Linkin Park singer talks about joining Stone Temple Pilots

Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington recently teamed up with Stone Temple Pilots, following the band’s firing of former frontman Scott Weiland.

The new STP lineup have released a new single, “Out Of Time,” with Bennington and are offering it to fans as a free download (here).

The Linkin Park frontman debuted live with STP lineup as part a surprise appearance recently at an annual in Los Angeles radio station concert event, and they performed again Thursday night at the annual MAP/MusicCares Fund Benefit Concert in L.A., where Bennington was presented the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his dedication to the charity and helping other addicts with recovery.

Bennington tells Rolling Stone that this is not just a musical fling.

"When you get together and put a new piece in, there's a whole different energy. For us the creative juices have just been flowing – we've been writing, we have tons of great ideas," explained Bennington. "Next week we're going back in the studio and hammering out some more music."

But that does not mean there will be an album anytime soon, or any sort of fixed schedule: With Bennington still heavily involved in Linkin Park, he and STP will disseminate new music the way they did with their first track together, "Out of Time."

"We don't have a label," he said. "Everything we're doing is on our own, so we're just taking it one track at a time. We would love to sit down and hammer out a record, but the reality is we're gonna make music, we're gonna make a lot of it, and we're gonna be in a position to release a single at a time, go out and really give people music the way they want to get it," he said. "It is a good position to be in, and for us, all we care about is going out, making the legacy as great as it needs to be, as great as people expect it to be, and coming out with new music that lives up to that standard."

VIDEO: Deep Purple interviewed by Italy’s Virgin Radio

Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan and drummer Ian Paice were interviewed recently by Italy’s Virgin Radio about their new album, “NOW What?!”, and video of the session has surfaced.

Produced by Bob Ezrin, the project is the group’s 19th studio album and first since 2005’s “Rapture Of The Deep.”

To support their new single, “Vincent Price,” Deep Purple recently filmed a video for the song about the horror film legend, the band’s first clip in more than 20 years.

The track will be released June 7 as download, CD single and seven-inch transparent vinyl.

The single will include the song "First Sign Of Madness", which was recorded during the sessions for the current album but not included in the final tracklist.

More details about the single can be found here.

The band is hitting the European festival circuit this summer, starting with the Kavarna Rock Festival in Bulgaria on June 1. For a list of tour dates, click here.

Aerosmith headlined the Boston Strong benefit concert Thursday night at the city’s TD Garden.

The band played a mini-set full of hits, including “Train Kept ‘A Rollin,” “”Sweet Emotion,” “Dream On” and “Walk This Way.”

Aerosmith brought all of the evening’s performers on stage for the two-song finale, which featured the Beatles’ “Come Together” and the regional favorite, “Dirty Water.”

"Boston Strong: An Evening Of Support And Celebration" featured a list of Boston area musicians, comedians and sports figures, with appearances by The J. Geils Band, Boston, James Taylor, Jason Aldean, Dropkick Murphys and more.

Net ticket proceeds from the historic concert will benefit The One Fund Boston, set up by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino to help the people most affected by the tragic events that occurred in Boston on April 15.

Boston Strong was streamed live; hennemusic carried the feed, which is available for repeat viewing here.

The shows will include two sets: “Electric” in one, with a second featuring tracks from the band’s catalog.

"The Cult's life blood has always been playing live, we are between albums and decided to continue the momentum created by Choice Of Weapon, stay in people's hearts and minds,” explains singer Ian Astbury. “As Love Live was such an incredible experience we have decided that performing the Electric album, an event that has been demanded by our fans and followers as the perfect live set to play in 2013."

The Electric 13 tour will open July 25 in San Diego.

The band’s third album, “Electric” marked a significant style change in The Cult’s sound, moving away from the Goth-influence of its earlier releases while heading straight into hard rock territory. The project featured songs like “Love Removal Machine,” “Wild Flower” and “Lil’ Devil.”

Stone Temple Pilots speak out on Scott Weiland lawsuit

Stone Temple Pilots have released a statement to fans regarding news of their lawsuit against their former singer, Scott Weiland.

The band fired Weiland in February and, ever since, both sides have done media interviews explaining their side of the story.

STP then moved forward with Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington; the group performed as part a surprise appearance recently at an annual in Los Angeles radio station concert event.

The band also released a new single, “Out Of Time,” with Bennington and are offering it to fans as a free download (here).

Here’s the latest in a statement by STP:

You may have read we recently filed suit against our former singer, Scott Weiland. We wanted to clarify a few things:

Our purpose in taking this action is not to hurt Scott. We want to move forward productively, and Scott’s choices and actions have prevented us from doing that. We were in the process of putting our 20th anniversary tour together to celebrate the release of our first album, Core. The plan was for a big tour where we’d perform the album in its entirety, along with some other favorite STP songs. So, you might imagine our shock and disappointment when, without any notice, we learned that Scott had seized this tour for himself as his solo tour, and decided to do exactly what we as a group had planned. We found out about it the same way you did—we saw an ad for it.

Without getting into legal details, the band has a binding agreement that clearly states what each of us can and cannot do outside of STP. Unfortunately many of the decisions Scott made violate this agreement, have been harmful to the band, and prevented us from moving forward. When our requests to Scott and his representatives that they abide by the agreement were ignored, we finally had enough. So now, we’ve made our choice. It was beyond time we made some new music, which was impossible in the dysfunctional environment we were in. We’ve lived in it long enough and have decided to move forward with STP. We wish Scott well. We’re really excited about the new music we’ve been making with Chester, including the song we just released, “Out of Time.”

We love this band and respect everything it means to you. We want to always give you our best and the choice we made is completely in that spirit.

Dean, Eric & Robert
