Metallica are now offering fans audio of the 4th and final night of their recent 30th Anniversary shows at the Fillmore in San Francisco.

The week-long celebration was offered up to fan club members for $6 per show, or $19.81 for the all four (!!).

For the December 10 show, the band were joined by former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, producer Bob Rock, Lloyd Grant, Ron McGovney, Hugh Tanner and Black Sabbath legends Ozzy Osbourne and Geezer Butler.

Metallica rocked a 20-song set that included material from various points in their career, including a heavy dose of tracks from their 1983 debut, “Kill “Em All,” and the band offered up the fourth previously-unreleased "Death Magnetic" track, “Rebel Of Babylon.”

The full 21-song set from Night 4 can be downloaded at LiveMetallica.com, and is available in MP3 for $9.95, FLAC/ALAC for $12.95, or individual tracks for $0.99 each.

VIDEO: Van Halen remember the club days

Van Halen have released a new video.

In the footage, the band is heard talking about their club days, back in the 70s, when they were playing the Southern California bar cicuit.

VH regularly played L.A. clubs like Gazzarri’s, and The Whisky A Go Go and The Starwood.

“The ideal, like in a movie,” begins David Lee Roth, “is that you’re always thinking about the arena stage, and that’s the only thing that’s on your mind as you’re working as a musician. That greater idea is always there, looming consciously. Where I don’t think it was that for us, at least it wasn’t for me. It went in very short stages, like one day, I’m gonna be the King of Gazzarri’s, one day we’ll be the top guys at The Starwood.”

VH’s new album will be released February 7.

Aerosmith: Joe Perry talks new album, tour during live Twitter chat

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry hosted his first Twitter chat Thursday night, taking questions from fans around the globe.

As expected, there were lots of questions about the new album and upcoming tour, Steven Tyler, guitar gear and favourite places to play, and eat at, on the road.

Aerosmith have been working with producer Jack Douglas on their first album of original material in a decade; the band have been talking about the project being released this Spring.

Perry was asked which vintage Aerosmith album does the new recording remind him of, to which he replied, “people have said when we play the rough tracks it sounds like it's from the 70s but for me, it's too early to tell.”

As for hitting the road to support the new disc, “we are planning on touring this summer in the US and Canada,” writes Joe, and “we plan on coming back to South America in 2013, but we have to plan around my lead singers day job.”

And speaking of Steven Tyler, Perry was asked how things were with the band’s frontman. “Things are good, we had great moments on stage and off. The band is really looking fwd to the tour this summer.”

What did Joe first think when Steven fell down and broke some teeth in Paraguay? “Oh f**k, he's done it again!,” replied Perry. “The poor bastard. He's accident prone and got such a good heart for his fans and I felt bad 4him.”

A few other cool tidbits:

On new solo music...

Perry:
“We are talking about a compilation Joe Perry Project record in the future with some new songs on it.”

On releasing his own book...

Perry:
“Yes I'm working on a book now.”

On the best band he’s ever seen live...

Perry:
“I'd say that Cheap Trick is the most consistently great band and I've seen them dozens of times.”

Check out all the Q&A on Joe’s Twitter feed here.

Aerosmith: Steven Tyler’s engagement confirmed by jeweler

While fans await official word from Steven Tyler, his jeweler tells People magazine that the rocker is engaged to longtime girlfriend Erin Brady.

According to jeweler Loree Rodkin, the proposal was a surprise.

“He [Tyler] was working, so I picked stones, built settings, showed him choices and sent him pictures on his phone,” she tells People. “He asked for guidance but the choice was his. Having made jewelry for both Erin and Steven made it an effortless process, as I know their taste.”

Word spread when the couple were photographed in Maui on Christmas Day, with Erin sporting a new diamond ring on her finger.

Brady’s ring is a 5-carat, brilliant-cut diamond, which sits on a micro pave diamond-and-platinum band.

A spokesperson for Rodkin tells People the ring is totally unique. “It’s one of a kind, like all of her pieces. Steven has been a client of Loree’s for many years, and often wears rings by her, as well as other jewelry.”

The two have been dating since 2006. It will be Tyler’s third time down the aisle: he was married twice before, to Cyrinda Foxe in 1978, and clothing designer Teresa Barrick in 1988.

Check out more details and a photo at People here.

Van Halen rehearsal update

Van Halen have been hard at work gearing up for their forthcoming world tour in support of their new album, due February 7.

VH will announce the first wave of shows on January 3, with tickets going on sale on January 10.

The Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood have updated their website with some VH news:

“For the past 2 months VAN HALEN has been rehearsing here 2-3 times a week!!!!!!

Do you have any idea how hard that was to not tell you?? When you come in at 10:00AM and David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, and Wolfgang Van Halen are on stage with 3 other people in the room playing “Running With The Devil” and you can’t say anything?! It’s tough, to put it simply.

It all began with a 3 day video shoot for their newest single that you don’t know about yet (shhh) and we were all geeking out like never before. Little did we know, the guys had fallen in love with the room and decided to rehearse for their upcoming unannounced tour for the next 2 months!

We couldn’t film it for obvious reasons, so we’ve decided to share some of our favorite VH moments that happened for the next 2 months.

“My favorite Van Halen moment was when I came out of the kitchen and they were doing Panama. I was one of the only people standing in the room by the stage. David Lee Roth looked at me, smiled, and waved. I thought to myself “that is the only time in life I will know David Lee Roth was actually singing to me.” – @LizzyDStadler

“It was so nice being at my desk listening to “Jump” & “Panama”, the songs I grew up with by the actual Van Halen. I mean, really – it’s the actually f**king Van Halen!” – Tina

“Watching David Lee Roth film the opening part of this video was one of the most awesome things. He was standing there smiling with a gigantic grin on his face for at least 5 minutes and HeKo & I were standing off to the side trying not to laugh (or get in the shot), but it was incredible. The week they finally brought in the synthesizers and played the opening to “Jump” over & over made it really difficult to not jump out of my seat accordingly with the song. JUMP!” – @toneyeah

“What was my favorite part about it? Everything. I know it sounds stupid, but I can’t put it any other way. To walk through the club and have Eddie Van Halen smile at me or pat me on the back, the guys were so nice, it was unbelievable. In my 9 years at the club, this is by far one of the best things that’s happened.” – Scotty

“The positive energy VH brought to the daytime was fantastic. During the day, it’s always so quiet and work, work, work and even when a band does rehearse, it’s always so serious. Van Halen was having fun the entire time and we could feel it throughout the building.” @Heko310

“I just loved the first time they played “Running With The Devil” it sounded exactly like it did when I was working box office at The Whisky.” – Kathy

Russian billionaire hires Red Hot Chili Peppers for New Year’s Eve party

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has hired the Red Hot Chili Peppers to play his New Year’s Eve party.

The Telegraph reports Abramovich plans to eclipse his previous New Year's Eve celebrations by spending more than £5 million on his 300 guests.

The Peppers will play at the exclusive event, held at the Chelsea football club owner's £58 million estate on the Caribbean island of St Barts.

The estate near Gouverneur beach was previously owned by US banking tycoons the Rockefellers and has a number of swimming pools, pavilions and beach bungalows.

Guests have been told to wear "island chic" at the event, which will run from 10pm until 4am, with partygoers retiring to a fleet of super-yachts in the marina at the end of the evening.

No word on how much the Peppers are taking home for their efforts.

The band will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland on April 14, 2012, alongside Guns N’ Roses, The Beastie Boys, The Small Faces/The Faces, Donovan and Laura Nyro.

VIDEO: Tesla guitarist sings anthem at NBA game

Tesla guitarist Frank Hannon handled the anthem duties on Monday at the Sacramento Kings vs Los Angeles Lakers basketball game.

The event was held at Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento, California, the band’s hometown.

It was Tesla Day earlier this month in Sacramento, as the band received the key to the city from Mayor Kevin Johnson, who praised the band for raising the city’s profile worldwide.

The presentation was held at the Sacramento Rock And Roll Museum, the site of the Oasis Ballroom, where the band first got its start.

"Being from Sacramento has really been good for us,” said Hannon, “because we've been able to keep it real and not get caught up in glam and the competition down in Hollywood and all that. We're proud to be from Sacramento; it's a hometown, heartfelt thing."

Tesla recently launched a 20th-anniversary tour of their legendary "Five Man Acoustical Jam" in support of their new album, "Twisted Wires And The Acoustic Sessions."

Peter Frampton sues label over digital royalties

Peter Frampton is suing his record label over unpaid digital music royalties.

The Tennessean reports Frampton has filed suit against Universal Music Group for a half-million dollars in unpaid digital music royalties and for unspecified damages, making him the latest artist to take a label to court on such claims.

Rapper Eminem’s producers prevailed on similar claims earlier this year.

Frampton filed suit Friday afternoon in a Los Angeles federal court.

On Thursday, an heir to the drummer for The Knack, a rock band best known for the 1979 hit “My Sharona,” filed suit claiming Capitol Records similarly withheld digital music royalties.

Each of the suits was brought by Nashville attorney Richard Busch, a partner with King & Ballow.

Busch represents Eminem’s producers, Frampton, and Felice Catena, the sister and heir to The Knack drummer Bruce Gary, who died in 2006.

“The issues in these cases go beyond simply breach of contract,” Busch said. “The plaintiffs allege the wrongdoing here is a part of deliberate effort to deprive the parties of their royalties.”

The disputes all center on the question of how revenue should be shared between artists and record labels in sales of digital music — basically, songs downloaded on services such as iTunes or Amazon or ring tones sold through phone providers.

Record labels have argued that online sales should be treated the same as physical album sales, with the company getting a lion’s share of the royalties for such transactions, typically between 80 percent and 90 percent.

Artists have argued that because the sale of music online involves none of the expenses that record labels typically incur for selling an album — such as packaging and shipping — they’re entitled to the same larger royalty checks that artists typically get for music licensed to movies or TV shows. That is most often a 50/50 royalty split.

Read more at The Tennessean here.

Metallica frontman throws rocks at paparazzi in Uruguay

Metallica’s James Hetfield let loose on some paparazzi over the Christmas holidays.

Starfeine reports Hetfield and his family were vacationing in Punta del Este, Uruguay for Christmas when the rocker got annoyed and confronted a few photographers.

James and his son Castor were taking a moped ride in the countryside and were being followed by paparazzi, so he took it upon himself to try and stop them.

Hetfield reportedly confronted a few, and even threw some rocks at some out of frustration.

See the photos here.

Metallica recently wrapped up their 30th Anniversary with a series of fan club-only shows at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco.

Van Halen: single, video & album release dates revealed

Earlier this week, Van Halen announced a 2012 tour, with few real details other than an on sale date for the first series of shows.

The legendary rockers also shared an image with a February 7, 2012 date, but it was unknown if it was the album cover and release date, or something else.

Read more on the first set of official VH news here.

Now, the Van Halen News Desk is reporting on the band’s schedule, and the pieces of the puzzle are being filled in.

As for the new album’s title, it remains under wraps. This week’s official band announcement referenced the subject as “The Future,” but the VHND reports that is not the actual name of the album. No word, yet, on whether or not the February 7 image, which features a train, represents the album’s cover.

More confirmed details are expected to follow in the coming days.

Produced by Ross Hogarth, the new record will be the band’s first with David Lee Roth since 1984 (the year and album).
