system, more than 30mg the amount associated with fatalities, and just short of the 416mg Amy Winehouse had in her body when she died surrounded by three empty vodka bottles.
The legal limit for driving in the UK is 80mg of alcohol per decilitre of blood.
In most European countries, including Spain - where drink-drink limits are lower - Moore would have been nearly eight times over the permitted amount to drive.
The tests also revealed the guitarist, found dead in bed at a luxury Costa del Sol hotel last February, had abused alcohol for years.
No traces of any illegal drugs were found in his body.
Moore died at the Kempinski Resort Hotel in Estepona hours after starting a six-day holiday with his girlfriend.
